Chapter 378: Hands Wrapped Tightly Around Quentin Blackwood’s Waist
The DNA test results came back quickly. Sylvia Blackwood’s DNA was a match with Xavier and Miles Mercer.
They were related by blood.
Everyone was stunned, including Sylvia Blackwood herself.
Everyone except Caleb Blackwood, of course, though his feigned shock was as convincing as anyone’s.
"This... How is this possible?" Caleb Blackwood feigned disbelief.
Miles Mercer was so shocked he was speechless. ’Have they really found their sister?’
Was this girl in front of him truly his sister?
But for some reason, he felt a sense of unfamiliarity, as if he couldn’t feel any closeness to her at all.
In comparison, he much preferred Ivy Sherwood. He always felt a sense of joy whenever he saw Ivy.
"Brother, is this really our sister? Our aunt’s daughter?" Miles Mercer wondered if he was simply overjoyed—so much so that the joy had looped back around, leaving him feeling none at all.
Xavier Mercer’s brow was furrowed tightly. ’This person in front of me... is this really my little sister?’
"Dad, am I not your daughter?" Sylvia Blackwood had no idea what was going on. She wasn’t Caleb Blackwood’s daughter?
"This is all too sudden. I’m not sure myself."
Xavier Mercer held the test report. "President Blackwood, where is the Jade Pendant? May we see it?"
Caleb Blackwood said, "It’s at my house."
"Then how about we accompany you home, President Blackwood?"
"Of course."
At the Blackwood residence, Anna Nash had just woken up when she heard the maids cleaning. They were saying that Caleb Blackwood had announced a very important guest was coming.
Anna Nash found it strange. ’Who could possibly be important enough for Caleb Blackwood to call them a "very important guest"?’
Soon, Caleb Blackwood returned, followed by two men and Sylvia Blackwood. The atmosphere between them was strange, no matter how you looked at it.
Anna Nash didn’t rush downstairs. Instead, she hid upstairs and eavesdropped. After getting the gist of the conversation, she was horrified.
’What? Sylvia Blackwood isn’t Caleb Blackwood’s daughter, but the sister of these two men?’
She saw Caleb Blackwood enter the study, beginning to rummage around before he even had time to close the door. He was looking for that Jade Pendant.
Caleb Blackwood looked at the Jade Pendant. ’It feels a little different somehow,’ he thought, but he couldn’t put his finger on why. Right now, though, he couldn’t afford to worry about such details.
Anna Nash watched as Caleb Blackwood came downstairs with the Jade Pendant and presented it to the two men. "This is it. This is the Jade Pendant Sylvia was wearing when she was found."
Anna Nash was shocked. ’That Jade Pendant belongs to Sylvia?’
’But doesn’t that pendant belong to Ivy Sherwood? Caleb Blackwood is lying.’
’And Sylvia had her eyes surgically altered to look so much like Ivy’s. What is going on? What is Caleb Blackwood trying to do?’
Anna Nash watched quietly, not going downstairs.
Xavier Mercer said, "President Blackwood, our grandfather’s health is poor. Could we bring her to Elandra?"
Caleb Blackwood replied, "Although this is sudden, I think we should respect Sylvia’s wishes."
Sylvia Blackwood shook her head. "I won’t go. I don’t even know you. I’m my father’s child. Even if we are a family like you say, you abandoned me back then, so why do you want me back now? I’m not going back!"
Sylvia Blackwood was resolute, and Caleb Blackwood put on a helpless expression.
In reality, this was all Caleb Blackwood’s idea. If Sylvia went back with them, what if they ran another DNA test? His reach wasn’t long enough to influence matters over there.
He could only string the Mercer family along for now while he carefully planned his next steps.
Since Sylvia Blackwood wouldn’t go with them, Xavier and Miles Mercer had no other choice. They had to leave things as they were for now. At least they had found their aunt’s daughter, right?
The two of them soon left the Blackwood residence. Their car was parked just outside, but Xavier Mercer didn’t start the engine for a long time.
"Brother, what’s wrong? Aren’t you happy we found our little sister?" Miles Mercer asked, seeing Xavier’s grim expression.
Xavier Mercer’s brows were knitted together. "Something just doesn’t feel right."
"What doesn’t feel right?"
Xavier couldn’t quite put his finger on it. A girl just suddenly appears, and by sheer coincidence, she’s their sister?
But the DNA test explained everything; the girl was related to them by blood.
Their meeting was also sudden, a result of seeking out Caleb Blackwood. Besides, they had been in Lustre for so long without anyone knowing their purpose. And those eyes looked so much like their aunt’s... it was impossible for someone to have set this up in advance.
And yet, Xavier couldn’t shake the feeling that there was some unidentifiable problem.
...
「After a flight of several hours, Ivy Sherwood finally arrived at Aethelgard Airport.」
After getting off the plane, she went straight to the DG Group, but since she wasn’t an employee, she couldn’t get in. The receptionist also didn’t know if Quentin Blackwood was in the office.
Ivy Sherwood asked if the receptionist could help contact Quentin Blackwood. The employees at DG were all very professional and agreed to try and reach him for her.
Soon, Zane Linton received a call and informed Quentin Blackwood, "President Blackwood, Miss Sherwood has arrived in Aethelgard. She’s at the company entrance right now."
Quentin Blackwood hadn’t expected Ivy Sherwood to be so fast, but he knew this was something he had to face sooner or later.
"Let her in."
Zane Linton produced a box. "President Blackwood, this is for you."
Inside the box lay a complete Jade Pendant, pieced together from two halves. It was the one Quentin Blackwood had someone retrieve from Caleb Blackwood.
...
Having received permission, Ivy Sherwood was led into the president’s office.
This was Ivy Sherwood’s first time at Quentin Blackwood’s company. It was unimaginably large. The building itself was incredibly luxurious and located in the heart of Aethelgard’s Financial Street, where every inch of land was worth a fortune, proving DG’s power.
Quentin Blackwood’s office was even more spacious. This floor was occupied almost exclusively by him and Zane Linton. Not only was the office astonishingly large, but its position at the top of the skyscraper also offered a panoramic view that stretched far into the distance.
Quentin Blackwood’s office also contained a great many books, in many different languages.
’He really is amazing, so capable,’ she thought.
As Ivy Sherwood waited, her heart began to pound. A sense of foreboding spread through her.
The weather was so cold today. The chill seemed to seep from her heart into her very bones.
She didn’t know how long she waited before the office door was pushed open.
"Quen—" Ivy Sherwood stood up excitedly, only to find that it wasn’t Quentin Blackwood, just a young secretary.
"Miss, we’re not sure when President Blackwood will be back. Would you like something to drink? Or are you cold? Should I turn on the heat for you?"
"No, thank you. I appreciate it," Ivy Sherwood said with a faint smile.
"You’re welcome." The young secretary walked out.
Ivy Sherwood checked the time. It was already the afternoon, and she hadn’t eaten anything since the morning. She wasn’t sure if she was past the point of hunger or if the baby in her belly was protesting, but her stomach felt uncomfortable.
Ivy Sherwood endured it. After waiting for who knows how much longer, the office door opened again. This time, Ivy finally saw the person she had been waiting for.
Quentin Blackwood was dressed in a suit, his figure as tall and straight as ever. And that face was the one Ivy Sherwood had been thinking of constantly.
Without a second thought, Ivy Sherwood ran over and threw herself into Quentin Blackwood’s arms.
Her arms wrapped tightly around Quentin Blackwood’s waist. But he didn’t smell of cedarwood; instead, there was the strong scent of perfume on him.
