At night in the City Lord’s Mansion, within the study, Bexilla Ravel was still hunched over her desk, working after a long day.

Standing before her was a maid of about her own age, with long, ivory-colored hair and a graceful figure.

"What’s the status of the investigation?"

Bexilla looked up and rubbed the bridge of her nose. The maid immediately moved behind her and began to gently massage her shoulders.

"A total of eleven villages and towns were attacked by Goblins of varying scales. Nine of them suffered no serious casualties thanks to the rescue efforts of local Guards, militias, city troops, and Adventurers. As for the remaining two villages... the death toll in each has surpassed half the population."

Bexilla took a deep breath, her brow tightly furrowed.

"Arrange for survivor benefits and relief efforts. Also, continue expanding the army, and don’t halt the policies for attracting Adventurers from the inland regions."

"But the financial pressure..."

"If it comes to it, just use my personal funds."

"Miss, your private treasury is running low as well."

"We still have to get through this crisis first!"

"Yes, I understand. Also, during the investigation and data collection, we discovered something else."

"What is it?"

Bexilla paused, stopping her move to resume her work.

"During the post-battle cleanup in the disaster-stricken areas, including those two heavily affected villages, a large number of bodies have gone missing. The actual number of remains found is seriously inconsistent with the expected figures!"

The maid’s tone was grave. She clearly understood this was no small matter.

In the past, Bexilla might have wondered about the reason, but recently, Silver Stream City had been facing other troubles...

She immediately connected the two events and gasped.

Missing bodies, an Undead Mage, Goblins...

’Could there be some kind of connection between these three?’

Was the Undead Mage who suddenly appeared deep in Loran Forest related to the proliferating Goblins?

Although she couldn’t figure out the specific connection right away, Bexilla clearly recognized that things might not be so simple!

"This matter requires further investigation... By the way, what about that girl Flora? Why haven’t I seen her recently?"

If Silver Stream City truly fell into a major crisis, this Elite Mage, who was now an instructor at Saint Antonia Academy, could help alleviate a great deal of her pressure.

"Miss Flora has been busy investigating matters related to Lawrence. I’m afraid she’s been spending most of her time operating in Lawrence’s territory lately... Should I contact her?"

Bexilla shook her head. "No, let it be. Lawrence’s side does indeed need to be watched. It’s best to have someone keeping an eye on him."

She had a feeling that all of this was intricately connected to Lawrence!

Colluding with an Undead Mage? Or perhaps...

They were up to something even more terrifying.

"Inform the Adventurer’s Association that the number of Undead Creatures may increase significantly in the near future!"

"I understand."

The maid nodded. Just as she was about to leave, Bexilla called her back.

"How has Feney been recently?"

"Miss Feney went to the Church today. After returning in the evening, she had a bite to eat and went to sleep. Shefilya is with her. Oh, and Shefilya told me that Miss Feney’s Adventurer Squad seems to be planning to set out on a mission tomorrow."

"Besides that Lin Mo and his little Half-Beastman girlfriend, their teammates include the Cyan Orchid Squad from the city."

Bexilla nodded. She had heard of the Cyan Orchid Squad; they were considered one of the more reliable adventurer teams in the city.

Their strength was decent, and there were no issues with their character.

Of course, the most important thing was that Shefilya would be following along.

"With that girl around, there’s no need to worry."

The maid before her also smiled faintly. "Her talent is far greater than mine was."

"After all, the world is fair. When you lose something, you often gain something else in return..."

As Bexilla spoke, she glanced meaningfully at Melissa’s chest.

Melissa showed a somewhat helpless expression. "Miss, after all this time, you’re still bothered by this."

It had been many years since the young master’s passing.

But besides helplessness, she felt a bittersweet wistfulness.

Only at times like this would the young miss act like her former self—a lively, cheerful, and spirited young girl.

「The next day.」

In the early morning, Lin Mo opened his eyes and, almost out of habit, pushed the body lying on top of him away.

He hadn’t chosen to help Ali level up last night, since he had to go out on an adventure today and needed to stay in good condition.

Because of this, he woke up very early, full of energy.

He patted the Little Wolf Girl beside him. Ali whimpered and curled up, snuggling closer to him.

Lin Mo didn’t hold back this time, giving her a swat on the butt.

The Little Wolf Girl flinched instinctively, then raised it high again...

Lin Mo facepalmed. Okay, his bad.

He hauled a groggy Ali out of bed. After washing up, they went to the familiar dining room, just in time to see Feney also rubbing her sleepy eyes, stumbling into the room under Shefilya’s guidance.

His gaze naturally met the young maid’s, and they shared a look of mutual understanding, like one "Hero" recognizing another.

Or perhaps, it was more like misery loving company...

After a simple breakfast, those who weren’t awake were now wide awake. The group headed to the Adventurer’s Association together.

Of course, Shefilya had once again entered "stealth" mode.

Ever since she had revealed herself last time, hiding was no longer an option, but Feney didn’t seem to mind.
