Age of Adepts

Chapter 1382 - Pervasive Crisis

Grrrr....

With a noisy and piercing rattling cry, the scattered flocks of Fire Crows suddenly scattered and exploded, choosing to stay away from the goblin convoy and circling up outside the range of the artillery attack.

They no longer attacked on a large scale, but formed attack squads in twos and threes, constantly bursting into the vicinity of the convoy from all directions, continuously eating away at the energy shield with the sticky fire liquid. Once the attack was complete, they quickly withdrew from the artillery attack area and continued circling around on the outside waiting for an opportunity.

The number of battle fiends wasn't too large, not enough to dump all the sky around the perimeter of the position. And once their artillery fire was dispersed, they weren't that lethal to the flock of fire crows.

"Well?" Seeing this, the goblin commander, Pike Woodward, muttered to himself, "Is there a leader out of this group of fire crows?"

Adult Fire Crows were mostly Tier 1 demons, and while their strength was good, their intelligence level was clearly not comparable to humans. Only after the birth of an advanced 1st rank or 2nd rank Fire Crow King would the intelligence of the entire tribe increase significantly.

Only a higher ranked Fire Crow King could possess such intelligence to peek through the goblin convoy's inability to move quickly and voluntarily evacuate this battlefield.

Pike immediately grabbed his binoculars and tried to look for the Fire Raven King among the flocks of Fire Crows flying in the sky. As expected, following the direction of the call, Pike spotted an exceptionally handsome and huge Fire Raven.

It even had a ring of golden feathers on its head, and from afar, it looked as if it was wearing a strange crown.

It seemed that this fellow had not only become a chief, but also had the tendency to evolve into a king!

"Mane, watch your bearing XXX, XXX that Fire Crow King, I want you to take it down with the Wraith Squad! The squad will provide you with fire protection..." as soon as he spotted the main target, Pike gave the battle order.

Hiding inside the combat fiend, the captain of the fiend's combat team, Mane, who was struggling to attack the fire raven, twisted his body at the news and immediately locked onto the strange-looking fire raven through his tactical goggles and concealed triclinic viewport.

"Go, shoot down that ugly turkey!"

Amidst its arrogant, screeching laughter, the eleven Combat Demon Armaments rushed out of the energy mask, firing heavily as they approached the target area.

After hundreds of years of technological upgrades, the current battle demons are no longer the old-fashioned steam machines of the past.

The standard equipment of PG-52 type battle demon weapon is two Mark II magic cannons on the shoulder, two magic rapid-fire cannons on the chest, a quadruple-mounted magic ray gun on the arm, and a sixteen-round goblin missile in the back weapon bag.......

Such a powerful firepower made the PG-52 Combat Demon Armament completely comparable to a 2nd rank Sorcerer. At least on the frontal battlefield, the Metal Demon Armor squad that formed a dense battle formation could be called a battlefield sweeper.

Everywhere they went, a goblin missile rose into the sky and plunged headlong into the Fire Crows with a piercing screech. The exploding warheads were filled with a large number of metal projectiles and arcane crystal fragments, and they continuously exploded in mid-air, scattering metal projectiles that could completely overturn a large area of space.

Fire Ravens are flying demons with outstanding magical resistance, otherwise they can't easily pass through the gaps in space. However, as they lacked the protection of hard armor on their bodies, their physical defense was much weaker.

Therefore, faced with the overwhelming metallic projectiles, the Fire Crows fell into the sky with their feathers flying, black blood splattering everywhere, shrieking miserably.

But even more Fire Crows exploded in anger, swooping from all directions towards the Combat Demon Armor squad protruding from the energy shield. Before the birds arrived, the fire liquid would arrive first!

A series of pyrotechnics spewed at the Demon Armor Squad.

"Open the shield... open the shield... all remember to open the shield!" Mane's scream resounded through the communication crystal.

The various corner hubs of a battle demon's body flipped over, revealing a diamond-shaped crystal and quickly holding up a formidable energy shield under the infusion of magical energy. These energy shields may not be too strong on their own, but with each other superimposed on the shield, they instead have a larger protective angle and higher defensive toughness than the original version of the magic energy shield.

Taking advantage of the energy shield blocking the fire spewing from all directions, the Combat Magic Armament team even more desperately fired wildly. A magic cannon and rapid-fire cannon sprayed large or small energy fireballs, blasting a swooping Fire Crow into a mist of blood. The quadruple-mounted magic ray guns added to their arms even bared, knocking the fire crows out of the sky with a searing ray or frost ray.

Inside the communication channel, the crazy shrieks and screams of the goblin mechs rang out into the air.

At this point, there was no need to bother with any tactical command. Blocking enemy attacks and dumping all the already-formed gunfire on the enemy was the only thing they could do!

