Chapter 200 - 145: Frosty Corpse and Flame Cat Demon
She wasn’t a willful child; she knew safety came first.
In fact, she was even happier knowing that Shefilya would be coming along.
Having a friend she’d grown up with on their adventure would only make things more lively. Plus, with Shefilya around, she wouldn’t have to worry about her teammates being in danger.
When they arrived at the Association, the Cyan Orchid Squad had also just arrived. To their surprise, the squad’s captain, Landon, looked as if he hadn’t woken up yet, a far cry from his usual mature and reliable self.
"You’re here."
Sheela, the squad’s Ranger, was the first to spot them. She waved and called out a greeting.
Huck and the others followed suit, while Landon was the last to react, chiming in with a couple of laughs.
Benny ordered him an iced barley tea. Landon downed it in one gulp, his face scrunching up from the cold.
When he opened his eyes again, he was back to his usual self.
"Regarding the tasks for this adventure..."
Now clear-headed, Landon immediately switched into work mode. "According to the plan we drafted, we’re taking on two E Level tasks and one D Level task."
"For the D Level task, I already have a good option in mind."
Lin Mo nodded. Landon was an experienced Adventurer, after all. It was best to let him take the lead on choosing the tasks, which saved Lin Mo the trouble of searching himself.
This was one of the benefits of teamwork.
"So, what’s the task?"
Ali asked curiously.
Landon led the group to the quest wall. He searched the D Level section for a moment before pulling down a request form.
"This is it. What do you all think?"
[Slay the Frosty Corpse]
Task ID: D758
Type: Culling
Client: Adventurer’s Association
Reward: 330 Gold
Task Brief:
Travel to the Loran Forest Deep Forest Area and slay the special Undead Creature—the Frosty Corpse.
Note 1: Target’s Threat Level is confirmed to be Level 4. Please accept with caution!
Note 2: A large number of other Undead Creatures may be present around the target. Please conduct a thorough reconnaissance before beginning the task!
Lin Mo took a closer look. ’Isn’t this the task I saw before?’
’I considered taking it back then, but ultimately decided to play it safe and passed...’
Now that he thought about it, it was a good thing he hadn’t accepted. Lin Mo remembered that the target’s assessment back then was "tentatively Level 3." But now, after further confirmation, it had been raised to Level 4.
Naturally, the reward had been increased as well, from the original 200 Gold Coins to 330 Gold Coins.
The reward was pretty generous. And while those Rotten Corpses were disgusting, they did have usable materials.
A Rotten Corpse’s Core Bone contains a large amount of Elemental Energy and is a decent magical material. It can be used to craft a Bone Ring or be polished into an alternative "Magic Stone" to enhance Magic Power.
This type of Bone Ring fills a similar role to a Magic Stone and doesn’t interfere with a Magic Staff’s bonuses, but its specific effect is quite different.
A Magic Stone increases Elemental Affinity, whereas this type of Bone Ring increases the Magic Power for its corresponding Element.
You could think of it as a Magic Amplification device that only works on the corresponding Element.
Lin Mo was quite interested. ’I’ll see what its effects are. If it’s good, I could take a smaller cut of the reward, or even none at all, in exchange for the material.’
For a typical Mage, an item like this could only be used if the Element matched. Landon, for example, would need a Bone Ring with the Wind Attribute for it to work. But Lin Mo was different...
’Fire, Ice, Water, Earth, Lightning, even Light... I can use them all, and I plan to master every single one.’
’And I’ll definitely have to add the other Attributes I haven’t learned yet.’
"What does everyone think of this task?"
"I have no objections."
Lin Mo was the first to speak up.
Since he had no objections, Ali and Feney naturally agreed as well.
Benny, being more cautious, instinctively felt the task was a bit dangerous. But then he remembered it wasn’t just their squad anymore—they had Lin Mo’s group with them. So he nodded.
A target with a Threat Level of Level 4 might be a struggle for the Cyan Orchid Squad alone. But adding Lin Mo, who was at least as strong as their own captain, changed everything.
The others all agreed, and so the D Level task was settled.
"Alright then, for the E Level tasks..."
Landon had already planned for this the day before, so he searched with purpose. Before long, he pulled down two more request forms.
"How about these two?"
[Slay the Flame Cat Demon]
Task ID: E6647
Type: Culling
Client: Adventurer’s Association
Reward: 90 Gold
Task Brief:
Travel to the Loran Forest Deep Forest Area and slay the special mutant variant of Cat Demon—the Flame Cat Demon.
Note: Target’s Threat Level may be Level 2 to 2.5. It may be surrounded by numerous companions. Please proceed with caution.
’Flame Cat Demon?’
Lin Mo recalled the Cat Demons and Cursed Cat Demons he’d faced before. The Flame Cat Demon sounded like an even more unusual variant.
Back when he was still a rookie, the Cursed Cat Demon had been a formidable opponent. But now...
It wasn’t that Lin Mo was being complacent, but with his current Attributes, a monster with a Threat Level between 2 and 2.5 was hardly a threat.
Still, for an E Level Task, this was considered quite difficult, which was why the reward was so high—almost the maximum for its level.
If the Flame Cat Demon’s Level was over 3, this would probably be a D Level task.
As for the second E Level task...
