Age of Adepts

Chapter 0946 - Night Confrontation

For the Zambis Empire, this recent month was simply one of its most difficult periods.

Most of the high ranked knights of the empire were concentrated in the Dabire Highlands, under the command of that powerful 4th ranked Paladin Roland, who was valiantly attacking the high towers of the Evil Witch.

At this time, some powerful and evil witches had once again entered the Enwik Plane and began to wreak havoc in the northern part of the empire.

These outsiders didn't seem to belong to the same camp, and as soon as they arrived in the Enwik Sector, they were caught up in the madness of attacking and fighting each other. And compared to them, the native inhabitants of the Envik Plane were too weak and small.

Not to mention banishing these outsiders, getting even a little closer to them could destroy them in an apocalyptic, natural disaster-like wizard battle. Two sorcerers from a different dimension, a man and a woman, had already destroyed two border towns in succession with their recklessness, and had concocted several terrifying deadly domains within the Sydlak Mountains that no one dared to approach.

And as soon as the two sorcerers left the Cedrak Mountains and entered the interior of the Empire, the losses of Imperial personnel and supplies caused by their recklessness began to skyrocket, even causing a catastrophe in the northern part of the Empire.

It wasn't Grim or Katie who caused the disaster, but rather the Plague Poison Spirit.

As a Plague Poison Spirit at the peak of the 2nd stage, it was not qualified to participate in a fight between two 3rd stage witches. Therefore, Grim almost never summoned this Plague Poison Spirit during daytime battles, and would only send it out to harass Katie during the night.

And the only way the Plague Poison Spirit fought was by casting poison!

Poisoning the air or earth that Katie might pass through, poisoning water sources where Katie might rest, even poisoning jungle creatures that Katie might feed on... in short, everything that Katie might come into contact with, it was happy to release a large amount of biological toxins and plague spores.

Unfortunately, Knife Katy was also prepared, and with her own poison resistance also incredibly high, so she didn't fall into one of the poisonous traps laid by the plague spores. Instead, it was the ordinary jungle creatures that suffered the calamities of the pond and became the victims of these poisonous traps.

Those who were poisoned on the spot were still fine, and there were also some resilient jungle creatures who carried the plague spores and ran outside the mountains, thus transmitting these terrible plague toxins to a wider area.

For a time, the northern part of the empire was overrun with plague, and the spread of the epidemic was extremely alarming.

It was another starless and lightless night, and two bonfires burning next to each other once again illuminated the entire wilderness.

Although it was already late summer and early autumn, the nights were still cold in the wilderness.

The glittering amber sauce brushed all over the surface of the venison, making a slight sizzling sound under the baking fire. From time to time, a drop or two of golden grease drips into the fire below, causing a series of light crackling explosions.

The bizarre puppet-like Plague Poison Spirit sat quietly on Grim's shoulder, supporting its chin with its hand and contemplating silently. On top of its palm-sized wooden body, from time to time, a cloud of turquoise fluorescence overflowed, circling around its body a few times and then not disappearing into the interior of its body.

The nearby Grim perceived very clearly that every time the turquoise fluorescence lit up, strands of strange energy would diffuse out from the surrounding void and merge into the Plague Poison Spirit's body. And the energy scent on its body would also be enhanced by a small amount.

To be honest, this enhanced bit of energy was simply insignificant. If Grim wasn't interconnected with its soul, and still had the chip's meticulous scan, it would be almost impossible to detect this energy increase.

However, even the slightest amount of energy could accumulate to a considerable amount if it was continuous!

Therefore, for the past few days, Grim could clearly feel that the Plague Poison Spirit was frantically hoarding energy in order to break through that unbreakable 3rd stage threshold.

The weak energy that it was ingesting actually came from those life forms that it was poisoning.

Those weak jungle creatures, such as centipedes, lizards, and spotted snakes, the life energy they could bring to the plague poison when they died from the plague toxin was simply unimaginable. However, as the plague toxin spread to the human kingdom, the life energy gained by the plague poisonous spirits immediately began to skyrocket.

Under the strange laws of life, the death of any creature or plant from the plague toxin would increase the power of the plague poison spirit in disguise!

So these days, the Plague Poison Spirit was undoubtedly the most rewarding and abundant fellow in this singular team. And with the months and months of sharpening and training, Grim had also gradually gained a hint of his own fighting style and methods, which was quite rewarding.

However, in contrast to them, that Blade Katy was a bit of a mess and a bit of a letdown!

In another wasteland less than 200 meters away from the Grim fire, Knife Kitty also lit a campfire and faced off against them.

For some unknown reason, it was always difficult for Katy to hunt large carnivorous or herbivorous creatures. Therefore, she could only choose those gophers, snakes or lizards that were everywhere for her food.

To be honest, if you ignore the well-defined flesh, blood and metal demarcations on her body and face, Katy Knife is still a beautiful woman with a small, graceful body. Her face was extremely beautiful, but her taut lips were as thin as two sharp blades, while her eyebrows and eyes were filled with a fierce murderous aura.

