Chapter 124 - 99: A Succession of Masters
"Merciful Buddha!"
He roared as his fist came crashing down.
Lady Wu’s face turned pale. Mustering all her strength, she thrust both palms forward to block the blow.
The next instant, however, a series of sickening CRACKS rang out.
The bones in both her arms shattered, causing them to crumple together. The fist continued its descent, about to engulf her entire body in the blink of an eye.
But at that very moment, the sound of something whizzing through the air could be heard.
A great cauldron, hovering half a foot off the ground, came whistling over. It kicked up dead branches and fallen leaves, creating a flurry of shadows in the air. Just as it reached Lady Wu, a hand reached out and pulled her into the golden vessel.
The brawny man’s "Merciful Buddha" fist landed unceremoniously on the golden cauldron.
BOOM!!!
The resounding clang spread in all directions, and the rim of the enormous golden cauldron instantly warped.
The entire cauldron was sent flying, snapping a large tree in half mid-trunk.
Only then did the golden cauldron tumble to a stop.
The brawny man retracted his fist and strode toward the golden cauldron.
He was just about to reach in and drag out the two people inside.
When a gravelly, aged voice spoke:
"I knew a nest of vipers was hiding near Benma County."
"The Great Brahman Vajra Skill is a treasured manual of the Great Brahman Zen Temple in Qing Country. For him to have cultivated it to this level, he’s hardly a viper."
"He’s worth taking seriously."
Another voice, this one belonging to an old woman, chimed in. Though her words were serious, her tone was laced with mockery.
"Who’s there?"
Hearing the voices, everyone present paled.
The voices were close, yet no one had sensed their presence.
And the owners of these voices weren’t trying to hide.
The surrounding mist and miasma had already been blown away by the shockwaves of the earlier clashes.
Following the sound, they looked up and saw an old couple perched on the branch of a large tree.
One of them was missing a left arm, the other a right. They were using their remaining arms to hold each other.
As if no one else were there, they were commenting on the crowd below.
The old man was heard saying,
"Liao Chengfeng’s Reversed Soul Devouring Palm has some merit, but his Search Divine Arts are utter nonsense."
"Back in the day, the Search Divine Sect was wiped out because of this very martial art. It just goes to show, having big ears is not a good thing."
The old woman nodded.
"But that depends on the person."
"The Ink Pavilion might have big ears, but they don’t go around spreading people’s secrets."
"But when the Search Divine Sect found things out, they’d blab about it everywhere, as if afraid people *wouldn’t* know what they could hear."
"The result, naturally, was their own annihilation."
"Now, one of their remnants has survived, but instead of hiding himself away, he’s decided to pop up and play the role of a buffoon."
"The way I see it, his death isn’t far off either."
Liao Chengfeng had already forced out the palm poison from the Seven Venoms Soul Scattering Palm and taken the antidote for the poison pill the old bastard had given him. But now, a cyan tinge colored his face.
It was a sign that the poison hadn’t been fully purged. Hearing their conversation, his expression grew even darker and more unsightly.
His face resembled that of a cyan-faced Evil Ghost.
"And who are you two? At your age, still hugging and cuddling up there. Have you no decency!"
"Hm? Did I say you could speak?"
The old woman sneered, and her figure suddenly vanished.
Liao Chengfeng was stunned. He spun around and thrust out a palm strike.
He struck just as a figure began to materialize in front of him—the timing was perfect.
But to his surprise, the palm passed right through the afterimage. Instead, the figure simply raised a hand, and a sharp SLAP echoed.
His ear was burning!
"You...!"
When had Liao Chengfeng ever suffered such a humiliating disgrace?
He flew into a rage, but in that instant, the figure before him dissipated. He looked up to find the old woman had already returned to the tree. Leaning against the old man, she chuckled and said,
"Kids these days have no filter. Don’t you think he deserved a slap?"
"He did, he did."
The old man nodded repeatedly, his face full of adoration as he said,
"If you say he deserved it, then he deserved it. Even if he didn’t, he still deserved it."
"Oh, stop flattering me. We’re too old for this. Aren’t you embarrassed?"
A hint of shyness appeared on the old woman’s face. She shot the old man a look, but her eyes were sweet as honey.
Everyone present was left speechless.
It might have been fine if they were a young couple, but for two people of their age to act like this... it was truly unsettling.
Just then, another voice spoke up:
"You two, it’s time for business. They must be here for that item as well."
"We still have great use for it. It absolutely cannot fall into the hands of others."
The voice was young. Hearing it, Jiang Ran immediately recognized it as the Young Manor Lord.
As for the old couple, their identities were obvious.
Yang Monarch Dugu Yu, and Moon Monarch Yin Yue.
Hearing the Young Manor Lord’s words, Dugu Yu let out a cold laugh.
"Whether it’s time for business or not is for me to decide."
"A whelp who’s not yet weaned—is there any room for you to speak here?"
"This junior wouldn’t dare."
The Young Manor Lord quickly said with a placating smile,
"How about this: you seniors can continue your fun here, and this junior will be on his way?"
As soon as he said this, Dugu Yu and Yin Yue remained unhurried, but Liao Chengfeng and his men grew impatient.
Liao Chengfeng waved his hand, and two of his men immediately charged toward the source of the Young Manor Lord’s voice.
But at that moment, an angry roar rang out:
"And who are you supposed to be?"
This was the voice of Tong Wanli.
He had just been fighting Jin Sanding and was sent flying by the golden cauldron into the mist.
He had just found his way back, but before he could reach his destination, he ran into the Young Manor Lord.
Even though he didn’t know who the man was, he could tell he wasn’t an ally. Without hesitation, he unleashed his Myriad Transformations Sky Net Palm.
