A Chronicle of Life in a Different World
Episode 105: The Search for the Dwarves Part 2
Rain falling after noon strengthens its legs over time. Initially, most of the rain grains were blocked by overhead branches, but as the rain gathers momentum, it reaches its limits.
Rainwater accumulated in branch leaves mixes with large grains of rain and is blown by the wind and pours into the reels that were in the forest. If it had been raining outside the forest, it would have been wet in less than a minute.
"Ahah... the rain is getting stronger"
I put a cloth to cover my backpack to avoid rain, and a revulsion of wearing it from my head murmured.
Rainproof cloth is a large cloth coated with monster oil and grease, and even when it rains, oil can play water and avoid getting wet. However, if the oil and fat flow, it will only be a cloth, so it is only temporary.
Some of the tools on the journey are greasy to apply to cloth, but it won't do much to apply in the rain. Grease and fat should be applied to a dry cloth, and if grease is applied in the first place in heavy rain, it must get wet in the rain.
"Hey, what are you gonna do? If you put a flame on your head, this kind of rain will evaporate before you touch it. Are you gonna do it? And then your hair and clothes might burn!
"Eliza, keep an eye out for that runaway girl to do something stupid."
"I see... but it's raining so hard. Shouldn't we wait for the rain to stop under the big tree?
Even though it was a spirit of fire, Reurus looked around while he nailed Sarah, who was in a good mood when it rained. Eliza is right, it's time to find a place to stay.
However, none of the trees that grow in the forest are similar in size, and the leaves are unlikely to prevent rain altogether.
I think it would be easier to put a rope between the tree and the tree and put on a rainproof cloth to make it an instant roof.
If the grease and fat drips off, it will leak, but if you lay some cloth on the roof, it will hold for the time being. In the worst case scenario, the sara can be roasted, the fabric dried, greased, and the roof replaced.
Let's do it if we don't find the cheap tree. Reurus looks around with that in mind, but in addition to bad weather, his vision is dim in the forest.
I was conscious not to lose sight of only one direction of the street, but because it was so dark that I couldn't see it 10 meters away, I almost lost my way without realizing it.
"It's troublesome to scratch the sound out... Sarah, do you have any idea where the heat's coming from in the rain?
"Huh? I am the Spirit of Fire. I can't afford anything like that... I can't..."
Sarah was bragging about her chest, but her complexion gradually got worse.
"... I can't afford a nearby heat source.
"It's raining, so I don't expect that much. It's enough to know even close enough."
Reurus shook her neck sideways because she didn't care about Sarah, who was about to let out her tongue.
"Ah, that? Reurus is gentle... but what makes you feel like something's missing!?
Sarah looked strange because she thought Reurus would say something to her.
"What do you think I am..."
It was a Reurus with eyebrows raised, but Eliza could see her nodding. So I decided not to say anything else.
(From now on, be kind to Sarah a little bit more... that makes it difficult to search the surrounding enemies.)
I felt strange magic earlier, but I don't feel it now. Though it was strangely thin enough to think it was because of my mind, if I was alarmed, I might be scratched in the head.
Sarah's heat sensing isn't going to be any better than usual, so we should be more careful. Footsteps are also extinguished by heavy rain, so it's extremely dangerous to be ambushed by a non-magical bandit.
The big sword is held in the right hand, but the large luggage on the back also inhibits movement in the forest. At a visual distance of about ten meters, blocked by rain and darkness, delays in response can lead directly to death.
I can deal with it if it comes directly. But I don't know if I can handle it if I get shot with a long-range weapon such as a bow.
(You're still going back to Accra... and you're going into town on a rainy day? You think it would be easier to find a place to stay in the rain...?
It was a realuse that ran through the woods in search of a giant tree that could accommodate rain, but I felt the magic in the distance after a certain amount of progress. It's not the obscure magic I just felt, it's the magic that exists firmly.
The magic you can feel as you approach will grow, and judging by its scale, it will be strong enough to reach even the lower-level monsters, or even the critical intermediate ones. It felt like she would run away if she noticed Eliza.
It is possible that there are people with magic, but travelers with magic like Reurus are rare.
"I can feel the magic from over there. Maybe it's a monster. Even if it's strong, it might be intermediate or lower... but it's not moving at all."
In the meantime, it was a realuse that moved its feet in the direction of feeling magic, but the opponent didn't move at all. I guess you don't even like things that move around in the rain.
Be aware of the direction of the street, but feel the magic in the back of the forest. The magic of the dwarf would have been easier, but Reurus, who walked forward thinking about it, found a hole in the foot of the mountain.
There were trees and grass all around, and if I hadn't felt the magic in the back of the hole, I would have overlooked the revus. The hole is about two meters in size, and because of the darkness, the hole is completely invisible.
The slope of the mountain is quite steep, and the rainwater passing through the slope doesn't seem to go too far into the hole. There are trees just above the hole, and it seems unlikely that rain will fall directly into the cave.
"... that hole looks just right for rain lodging."
"But you can feel the magic from inside, right?
"Should I just say something? If you were a dwarf, you'd answer."
The magic hasn't moved. Are you sleeping in the cave or are you simply staying in the rain?
"Let's do it... hey! Answer me if you hear me!
In the meantime, as he approached the cave, he called out to the inside. Still, hold the Great Sword tight and be alert to intercept anything if it hits.
Gruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...
I got an answer. However, it is obviously the voice of a monster.
Sarah!
"Yes, yes!
