Chapter 497 - 108: A More Likely Ending
miles high in the sky.
This altitude was far beyond the range of any clouds. The air was so thin it was nearly a vacuum, and as far as the eye could see, there was only the deep, black void.
The Sun, which originated from the Fire Elemental Plane, hung high in the sky. It wasn’t a true star, but rather the astonishing energy, light, and heat released as unobservable matter transformed into observable matter during the interaction between the Fire Elemental Plane and the Material Plane.
Yes, long ago, after Murphy had successfully reached Foundation Establishment, he had tried to fly away from the vast land below.
His speed with Sword Control, while not reaching Earth’s "first cosmic velocity" from his past life, made it theoretically impossible to break free from a continent far larger than Earth.
But that wasn’t the crucial part.
On Earth, a rocket needed to reach the first cosmic velocity to escape gravity, a limitation fundamentally bound by fuel and thrust-to-weight ratio.
For a being like Murphy, however, who could draw upon the void’s Dimensional Energy at will to replenish himself, his power was theoretically infinite. Even at a speed of just one meter per second, as long as he kept ascending, day after day, he should have eventually been able to break free.
However, in this world, he could never fly out.
It wasn’t due to the pull of gravity, nor was it a lack of power.
When he reached a maximum altitude of about two hundred sixty-five miles, a strange phenomenon occurred.
No matter how he urged his Flying Sword forward or how much thrust he applied, he was merely treading air in the same spot.
The void before him was like an invisible wall, or perhaps space itself was infinitely stretching and looping back on itself at this point.
Upward, there was no end; escape, there was no possibility.
Bounded, yet borderless.
That attempt had given Murphy a profound understanding of what a "planar barrier" truly was.
This wasn’t simply the edge of the atmosphere or the boundary of the gravitational field; it was a barrier formed by the very rules that constituted the "world" itself.
The world was a finite "bubble," and as long as he lacked the power to pierce it, he would forever remain trapped inside.
The Sun was outside this bubble. Only its light and heat could seep in, but it too was unreachable.
And beneath the Sun, a vast Grand Array was silently unfurled.
The array patterns were woven from countless fine threads of Mana that flowed with a Dark Gold luster, interlacing within the void.
These threads connected with one another, forming a layered, complex, and profound three-dimensional matrix of Dao Patterns that covered a region several miles wide.
The Grand Array rotated slowly, maintaining a constant distance and angle relative to the Sun.
Wisps of True Sun Flame, so condensed they were almost tangible, were drawn by the Grand Array’s power from the light and heat of the Sun, converging at the array’s core.
And at the core of the Grand Array, a Dark Gold Flying Sword hovered.
The entire sword shimmered with a subdued Dark Gold luster. It was about three inches long, its design archaic yet fluid.
At this moment, it seemed to be alive, its body trembling slightly as it emitted a low, pleasant hum.
Countless filaments of incandescent white light, condensed from the True Sun Flame, descended upon the sword’s body. Like the finest of carving knives, yet also like the gentlest of brushstrokes, they performed their Artifact Refining.
Yes, Artifact Refining.
In Cultivation, the true core of Artifact Refining lies in "Dao Rhyme."
Different types of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi are, in essence, different microstructures of unobservable matter, and they contain different attributes known as "Dao Rhyme."
Artifact Refining is like smelting specialty steel; different materials must be added to create different microscopic patterns.
Directly drawing specific Dao Patterns with Spiritual Power is extremely difficult, just as a mortal cannot directly manipulate the arrangement of atoms to smelt steel.
But by finding the right formula and proper technique, one can guide a special Dao Rhyme to form unique and powerful Dao Pattern structures on a Dharma Artifact, granting it Extraordinary properties and power.
HUMMM!
Just then, ripples suddenly appeared in the space at the edge of the Array.
Immediately after, a figure cloaked in deep purple materialized out of thin air, hovering in the void.
The Dragon Witch was still in her deep purple dress, her crimson hair drifting in the thin air as if moved by an unfelt wind, like a burning flame.
Her eyes, which swirled with the color of molten gold, studied the grand Artifact Refining Array that spanned for miles, her gaze filled with interest. She focused on the three-inch small sword at its core, which was being repeatedly tempered by the True Sun Flame.
"Truly... a magnificent undertaking," she murmured to herself, her tone filled with unconcealed admiration.
At the center of the array, above the Dark Gold Small Sword, light and shadow converged, slowly forming the spectral upper-body of Murphy.
The spectral figure’s expression was calm as his gaze fell upon Freyja. "Freyja, what are you doing here?"
Upon hearing his voice, Freyja immediately performed an elegant curtsy.
"I have come to deliver a potion to the great His Holiness the Sword of Divinity, of course." She straightened up, a slender bottle somehow appearing in her hand. It was carved from some sort of translucent crystal and filled with a silver fluid that resembled liquid starlight, swirling slowly and emitting a soft, mysterious glow.
"As one of the chief researchers of the Holy Hall Pharmacy, it is my duty," Freyja added, the corners of her lips curling into a smile.
"A potion?" Murphy’s spectral gaze fell upon the crystal bottle. "To develop Spiritual Power?"
"Precisely." Freyja held the bottle in her palm, allowing Murphy to observe it closely.
To smoothly promote the Path of the Priest, there were naturally supporting measures in place.
The Church Court originally had a mature system for extracting and purifying the World Origin, which was then refined into a Secret Medicine to supply Knights for their Cultivation.
Now, Murphy was setting things right, using the alchemical methods of a Wizard to transform this World Origin into potions that could enhance Spiritual Power.
As for the potential impact of continuously extracting the World Origin from this world...
Murphy was, of course, well aware.
