Chapter 623: Compensation And Offer
Chapter 623: Compensation And Offer
"You have got the sword, Lily?" Leo asked about the Peak Blue-tier sword that the demon had picked up when Leo was acting unconscious.
"Yes, it was inside the spatial ring of the demon named Kima. I got it," Lily answered.
Currently, they were flying high in the sky on Agnivar, heading towards the location where Lunaria had dropped Patric and the others.
"By the way, what happened to that demon?"
Leo knew Lily would never allow him to die peacefully, so he was curious.
Lily formed a regretful expression.
"While I was distracted, instructing Pryde to kill the other demons and looking so ways inside the dark room and tunnels, he cut his own tongue and wrist with his own teeth and died from blood loss."
"Well... Nothing can be done now, I guess..." Leo muttered. He could already imagine what Lily must have done before that for the demon to take such extreme measures.
By now, Agni’s enlarging silhouette was becoming clearer and clearer as he got closer to the crowd of refugees.
People who still didn’t know that Leo and Lily were from the academy and had come to join the large group immediately turned around and ran into the forest, while those who already knew about them cheered loudly.
"Whoaa!! Our heroes!"
"Just look at that Wyvern! So big and strong!"
"They must be beast masters!"
"Oh shit! Make way!" a man shouted when he saw that Agni was about to land right at their location.
Ulbert immediately took command and created a large clearing by directing people away.
Swwwossssh!
Agni landed, blowing dust in every direction and making people cough and cover their eyes.
Leo wasn’t interested in any pleasantries and walked straight towards Patric’s party, who stood frozen in place.
When people tried to converge on their location, Agnivar let out a low growl that immediately signalled that nobody was going to be entertained and that they should stay away.
When Leo stood in front of Patric, he extended his hand once again.
"Let me introduce myself again. I am a student at Aurelius Beast Academy, and my real name is Leo," he said.
Even then, Leo and Lily still had their fake disguises on, having decided that revealing their true appearances wouldn’t be wise.
They didn’t even reveal their student ranks or which term they were in. This would allow Patric’s group to have a basic understanding of them while also keeping their identities under wraps so they couldn’t pinpoint who they really were.
Lily also stepped forward, but she went to the girls.
"My real name is Lily, and I am also a student of Aurelius Beast Academy. Nice to meet you," she said with a smile.
But something about that smile seemed to unsettle the men in the group, as they subconsciously avoided looking at Lily.
They had first-hand experience of seeing Kima’s treatment, which had driven the demon to suicide.
"I—we, uh..." Patric stuttered, unable to form coherent words even though he had practiced this conversation multiple times in his head.
But nonetheless, he shook Leo’s hand.
Leo didn’t wait for him to correct himself and continued. He gave a brief explanation of how they had needed to remain undercover to infiltrate the city and, eventually, the core demonic facilities, as well as how they had used Patric’s party for their objective.
"And for that, we would like to apologise," Leo said.
"Huh? Why?" Patric asked, having finally gathered enough composure to speak.
"Because you ended up in this mess because of us."
Patric realised what Leo was trying to say and immediately shook his head and hands in denial.
"No, no, no. That’s not the case. In return, we should be thankful to Sir Leo and Lady Lily for saving us. It was only a matter of time before we went to Tilgarth ourselves, even if we hadn’t met you."
"But that still doesn’t change the fact that we used you people."
Patric couldn’t refute Leo’s words any further, since doing so now would be impolite. He had lived long enough and had interacted with powerful people before—though weaker than Leo—and he knew not to contradict them too much or it risked upsetting them.
He simply nodded, but then he also began to apologise.
"In that case, we should also apologise for our improper behaviour. Please forgive the rudeness we showed you both due to our ignorance." He glanced towards Shreya and flinched.
"I-I’m deeply sorry for my behaviour..." She too apologised with a bow, because she was the only one who had openly cursed at Leo and Lily.
Lily placed a hand on her shoulder to reassure her.
"We are not bothered by it at all. On the contrary, it actually helped us greatly to fool the demons into believing our fake identities. And of course, it let us know we were doing things correctly."
Shreya’s heart was still beating wildly, worried that Lily might secretly still be angry. After all, she had cursed her far too much, believing she was a slave and less capable than herself.
She tried to apologise once again with an even deeper bow, but the injury on her abdomen made her wince.
"Wait, let me just..." Lily muttered before casting a healing spell on her.
Warm green light enveloped Shreya’s body, healing her injuries in an instant. The new scab tissue that had formed over time completely peeled away, and not a speck of a scar remained.
Her skin looked completely unblemished and renewed, even healthier than before.
Shreya’s eyes widened as she immediately checked the injury on the spot.
"I-It’s healed..." she muttered, tears brimming at the corners of her eyes.
Lily then proceeded to cast the same healing spell on Junni, while Leo did the same for the men.
"W-we truly cannot be more grateful." They all bowed in unison.
After that, Leo handed Patric a spatial ring.
"Take this. It’s compensation for all the trouble."
Patric didn’t even think about whether anything was inside the ring. Just the sight of a spatial ring was enough to make his heart lurch. Especially the intricate ingravings in them signifying that it had a big storage inside it.
"T-This is too much! We cannot accept it!" he said.
"Just take it, or else I won’t feel good knowing I didn’t offer proper compensation."
After a bit more back and forth, Patric was compelled to take the ring. His blood was still pumping erratically thinking what sort of treasure he has gotten in his hands.
After that, Leo looked towards Lily and nodded.
"And lastly, I would like to invite you all to become part of my territory in the academy."