After hearing the voice of Reurus, Sarah shot a ball of fire into the cave. The fireball illuminated the cave brightly - it was a bear with four arms inside.
It is a bear monster called Orzo and classified as intermediate and lower. It is characterized by the flame magic that comes out of its four arms and mouth.
"Oh... it's just the right place to avoid rain and mesh together. I did it, it's yakiniku tonight."
It's a delicious prey for Reurus. It will be difficult to sell the ingredients because there is no Adventurers Association nearby, but it is worth eating, so I have a full smile.
"I always feel like it's just yakiniku... and save food?
"With that, I'll cook, won't I? It's okay, but I'm a little unconvinced that the Spirit of Fire is replacing you..."
Unlike Reurus, who stood with a great sword with great joy, Eliza and Sarah were making a traffic surface.
Goaaaaaaaa...? Hmm!?
However, the haunted bear, who appeared from the cave, stopped his feet as he saw Eliza's face and fled the scene in a surprising atmosphere.
"--don 't let him escape."
Reurus chases the back of a fleeing bear without turning the rain-muddy scaffolding into an object. Then he slashed his back leg with a big sword and jumped with each backpack on his back.
"Hahaaaaaaaaa!"
Point down the big sword, drop the weight of each package, and put the neck of the broken bear on with a slit. As the feeling of severing the flesh and bones spread to both hands, Reurus instantly twisted the handle of the great sword and widened the wound.
Gh...... ga...... a......
No matter how many monsters you have, you can't live without having your neck cut off. The haunted bear made a small noise and died, laying his body on the ground.
Among the haunted bears that Reurus has seen so far, their body length is not significantly different from that of Reurus.
"You're so small as an adult... but you still have plenty to eat."
Probably a growing bear. Maybe it was because Eliza was actually in the lower realm.
"Okay, mess. mess. I'll bake the meat while it's raining... no, I'll bake the meat while it's raining."
I got food unexpectedly. Reurus laughed satisfactorily as he pulled the big sword out of the neck of the haunted bear.
The cave where the haunted bear lived was wider than I had imagined when I went inside.
The entrance was about two meters, but if it went a little further, it would be the bed of a broken bear, and it was decided in a spherical shape. It is about three meters in diameter, and when you put your luggage in addition to all the reuses, it is a bit narrow, but not inconvenient.
There are holes in the back of the bed that allow you to travel about ten meters. From there, it was a very narrow hole, and Eliza and Sarah had to crawl forward.
Let Sarah light the fire and check it out, but there was only one haunted bear in there. When I checked the ceiling, there was a hole that looked like a vent, from which rainwater came in, but it wasn't enough to flood the cave.
Safe Reurus set Sarah on fire, while he fished the backpack to get out the candles.
I was able to pick up some firewood by the time I got here, but I didn't pick it up as luxuriously as I did when I camped. The amount of firewood is small, and just baking the meat will be the limit.
As a realuse, if the meat is cooked, it is satisfactory, but it is very dangerous that there is no light source when the sun falls.
Let Sarah use Flame Magic to clear up the problem, but use Flame Magic to drain the magic. If you can save magic, you can't beat saving it.
(Er... it's not a secret chamber, and it's not going to be acid deficiency, right? Just leave the fire near the entrance....)
Even if you bake the meat of a roughly chopped bear, it is not funny that you will die from the lack of acid. The cave will be filled with smoke, but it won't be that bad because there are ventilation holes.
"Okay, it's hard to get around any more, and I'm going to eat and rest today. I usually sell it as a ingredient, but I'll try my liver today."
Now on the way, it's a shame, but I can't sell the ingredients for the Bear. Even though the summer season is over, meat and so on are quickly damaged due to the remaining heat.
As a result, Reurus bakes the meat while being willing to eat all of it overnight. Not only meat, but also hard-baked bread and dried fruit. Regardless of Reurus, Eliza and Sarah don't love meat.
Let Sarah, the Spirit of Fire, burn the fire, and Reus burns the meat from one end. I was traveling with Eliza, so I couldn't find it in the flesh of some monsters on this trip.
Blood and fat drips from the flesh because it is not bleeding out, and the jujuju makes a noise. However, Reurus chewed on the meat and gradually flattened.
"Yeah... the smell of beasts is bloody, but shake the salt and you'll cum. I knew cooking was great...."
"Wow, cooking is amazing! I only look like I'm eating raw meat!
"Reurus, do you think you should apologize to Dominic once? When it comes to cooking, Dominique, who is a professional, is pathetic."
The area around my mouth is stained with blood, but it is raining outside, so I should wipe it with wet hands later. Although the amount of smoke when cooking meat is great, I don't want to smoke more than I thought it would flow through the vent.
".............................."
Hmm?
I felt like I heard something from afar as I rode through the flesh of a broken bear. As Reurus looked around, Eliza and Sarah also looked strange.
"Did you hear anything?
And Eliza? I thought I heard you wrong, but I thought I heard something too. "
Eliza and Sarah looked around. That's right. Reurus also stops roaming the meat and concentrates on hearing.
"...... nh...... khm......"
I still hear voices. Reus stood up and grasped the great sword, and looked out through the entrance of the cave.
It's as dark outside as ever, but there's no sign of something lurking. However, I could not hear the voice that I had just heard.
"Hmm?
Reurus turns back into the cave. And once again, your ears are clear - the "voice” reaches.
"Fuck! Whoa, hey! Where are you going? Smoking with smoke is so brave... ooh!
In the back of the cave, in the back of a narrow hole like the Reurus could never get through, such a voice was heard.