The goblin convoy that was at the rear also shifted their guns in unison, clearing the path in front of them with a heavy barrage of artillery and missile attacks.

It was a brutal trail paved purely from the remains of fire ravens and bits of blood and flesh!

The Fire Crow's siege was not without any results, after detaching from the shield of energy light, the single body's magic weapon protection could not take care of every corner after all. So under the intense siege of the crazy fire crows, the energy shield of a battle demon was etched through or burst, and then it could only rely on its sturdy metal body to withstand the burning of the fire liquid.

So far in the battle, the Demon Armor team had penetrated 700 meters into the flock of Fire Crows, killing and wounding nearly 300 of them. And they themselves had lost two of their magic weapons.

Both of them had fallen because their metal bodies had been burned through by the fire liquid, thus triggering a large explosion, and the goblin mechanic inside naturally had no reason to survive.

At this moment, less than two hundred of the original huge flock of Fire Crows were left.

The Fire Crow King was obviously extremely angry, and led his own personal guard to attack the Demon Armor Squad.

The fire liquid they sprayed was obviously more powerful and more etchable than ordinary Fire Crows. One after another, two more Demon Armaments were burned through their armor, and then the Fire Raven King pinned the Goblin Mechanic to the cockpit with a fire arrow.

However, facing the combined stranglehold of the goblin fleet and the magic mech squad, it was clear that the Fire Crow King couldn't find any more opportunities to attack. After all, the Fire Crow's fire spewing attack distance was only a hundred meters, while the Magic Armor Squad's attack range covered 300-700 meters.

If you counted goblin missiles as well, the longest attack range was straight up to 1500 meters!

Such a disparity left the Fire Crows with only their flesh and blood to fight hard against the artillery and energy rays. At the end of the fight, the Fire Crows were naturally defeated!

Finally, the Fire Crow King admitted defeat, cackling as he withdrew westward from the battlefield with the thirty or so remaining Fire Crows.

In order to avoid the disaster that the Fire Crows would bring to the goblin towns, the goblin caravan could only keep chasing after the Fire Crows, and both sides retreated, fighting and retreating all the way away.

The same scenes were also seen in the goblin world.

However, the good thing was that the Goblin Plane was a typical low-magic Plane. Even when the tide of demons came, the environment of the Plane was still so repulsive to magic. Therefore, overly powerful demons or strange monsters didn't even bother to come here, and their targets were more likely to be on those higher planes.

Plus, the original number of demons on the Goblin Plane wouldn't be able to form a scale, much less pose an overly powerful impact on the fully demon-armed Goblins.

Therefore, since the outbreak of the Demon Tide, apart from the sporadic goblin towns that suffered heavy losses due to the attacks of strange monsters, mass casualties were still rare!

However, not all planes were as 'lucky' as the Goblin Planes.

Almost all material planes were facing internal and external attacks due to the onslaught of the magic tide.

The invasion of star beasts, calamitous creatures and strange monsters from the outside, and the onslaught of magical creature trends from within... For a while, all the powers that be and the ruling class were distracted and busy.

Even if they defended themselves tightly, they could not stop the infiltration of the foreign demons, nor could they stop the herd from surging out of the ancient forest. Therefore, some of the incompetent people in power could only choose to give up some of their commoners and territories and focus what little power they had to protect their estates and properties.

As for those abandoned territories and commoners, they could only fend for themselves!

After all, they lacked the protection of supernatural power, and even if just a 1st or 2nd rank demon intruded into them, it could cause them an unimaginably large and terrible disaster.

Among the many small and medium-sized faces, many of the formerly dominant intelligent races had given their enemies the opportunity to rise to power due to their mishandling of the demonic tide. As a result, many of these small and medium sized spheres even broke out into internal revolutions and changed their ruling class.

But no matter how hard they fought to stabilize the environment of the planes, a great upheaval and chaos that swept through all the planes still erupted on all fronts!

Many bit wise people and scholars coincidentally referred to this era of chaos and turmoil as the 'Dark Era'. What made them feel despair and grief was that, according to past experience, this 'Dark Era' might last up to a hundred years....

A hundred years...that's a lifetime for most of the bit creatures!

....................

When the darkness comes, there is pain, and then there is happiness!

At this moment, the happiness of the people living in the Alois region was especially strong.

After the outbreak of the magic tide, rumors of invasions by demons and star beasts were spread one after another all over the central part of the continent. There were even horrifying incidents of entire villages and towns being swallowed up by strange monsters in certain regions.

After hearing such rumors more and more, it only served to highlight the calmness of the Alois region.

This was, after all, the territory of the Crimson Family, and had become the core region in the middle of the Target Continent. As such, there were many more top-tier sorcerers gathered here than elsewhere.

Their presence is usually unobtrusive, but when real distress strikes, it becomes invaluable.
