Chapter 354 - 162: Red-haired Captain, Long Live
"Apologies, but I only managed to create those Magic spells through a series of fortunate coincidences. I’m still studying them. Once I discover the core principles, I’ll consider sharing them."
He knew, of course, that the key was the amplification from the Death God Origin Rune. However, he also knew one other thing: when different Wizards fused the same Magic Rune with the Death God Origin Rune, the final results would vary.
The difference was that the amplification effect from the Death God Origin Rune was random!
If every amplified spell had achieved its optimal effect, then his Element spells like Lightning Arrow and Fireball Technique wouldn’t have merely gained an additional explosive property.
Wei’en hoped to find a chance to research this later. Ideally, he could discover the reason behind the Death God Origin Rune’s varied amplification effects, or even find the optimal way to fuse different runes.
In that case, he believed his achievements in the field of Magic would reach their zenith, and no one would be his equal!
"I see... I will explain this to the other Wizards in the School." Dean Josue sounded a little disappointed, but he still smiled. "So, about joining the Research Center?"
Wei’en considered the question for a moment. "I need some time to think about it."
He wasn’t particularly interested in joining the Research Center, establishing his own personal institute, or guiding the research projects of other talented Wizards, but he felt it wasn’t right to refuse so directly again.
From Dean Josue’s words, he could clearly tell that this invitation was not a decision from the Feng Enliso Research Center alone; other departments within the Ghost Soul School were also involved.
Moreover, Wei’en was more concerned about the Great Mages and Legendary Mages Dean Josue had mentioned. He didn’t know what kind of impact the attention from these powerful figures would have on him.
That was why he hadn’t outright refused the invitation. He wanted to stall for time, learn more about the Ghost Soul School’s internal affairs through other channels, and then make his decision.
Dean Josue did not continue to persuade him. "The School and the Research Center completely respect your wishes. If you have any further thoughts, you can contact me anytime. My internal number is 981."
"Thank you again for the invitation. I am also grateful for the attention I’ve received from the School." Wei’en performed the School’s formal salute.
Dean Josue nodded. He looked at the young Wizard before him—already famous throughout the Ghost Soul School—and hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Wizard Wei’en, on a personal note, I’d like to offer a suggestion for you to consider."
"Please, go on."
"The essence of a Wizard lies in discovery and innovation. Remember not to be swayed by other influences, especially when dealing with high-level Origin Powers and knowledge from the pre-epoch era. You must be extremely careful."
Hmm?
’High-level Origin Power and pre-epoch knowledge?’
Wei’en frowned. It seemed the dean wasn’t entirely in the dark about the runic structures and composition of those spells, nor did he lack direction for research.
"Thank you for the warning. I will be sure to remember it!"
"I look forward to meeting you at the School in the future. Goodbye, Wizard Wei’en."
"Goodbye, Dean Josue."
The call ended, and the patterns on the communicator slowly faded.
But Wei’en stared at the black, trophy-shaped communicator in silence for a long time. ’The influence of knowledge?’
This was the second time he had heard a warning about pre-epoch knowledge and the influence of Origin Power, following the clown’s sarcastic remarks last night.
’So, is this why the Ghost Soul School established its Research Center?’
’To bypass the pre-epoch knowledge system, innovate within the current era, and form their own system of Magic?’
"Perhaps... joining the Research Center wouldn’t be a bad choice..."
’Still, I should find someone to ask before contacting Dean Josue again. At the very least, I need to get a clear picture of the Research Center and understand what some of the other Wizards are focused on.’
At that thought, Wei’en let out a long breath, dispelling the ideas from his mind.
Following his plan, he arranged the five corpses from the box in his workshop.
Right now, what interested him most were those things at the bottom of the sea that had been collecting killing intent. ’Hidden for so many years without being discovered... their plot must be enormous!’
After the incident with Caster, Wei’en paid more attention to the secrets emerging around him. He was also more willing to actively uncover and engage with them.
He didn’t want a repeat of last time, when he only realized his enemy’s objective after Ales had already made a move against Tina.
To put it more bluntly, Wei’en wanted to eliminate anything that was, or could potentially be, a threat to him and the people around him.
’Well, at the very least, I need to understand their nature beforehand and seize some initiative.’
"Ghost."
With everything prepared, Wei’en signaled Ghost to cast the Undead Transformation Spell.
"Bo’a, Tioji, Syeji!"
In a moment, a huge Array materialized in the workshop. Gray mist rose again, engulfing all the corpses. Accompanied by faint, deep roars, the five corpses swayed and staggered to their feet, flailing.
CRACK... CRACK...
"Huh? Aren’t they supposed to be zombies this time?"
Wei’en heard the familiar sounds, and the serious tone of Dean Josue, with whom he had just ended the call, came to mind. ’So this time... they’re skeletons?’
CLATTER... CLATTER...
Before he could get a clear look, he heard a series of sharp clatters as bones collided within the gray mist. He could vaguely make out the five slender figures instantly collapsing into piles.
[You have failed to transform Undead Creatures using the Undead Transformation (Death God) Spell. Evaluation: I guess my evaluation of you is stuck at ’weakling,’ huh? Special Reward: Survival Points +5, Resilience Level +1, Spirit Level +1.]
’It failed?’
Sure enough, once the gray mist dissipated, the Array vanished completely.
Unlike last time, it didn’t form a Gray Mist Gate to guide the successfully transformed Undead Creatures to the Undead World.
