Chapter 385: Meeting Old Master Mercer Again
Ivy Sherwood barely slept a wink all night and woke up even earlier than Nina Scott.
When Nina Scott woke up, she found Ivy Sherwood gone again and nearly had a heart attack.
Thankfully, she went out and saw Ivy in the kitchen. Nina hurried over to help. "You’re in a different situation now. You have to be careful."
"I’m just making a meal. It’s not a big deal."
"That’s not okay. Let me do it."
Nina took over from Ivy and told her to wait outside. She quickly finished making breakfast.
"Ivy, just rest at home today. Don’t go to the office." Nina looked at Ivy’s eyes, which were as swollen as walnuts.
"Okay, I’m not going to the office. I need to make a trip to the Blackwood residence."
"The Blackwood residence? Do you want me to go with you?" By now, Nina had become sensitive to even the name "Blackwood."
Ivy Sherwood shook her head. "No, it’s fine. I’m just going to ask Caleb Blackwood a few things."
Seeing Nina’s worried expression, Ivy said, "It’s really okay. After I’m done with my questions, I’ll have lunch with you. How does that sound?"
"Okay." Only then did Nina agree.
It was the weekend, so Caleb Blackwood probably wasn’t at his company. Ivy Sherwood went directly to the Blackwood residence.
Outside, however, she happened to see another car.
Miles Mercer got out of the car. Ivy was surprised. "Miles?"
Miles was also surprised when he saw Ivy.
"Didn’t you go back to Elandra?"
"Didn’t you go to Aethelgard?"
They spoke at nearly the same time, then both fell silent, stunned by the coincidence.
"I went, and then I came back," Ivy said. "What are you doing here? Where’s your brother?"
"My brother is busy," Miles said. "I’m here to pick up my sister. And speaking of which, it’s quite a coincidence—we found her!"
"Really?" Ivy was thrilled. She knew they had been searching for their sister for a long time, and she also knew that the old master deeply missed his daughter.
If it was true, finding her would be wonderful news.
"Congratulations. But you’re here to pick up your sister?"
’Picking her up from the Blackwood residence?’
"Yes. My sister is Sylvia Blackwood, Caleb Blackwood’s younger daughter." Miles was still beaming.
"What? Sylvia Blackwood?" Ivy was incredulous. ’Sylvia Blackwood is a Mercer?’
’This is unbelievable. Isn’t Sylvia Caleb Blackwood’s daughter?’
Miles said, "It’s a long story. After we parted ways at the airport that day, a girl bumped into us. We realized she bore a slight resemblance to our aunt, so we ran a test and found out our blood was a match."
"Caleb Blackwood also said he found Sylvia when she was a child. She’s not willing to acknowledge us yet, but I want to spend more time with her. Maybe she’ll agree to go back and see Grandfather."
Ivy still found it highly unlikely. ’How could Sylvia Blackwood possibly be related to the Mercer Family?’
’Could this be some kind of scheme by Caleb Blackwood?’
’But faking a DNA test can’t be that easy. Would Caleb Blackwood really be that audacious?’
Just then, Sylvia Blackwood walked out. The moment she saw Ivy, her heart skipped a beat. She quickly put on her sunglasses, lowered her head, and continued on her way.
Before, she would have already marched up to taunt Ivy.
But now, she felt too guilty to speak to Ivy. After all, her eyes were a dead giveaway.
"Miles, didn’t you say you were taking me to get something good to eat? Let’s go already!" Sylvia clung to Miles’s arm.
"Okay. Well, Ivy, we’ll get going then."
"Okay, bye." Ivy waved to Miles.
Of course, Xavier Mercer had told Connor Mercer about finding their sister the moment it happened.
They hadn’t planned on telling their grandfather so soon, but he’d overheard them.
Sylvia Blackwood was unwilling to go to Elandra with them, or even to leave Lustre, but their grandfather couldn’t wait. He insisted on seeing his granddaughter, so Connor Mercer had no choice but to bring the old master to Lustre.
Xavier Mercer went to arrange for a restaurant, while Miles Mercer had come specifically to pick up Sylvia Blackwood so they could all go meet their grandfather together.
However, when Miles arrived at the rendezvous point, his eyes went wide. "What do you mean, Grandfather’s missing?"
Connor Mercer sounded vexed. "The airport staff is helping with the search, and I’ve already called the police. But they won’t file a missing person’s report until twenty-four hours have passed. Our influence doesn’t extend to Lustre, so we have very few people to deploy. We’re already doing everything we can."
"Then we’d better hurry up and search too!"
So the three brothers split up to search. Their grandfather was getting on in years; they couldn’t risk anything happening to him.
Sylvia Blackwood was left all alone, and she was not pleased. ’What is wrong with these people? They’re the ones who asked me to come, and now they’ve just abandoned me.’
...
After Ivy Sherwood entered the Blackwood residence, she found that neither Caleb Blackwood nor Anna Nash was there.
Caleb was probably at his company, and it seemed Anna was planning to go on a trip. Ivy knew she had to get answers, so she drove directly to the airport.
In the airport parking lot, Ivy saw a familiar-looking old man.
’Isn’t that Old Master Mercer?’
’I can’t be mistaken, can I? But the old master is in Elandra, so how could he be in Lustre? I must have the wrong person.’
But that face... it was clearly the same one she had seen in Elandra.
’Miles said they found their sister. It’s possible the old master came from Elandra after all.’
After a moment’s thought, Ivy got out of her car. "Sir, are you looking for something? Where is your family?"
When the old master saw Ivy, he gripped her hand tightly. "Winter! Winter!"
’It really is Old Master Mercer.’
Ivy knew he had mistaken her for someone else. "Grandpa, my name isn’t Winter. I’m Ivy Sherwood."
"Winter! You are my Winter!" the old master exclaimed, gripping Ivy’s hand excitedly.
The weather was cold, so Ivy had the old master get into her car, turned on the heat, and then called Miles and the others.
The three brothers breathed a sigh of relief when they heard their grandfather had been found.
In the car, Old Master Mercer held Ivy’s hand and wouldn’t let go. "Winter, my Winter."
"Old Master, I’m really not Winter Mercer’s child. I heard from Miles that you found your daughter’s daughter. If Sylvia Blackwood is really your granddaughter, I know her, too."
’It’s such a coincidence,’ she thought. ’How could it be Sylvia Blackwood?’
’Caleb Blackwood is a man full of schemes; it seems like everything is part of his calculations. I should wait for Xavier and the others to arrive and remind them. They absolutely have to confirm it again and again. Otherwise, Caleb is very likely plotting something else.’
"You are Winter’s child! You’re my granddaughter!" The old master’s eyes were fixed on her, not even blinking.
Ivy said, "I feel a sense of closeness to you too, Old Master. Meeting you in Elandra and then again here... it must be fate. It’s just a pity I’m not so fortunate. My mother’s name wasn’t Winter Mercer. My mother was named Yvonne Summers. Have you ever heard that name, Old Master?"
Old Master Mercer shook his head. Those eyes looked so much like his Winter’s. How could she possibly not be her?
