Chapter 93. Arriving in Burning Sands City
Aiden flapped his crimson wings, gliding through the skies. He was not more than 50 meters from where the corpses lay. He absorbed their blood essence and continued forward.
His crimson sword hovered ahead of him in the sky.
He came across another group. This time, they were legendary rank 1 warriors.
The crimson sword descended and slaughtered then in one go.
He absorbed their blood essence and continued.
He came across several groups of rank 1 bandits lurking in the mountain range.
Aiden killed them all and absorbed their blood essence. His large floating crimson sword would sweep down with lethal precision and kill them all.
The cycle continued for a while.
Several bandits in the mountain range had heard the cries of several bandits in the mountain range.
The cries would cease as soon as they rang across the place.
At first, they deemed it as some sort of conflict between some group of people.
But the screams became consistent.
They realised someone was slaughtering some people.
They all fled the mountain range and returned to Burning Sands City.
Someone even reported seeing something that looked like a crimson sword from afar. The rumor spread across the city. No one knew who was behind this crimson sword. No one also knew how powerful the person was. So, those who frequented the mountain range decided to steer clear of the mountain range for a while.
Because of this, Aiden didn’t come across any more bandits.
But he was not disappointed.
"The plan worked" He thought as he stared at the few mountains ahead of him. After crossing those mountains, he’d arrive in Burning Sands City.
"Even the beginner rank 2 warriors among the bandits fled. Exposing the crimson sword from afar was the right call. It planted a seed of fear into people that led rumors to spread across the mountain range" Aiden thought "Since no one could confirm my presence, or who the person behind the crimson sword is, they all decided to be careful and return to the city. I’m sure by now, rumors have spread in the city. That’s why no one is frequenting the mountain range at the moment"
His range of sight had increased after he absorbed the blood essence of several corpses of people he had killed in the mountain range.
He could see across the place that no bandits were ahead and behind him.
His crimson sword floating ahead of him turned into blobs of blood and returned into him.
Very soon, he crossed the few mountains one needed to cross before they saw the city.
Aiden saw it ahead.
Several castle looking structures loomed ahead.
They were not skyscrapers. But they were not dilapidated either.
"This is nothing like I thought it would be" Aiden thought.
He had been expecting dilapidated buildings and run down building complexes. But that was not the case.
"I guess just because it’s a lawless city doesn’t mean people will just go about destroying buildings. If they do that, where will they sleep?" Aiden thought.
Soon, the city ahead became larger and larger.
His crimson wings turned into blobs of blood and disappeared into him.
He landed outside the city.
He didn’t want to draw any unnecessary attention to himself by flying into the city.
What if a rank 2 warrior saw him and decided to just kill him?
Aiden walked into the city.
When he entered the city, he saw a sign by a sidewalk.
It looked very old and rusty.
The sign read, welcome to the Western District, owned by Crime Lord Habakuk.
"I see" Realization flashed through Aiden’s eyes when he saw the sign.
"This city is also divided into four districts. Northern , eastern, Western and Southern districts huh"
"However, each district is owned by a crime lord. These crime Lords are presumably the legendary rank 2 bosses of the city. It’s safe to say that each crime Lord owns a major crime business in the city. Their crime business is definitely localised in the district they rule over. So, this Crime Lord Habakuk controls the western district of the city. His crime business is definitely centralized in this district, the western district"
"I need to gather more information about this city before I do anything.
I should find someone very weak and question them about the city. After that, I will delete them so that they don’t go around spreading rumors that I’m new here. In a lawless place like this, the best way to get killed is to reveal that you don’t know the environment very well" Aiden thought.
Several people walked past him.
Some of them looked very normal. Others had menacing feels to them.
Someone even stabbed someone she was chatting with and smiling with all of a sudden.
"Seriously, how could you do this?" The one who had been stabbed in the neck clutched his neck as blood spewed out of his neck.
"Tsk. I got a bounty from someone you know to kill you. Apparently, you stole something that belongs to them. No hard feelings junior brother" The one who had killed someone was a woman. The person she had just killed was her brother.
Standing several meters away, Aiden absorbed the blood essence of the corpse of the person the woman had killed.
She put the corpse in a storage bag and walked off.
No one reacted to what had happened. It was as if it was normal here for someone to suddenly kill someone.
Aiden was not shocked.
He just nodded that this place really lived up to its reputation.
"That woman is an expert rank 1 warrior" Aiden thought.
She was the perfect target for finding out more about this place.
Before he came here, he thought because the place was lawless, one could just do anything they wanted. But on arrival, he figured his reasoning had been a bit flawed.
Crime Lords run the districts. This meant that no matter how lawless the districts of the city would be, there were bound to be some buttons he could not push for now.
He needed to know about those things.
Aiden’s eyes turned crimson.
He did not follow the lady.
He just walked calmly in the streets. Using his enhanced vision, he was able to track her route.
The woman entered an alley.
"Perfect place to find out about this place without giving it away that I’m new here"
Aiden’s blood appeared before him and turned into very tiny crimson threads.
The tiny crimson threads shot towards the alleyway the woman was in.
The crimson threads wrapped themselves around the woman’s neck.
Her eyes bulged. She felt very suffocated. The threads were so tiny that she found it difficult to see them. But she knew something had wrapped itself around her neck. Someone was trying to kill her.
She manifested ice around her neck to deal with the crimson threads. But the crimson threads held.
Aiden walked calmly towards the alleyway, where the woman was choking on the ground.
The moment she saw him, she was terrified. Who was this crimson eyed bastard? Was he the one trying to kill her?
"Can you tell me about the buttons not to push around here?" Aiden said politely. But the woman felt a chill crawl up her spine.
