Chapter 484 - 350: Red-Pointed Spear, Exterminating the Longevity Cult
A Cultist began chanting a Spell, dark purple Energy coalescing in his palm. But a moment later, a disruptive wave from a Spiritual System user hit him.
The Spell was interrupted. The Cultist grunted, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
The entire sequence was smooth and perfectly coordinated.
Soon, all five Level Three Mutants were down, and three Cultists had been captured alive.
The team members suffered only minor injuries, which healed quickly under the green light of a Healing System user.
"Perfect!" Zhou Zhen couldn’t help but exclaim, his face flush with excitement.
’He’d never even dreamed of such efficient coordination.’
"Advisor Yin, how did you..."
He turned to look at Ian, wanting to ask how the man understood the team’s abilities so well.
The words reached his lips, but he swallowed them. ’The Perception of a Legendary Powerhouse is probably just this terrifying,’ he thought.
Ian offered no explanation. He walked over to the three subdued Cultists, his gaze falling upon the Badges on their chests.
The design depicted twisted vines wrapped around a skull.
A Psychic Ability User stepped forward to interrogate them, his voice laced with a Power that could ensnare the Soul.
"What are you doing?"
The Cultist’s eyes lost focus and his lips trembled.
"A ri-ritual... a sacrifice... to summon a great being... tear open the Rift... and welcome the descent of our lord..."
The man’s fragmented words pieced together the general truth.
The Longevity Cult was trying to use a blood sacrifice to forcibly expand the Rift and welcome a more powerful entity.
"Where is the entrance to the Rift?"
"In... the deepest part... the altar..."
After speaking, the Cultist’s head lolled to the side, and he passed out completely.
The Psychic Ability User withdrew his hand, wiping the sweat from his brow.
"Advisor Yin, there are Restrictions placed on their Souls. If I press any further, they’ll self-destruct."
Ian nodded and gazed into the depths of the valley.
The mist had grown thicker, and the dark purple Energy within it showed signs of boiling into a rampage.
"You all stay here and clean up what’s left. I’m going in alone."
Zhou Zhen was alarmed. "Advisor Yin, should we... notify headquarters?"
"The situation in there is dire. There’s no time."
Ian cut him off and strode toward the mist, a glint of gold flashing deep within his pupils.
As he entered the mist, his figure blurred and then vanished into the dense, dark purple fog.
「Inside the Rift.」
An altar constructed from black Rock stood in a clearing. It was ten meters tall, its surface covered in twisted Runes.
At the center of the altar, a millstone-sized, dark purple Crystal Stone floated, emitting an incredibly dense Abyssal Aura.
Surrounding the altar, hundreds of black-robed Cultists knelt.
They softly chanted an abstruse Spell, their voices merging into a droning wave of sound.
At the forefront of the altar stood three figures.
The one in the center wore a Dark Gold Long Robe, and the vines on the Badge upon his chest were blood-red.
He was the only one present in the Legendary Realm, and he was the Pope of the Longevity Cult.
The two individuals behind him wore purple Bishop’s Robes, their auras at the level of Grandmaster Peak.
"The ritual is almost complete."
The Pope looked up at the sky above the altar, his expression ecstatic.
There, a dark purple Rift was slowly expanding. Through it, one could faintly make out the landscape of another world.
A dark red sky, black earth, the twisted ruins of buildings, and countless pairs of crimson eyes.
"Our lord is watching us..." the Pope declared, spreading his arms, his voice fanatical.
"Once we tear open the Rift, our lord’s Will shall descend, and the entire Black Dragon Mountain Range will become our paradise!"
The two Bishops behind him echoed in unison, "For the glory of our lord!"
The chanting of the Cultists below the altar grew more fervent. Dark purple Energy surged from their bodies, flowing into the altar and pouring into the Crystal Stone.
The light grew increasingly brilliant, and the Rift expanded faster and faster.
Then it happened.
"CAW!"
A piercing bird cry interrupted the Cultists’ frenzied ritual.
A black shadow shot out from the dark purple mist like a bolt of lightning, streaking past the outermost Cultists.
THWIP! THWIP! THWIP!
Three heads flew into the air, spraying blood, and the Cultists’ chanting came to a sudden stop.
"Enemy attack!"
A Bishop roared, forming a purple-black Energy Ball in his palm and hurling it at the dark figure.
But the dark figure had already vanished, melting into the mist. A second later, it reappeared on the opposite side, followed by three more flashes of blood.
"A Shadow Creature!"
Anger flashed across the Pope’s face. He raised his right hand, and dark purple Energy began to gather within it.
"Find it for me!"
But the dark figure was too fast, moving like a true Shadow. It weaved and leaped through the mist, flickering in and out of existence.
Each time it appeared, it claimed several more lives.
The Cultists descended into Chaos. Their chanting broke, and the Energy fueling the ritual began to destabilize.
"Don’t stop! Hold your positions!"
The Pope roared, and the Energy in his hand morphed into countless tentacles that lashed out at the dark figure.
But it was useless. The dark figure always dodged ahead of time, as if it could predict his attacks.
The Pope’s eyes hardened. "This is no ordinary Shadow Creature. Someone is controlling it!"
He snapped his head up to look at the sky.
Above the mist, a figure had appeared at some point—a man in a deep blue uniform, with black hair, black eyes, and a serene expression.
’How did we attract a Legend so quickly?’ The Pope seethed with resentment, a flicker of fear in his eyes.
"May I ask who I am addressing? Why do you interfere with our ritual?"
Ian looked down at the Crystal Stone on the altar. Deep within his pupils, a five-colored Star Orbit began to spin faster.
’Oh? It looks like there’s a wisp of corrupted essence inside.’
A greedy glint appeared in his eyes. ’Now this is a treasure.’ As for the corruption tainting it, he couldn’t have cared less.
"Gaga, go hunt on the perimeter. Don’t let a single one get away."
The dark figure flashed and immediately resumed the hunt.
With a mere thought from Ian, the Gravity Rule descended, and the very air within a ten-kilometer radius suddenly solidified.
The light of the Runes on the altar dimmed instantly, and the Rift’s expansion ground to a halt.
