"However, the Goblins will need to make some preparations before they attack the city, so I estimate we still have a few days’ buffer."

"During this time, Silver Stream City must prepare thoroughly. The Adventurer’s Association will also issue a notice, telling Adventurers to avoid leaving the city as much as possible. You should stay in the city for these next few days, too."

"Alright, I understand."

Lin Mo nodded. ’That was pretty much my plan anyway,’ he thought. ’Going outside when you know it’s dangerous isn’t being eager to improve your strength—it’s just being stupid.’

’Besides, in a few days, the Goblins will deliver themselves to my doorstep. I’ll have plenty of Skill Level to grind then.’

Of course, he wouldn’t just be idle in the city for the next few days. Besides getting some necessary rest, Lin Mo had other things to do.

For example, he could continue helping Ali improve her strength, or he could spar with Shefilya to gain more combat experience. Plus, it would be a good chance to grind the Skill Level of his Resilience skill.

As he was leaving the room, he happened to see Shefilya walking toward him. He figured she was probably looking for Lady Beixila about something.

Lin Mo greeted her, but Shefilya seemed distracted. It took her a couple of seconds to come to her senses and nod back at him.

Lin Mo felt the way she looked at him was somewhat strange.

For Shefilya, who was expressionless most of the time, this was clearly abnormal. He had no idea what could be on her mind.

Lin Mo took the opportunity to mention sparring with her later, and Shefilya agreed without hesitation.

...

Lin Mo turned and left the City Lord’s Mansion. He planned to go to the Church to see Feney and play the part of a Priest again while he was there.

’But I won’t be as flashy as last time,’ he resolved. ’I’ll just help with the Healing normally and earn a bit of Skill Level.’

Shefilya watched his retreating back, looking for a moment like she wanted to say something but held herself back.

Turning around, she knocked on the door to the study. Melissa, her mother, emerged.

"What’s wrong?"

Melissa looked at her with a smile. "I’ve rarely seen you like this."

"Mother, there’s something I want to talk to you about..."

Shefilya lowered her head, her expression a little awkward.

Due to her special status and the rigorous training she’d undergone since childhood, she had matured mentally at a very young age. She rarely acted like a child, even in front of her own mother.

But now, there were some things she really couldn’t figure out.

Melissa was clearly aware of her daughter’s troubles. She gently closed the study door and beckoned to her. "Come on, let’s go talk in the courtyard."

They arrived at Melissa’s small courtyard—the same one where Lin Mo had previously sparred with Shefilya.

Melissa went into the house and busied herself for a moment before returning with a pot of hot tea and sitting down at the stone table in the courtyard.

Shefilya sat beside her, her head still lowered, lost in thought.

As Melissa poured her a cup of tea, she asked, "Tell me, what’s troubling you?"

"Mother, about you and the Lord City Lord, back then..."

Melissa knew that the "City Lord" Shefilya referred to was not the current Lady Beixila, but the former one—Lady Beixila’s husband.

And, of course, Shefilya’s father.

Melissa smiled, recalling the past. "Those were happy times. The Master was a good man. He was devoted to the Lady, but he never forgot to take my feelings into account."

"Shefilya..."

Melissa looked at her daughter. "You and I are not the same. We’re no longer in the Empire, nor are we part of the Auswiss Clan anymore. You may have carried on the family tradition by becoming Miss Feney’s personal maid and guard, but that was your own choice."

Shefilya nodded. ’It was true,’ she thought. ’She had undergone extensive training as a child, but once she was old enough to understand, neither her father nor her mother had forced her to become Miss Feney’s attendant, as her mother had been.’

’But in the end, she had chosen to take up her mother’s duty. She wanted, from the bottom of her heart, to protect that innocent, kind, and lovely child.’

"So it’s the same now."

Melissa gently stroked her hair. "You have the right to choose what to do."

Shefilya was silent for a long time. "Has the Lady made her decision?"

"To be precise, it wasn’t the Lady’s decision, was it?"

’That’s right, it wasn’t the Lady’s decision. It was Miss Feney’s...’

’The Lady had only acted that way because of Miss Feney’s feelings and desires.’

Shefilya, who had grown up alongside Miss Feney, knew this better than anyone.

Miss Feney seemed to have a gentle personality, but in reality, she possessed a stubbornness that wasn’t apparent on the surface.

Once she set her mind on something, she would never give up.

Like becoming a Priest to help others, or becoming an Adventurer...

"Miss Feney’s mind is made up," Shefilya said slowly. "Although she’s quite shy and timid, she’s always trying her best to move forward, one step at a time."

Melissa looked at her daughter, her eyes full of loving affection. "So, what about you?"

This time, Shefilya was silent for a long, long time.

Then she finally raised her head and stammered, "Mother, please teach me..."

"Teach you what?"

The smile on Melissa’s face suddenly grew subtle.

"It’s... about matters of service."

To say such a thing to her own mother... even for someone as emotionally detached as Shefilya, the words were hard to get out.