At this time, she was hatefully staring at Grim, who was leisurely enjoying a meal in the distance, while twisting and squeezing her hands, the black scaled snake held tightly in her hands was dislocated all over her bones, and the fine scales around her body also fell like snowflakes.

Once the black scaled snake was shoved into her mouth, Katie swallowed quickly with little or no chewing. The two-meter long black scaled snake was swallowed by her in three gulps, and in the end, only an inch of its short tail was left quivering and swaying at the edge of her mouth.

Coldly staring at Grim and the puppet monster on his shoulder, Katie inhaled a sharp breath of air with hatred, and that last snake tail disappeared completely into her scarlet mouth with a grimace.

There wasn't a single normal guy who could become a 3rd rank wizard!

The Black Scaled Snake's famous snake venom was a joke to Knife Katie, whose inhuman stomach sac could even directly digest energy crystals if necessary. Therefore, after swallowing one or two elemental crystals of a rank 2 magical beast, the magical energy in Blade-Katie's body was quickly replenished.

And swallowing flesh and blood creatures was more than just ingesting their flesh and blood tissues, thus sustaining her strange body that was half human and half mechanical. And on a daily basis, Knife Katie regularly swallowed a bioactive concoction.

It was a black, viscous, motor oil-lubricant-like voodoo concoction!

It is only by the biological activity they bring to the table that mechanical sorcerers are able to avoid irreconcilable conflicts between their flesh and blood parts and their mechanical parts. It was the perennial consumption of bioactive concoctions, a heavily flavored witch drug, that also caused their taste buds to almost completely disappear.

Mechanical sorcerers could not distinguish any taste!

Any food is seen by them only in terms of energy and blood activity levels, but they can't distinguish the so-called bitter, sweet, salty, sour, spicy, and other basic flavors. So Grim eating also requires various fine means such as grilling and cooking. But Cutie Katie often times ate but had already omitted these intermediate steps, and was directly swallowed alive.

A man and a woman, two 3rd rank witches, separated by a distance of nearly 200 meters, were coldly facing each other while adjusting their state.

If possible, a new battle could break out at any time.

A mere 200 meters away, it would only take 3 seconds with the full force of Knife Katie's outburst, just enough time for Grim to fully cast a powerful 3rd rank sorcery. As for that 3rd rank elemental magic weapon, it was completely reduced to a 'trash' due to its abysmal speed!

As soon as Grim released his Elemental Magic Armament, Knife Katie would not hesitate to turn around and run.

Anyway, with the speed of the Elemental Armament and Grim, it was impossible to catch up with her.

And the news that there was a magical furnace hidden inside the Elemental Magic Armament, Grim wasn't going to reveal it so easily. So he also pretended to scare the other party away with his Elemental Magic Weapon and then quickly put it away, acting as if he was worried about excessive energy loss.

Only when Grim felt tired and needed deep meditation to restore his mental strength, he would release the Elemental Magic Arm for a long time to act as a bodyguard so that he could have a peaceful sleep.

The battle with this 3rd level mechanical witch was clearly a long one, and Grim had to do his best to keep his spirits and strength levels up. And when that blade Katie felt tired, she wouldn't hesitate to berserk away and find a place far enough away and secluded enough to eat, drink and sleep.

Grim had also tried to dispatch low-level wind spirits and earth elements to pursue the other party, but unfortunately they were all thrown off.

When Grim escaped for 300 to 400 miles in one breath when Katy wasn't around, this strange half-human, half-mechanical creature would still not slow down to catch up with him, as if she could clearly grasp Grim's movements.

After a few attempts, Grim was completely speechless, and gave up on trying to shake off his opponent, and began to make his way and fight with one mind.

Thus, there was also the awkward scene before us where neither could do anything about the other!

Peaceful coexistence? With each belonging to a different camp, each with a different mission, this is simply not possible.

Fighting to the death in blood? As a Level 3 Sorcerer with grand ideals and beliefs, neither Grim nor Knife Katy was prepared to die in this dirty and filthy lower level.

Therefore, whenever there was a danger of dying with their lives, they would not hesitate to give up the seemingly beautiful opportunity in front of them and wait for the next opportunity to appear.

Their lives were still long, and there were too many beautiful things waiting for them to experience and enjoy, so there was no need to bury themselves in this ugly world just for a 'point' of resources and a mission.

However, as the two sorcerers rested and ate while silently confronting each other, an invisible and strange chill suddenly swept over their bodies.

It wasn't that the ambient temperature had changed, it wasn't that there was a disturbance in the magical energy, but... it was a strange spiritual throbbing that could not be described with words. It was as if... as if one was suddenly being stared at by some powerful and strange creature, one's body and mind contracted and throbbed subconsciously.

Damn, that feeling was coming back....

Every time that feeling comes up, nothing good happens!

As expected, just as the two 3rd rank wizards were cursing under their breath, the darkness in the distance was suddenly boiling with people's voices, the lights were blazing, and the stormy sound of horses' hooves was rolling in.

There's an enemy out there!
