Chapter 498 - 108: A More Likely Ending
For millennia, the Church Court has suppressed Wizards by using specific ritual sites and Holy Artifacts scattered across the Continent to continuously and slowly siphon away the World Origin.
Although the total amount siphoned is minuscule compared to the world itself, over long years and months, it has inevitably inflicted irreversible damage upon the world’s "vitality" and "depth."
It is like continuously harvesting the finest timber from a forest. Even if only a few trees are cut each time, after a millennium, the very landscape of the forest would be forever altered.
Even though Murphy was spearheading the Church Court’s reformation, he was unable—and lacked the power—to overthrow this fundamental system that had persisted for a millennium.
The levels of power involved were far too high, beyond his current reach.
Since this "pump" could not be stopped, or even significantly slowed, the only thing Murphy could do was change the "flow’s" destination.
Rather than allowing this precious World Origin to be used solely for strengthening Knights, he would convert it into a resource that could benefit more people and genuinely drive the progress of civilization.
In short, whether a cat is black or white doesn’t matter, so long as it catches mice.
"What are the results?" Murphy’s projection asked, his voice devoid of emotion.
At his words, Freyja began her detailed report. "According to secret clinical trials over the past three months, the subjects included a number of volunteer Low-tier Clergy, commoners screened for faint Elemental Perception, and a small amount of data from... ah, ’former’ Wizard Apprentices. The results show that this new ’Enlightenment Potion’ can safely increase an adult’s Basic Spiritual Perception Threshold by an average of 15% to 30%. For talented minors, the increase can be even greater, and it exhibits good tolerance for repeated doses. More importantly, it significantly lowers the barrier to the initial perception and guidance of Dimensional Energy, making it much easier to begin the Path of the Priest."
Observing the reaction of Murphy’s projection, she added, "Of course, due to its scarcity, true growth in Spiritual Power will still require arduous Meditation."
"Excellent." Murphy’s projection gave a slight nod. "Begin mass production. Prioritize the supply for the first class of students at the soon-to-be-established Tower of Revelation. Gradually open up application channels to promising, age-appropriate individuals in every diocese. And establish strict protocols for its administration and follow-up observation."
Freyja continued, "But a large-scale rollout... it might provoke resentment from the traditional Knight class, especially the nobles who rely on the Knight’s Secret Medicine to maintain their power and status."
Murphy’s projection seemed to chuckle, a faint smile that carried an air of absolute certainty.
"They won’t."
He paused for a moment before continuing.
"I’m not restricting the nobles, or even their children. They can also apply for the Enlightenment Potion. They, too, can set foot upon the Path of the Priest. The path to power has been broadened, with opportunities open to more people. The intelligent ones will naturally see the new possibilities this holds. As for those who insist on clinging to the old ways, refusing to even consider the new, or even try to ruin it for everyone..."
The projection’s gaze seemed to darken, and his voice grew several degrees colder.
"They’ll have to stay alive if they want to understand."
At these words, Freyja was taken aback for a moment, then the smile playing on her lips widened.
"I understand, Your Excellency," she said, her voice bright. "In that case, I shall not disturb you while you forge your sword. May the True Sun Flame forge for you the sharpest of blades."
With that, she gave another elegant curtsy. Her deep purple figure, along with the Crystal Bottle in her hand, began to fade rapidly. In the blink of an eye, she vanished without a trace, leaving only the faintest scent of violets in the thin air, which was soon overwhelmed by the scorching aura of the True Sun Flame.
Murphy’s projection hovered silently for a moment, its gaze returning to the Three-inch Dark Gold Small Sword slowly rotating and being tempered within the True Sun Flame.
Upon the sword’s blade, the Dao Patterns etched by threads of True Flame grew clearer and more complex, faintly resonating with the circulation of the entire Grand Array.
The projection then slowly dissipated, merging back into the body of the sword.
At an altitude of 850 li, the vast, empty sky returned to silence.
Only the vast array, spanning several li, continued its eternal operation.
...
「Four months later, September.」
The Holy City on the Jade Coast had shed the sweltering heat of high summer, welcoming the most comfortable and pleasant season of the year.
The humid monsoon winds from the sea had grown mild, sweeping gently across the basin and bringing cool, fresh air.
The sky was a clear, azure blue, dotted with a few lazy wisps of cloud.
The sunlight was still plentiful but no longer scorching. Like molten gold, it spilled evenly over white rooftops, lush, tree-lined avenues, and the first autumn flowers blooming in every street and alley.
The entire city seemed to be bathed in a bright, gentle halo of light.
In the heart of the basin, the landmark complex of the Holy City—once a collection of buildings surrounded by open plazas and old colonnades—had now been replaced by a magnificent, never-before-seen structure.
A pure-white tower soared into the sky, its absolute height of two hundred meters making it the most striking landmark in the entire Holy City, and indeed, the whole basin.
The body of the tower was constructed from massive, precisely cut blocks of white stone. Its lines were clean and fluid, its surface polished to a mirror-like sheen that gleamed in the sun, as if it were carved from a single, enormous piece of white jade.
Its spire pierced the clouds, pointing toward the clear autumn sky in a perfect embodiment of its name: the Tower of Revelation.
The speed of its construction might seem surprising.
But under the drive of Murphy’s will, the Church Court had mobilized unprecedented resources. It gathered the top artisans and scholars on the Continent, employing new materials and standardized procedures with the aid of Extraordinary Power. Thus, to complete such a colossal tower, one that served both symbolic and functional purposes, in a mere four months was not an impossible feat.
