Chapter 624: Back To Academy

Leo and Patric’s party talked for a while, and apparently, they couldn’t leave their families behind to go to such a faraway place.

From their current location, Aurelius Beast Academy was nearly 40,000 kilometers away, and in case they joined Leo, even if they travelled at the fastest pace, it would take them more than two decades just to meet their families, since they wouldn’t be able to afford teleportation or expensive aerial rides.

Even a letter exchange would cost an astronomical sum for them.

Though Leo would have handled such thing, he knew they wouldn’t settle comfortably in his territory with worry about their family eating their heads everytime.

But when Leo offered that he was even willing to take their family members with them, they looked at each other, then toward the destroyed city, and finally back at Leo.

From the brief time they had spent together, it was clear that Leo and Lily were not the regular kind of nobles who didn’t care about their subjects, and that they were strong enough to destroy such a massive city.

When one took into account how easily a city could be destroyed by a considerably strong individual, it wasn’t merely an option but a necessity to look for opportunities to get under someone powerful like Leo.

Where normal City Lords would run away or easily die in the face of an unprecedented crisis, Lords like Leo would actually avert such crises altogether.

In other words, living in Leo’s city would be many times better than living under anyone else. But there was a problem.

Their family members were not in one place and were spread across various cities within a 2,000-kilometer range.

Leo thought for a moment before bringing out his academy Teleportation Talisman and the teleportation token of his territory.

"Take these two things," Leo said, handing them to Patric.

"Sir... what are...?" Patric asked.

"One is a Teleportation Talisman that will immediately teleport you to Aurelius Beast Academy. If you all hold hands and use it, you’ll be teleported together."

Leo continued.

"If you ever find yourselves in mortal danger, use it to escape and save your lives."

Patric’s eyes widened. This was a priceless item!

"But that’s the secondary purpose of this. The main reason I’m giving it to you is so all five of you can gather your families, have everyone hold hands, and reach the academy in an instant."

Leo then pointed at his territory’s teleportation token.

"That other token serves as identification. Show it if you’re questioned by the authorities after arriving at the academy."

Since Leo didn’t have a personal identity token, he used the teleportation array’s identity token instead, because when traced, it would point to his territory, allowing the authorities to know that Patric and the others were his people.

"Remember, don’t hesitate to use it if your lives are at risk."

As he spoke, Leo glanced toward the crowd in the distance, where people were quietly discussing them.

"Regretful as it may be, even we cannot tell who is a disguised demon and who is a human through regular means. In other words, us interacting with you puts you at risk. And yes, don’t worry. If you are forced to use the talisman before gathering your families, I’ll personally arrange for them to be brought over..."

While Leo and Patric chatted, Ulbert watched them from the distance with interested eyes.

Are they students or academy staff? he wondered.

His gut told him they were students, but no student should be capable of causing destruction on this scale, right?

That old face also looks like a disguise... and the way they acted so perfectly to blend into the crowd... they must be experienced Assistant Professors, or maybe even Professors. Damn, looks like the academy was feeling generous, sending such strong people despite always being short-staffed when dealing with these matters, he thought.

Ulbert was an agent of Aurelius Beast Academy and had graduated from it himself. However, due to his low talent, he had returned to his hometown and was living like any ordinary person. Still, because of his connections with the academy, he would occasionally receive small missions from them in exchange for rewards.

Though they were optional, the rewards were lucrative.

Most of the time, they involved information gathering, exploration, or simply reporting the general state of the city if anything unusual had happened.

But this time, his mission was to ensure that a large number of professionals travelled to Tilgarth between any date of March 22 and March 30. He was also instructed to make announcements beforehand so more professionals would gather.

At the same time, he had received information that Tilgarth was infested with demons and that the powerhouses from Aurelius Beast Academy would destroy the city. He was also instructed to leave the city before the destruction began to save his own life.

At first, he had been about to refuse the mission because of the extreme risk. But after seeing the hefty reward of 200 Gold Coins, along with several stat-boosting treasures, he accepted it.

High risk, high reward.

The additional task he had been given was to evaluate the powerhouses’ performance and, if possible, figure out their disguises and check if they were doing things correctly. Because if disguise was easy to be figure out by him, then it would mean negative points for Leo and Lily. And once everything was over, he was supposed to sing the praises of Aurelius Beast Academy and send a report back to them.

Hmm, their destruction capabilities are great, but they weren’t very efficient... how should I put it? It feels like they were naïve? he thought.

He couldn’t get over the fact that Leo and Lily had made the effort to save the captives and had even given enough time for others to escape the city. Of course, that also allowed many demons to escape—though there was no way of knowing who was a demon and who wasn’t.

A poor decision, considering how much damage those escapees could cause.

A lower point in the effort-to-effectiveness ratio if the sole point of demon extermination was taken.

But still, compared to others, their performance was still the best.

Who knows? It might be their first step into the outside world. They’ll eventually learn...

With that, Ulbert silently turned away alongside his guards.

Leo and Patric had already finished their conversation and were bidding each other farewell.

"We are very grateful for the grace Lord Leo has bestowed upon us! We will make sure to reach our new Lord’s territory within six months at the latest!"

Leo nodded.

"Good, see you soon then."

Though 6 months of time was great, Leo needed to adjust to other people too.

With that, he and Lily turned around and walked toward Agnivar.

But Leo suddenly turned back.

"Don’t forget to check the ring. It will greatly support you on your journey!" Leo snickered, imagining their reactions when they found the 500 Gold Coins, a Peak Blue Tier Iron Sword, and the many treasure fruits he had acquired from the Ember Family’s secret realm after killing that Flame Gorilla and bagging the beast’s low-level treasures.

"Good work today."

Saying that, Leo unsummoned Agni and held Lily’s hand.

"Let’s go back," he said with a grin.

"I hope everybody had enough vacation while we were absent." He stretched.

"Time to give them some more work and bring Brother James and Sister Sera."

"Yes!" Lily responded enthusiastically.

"Their letter should be back by now..."

With that, Lily took out her own Teleportation Talisman and infused it with mana to use it. The talisman burned away, and the next moment, they disappeared.
