It was Nyx that stepped out of the door first. The cold and aloof woman up close, looked beautiful especially paired with the elegant dark dress she was wearing.
The cold underworld queenpin with unimaginable power. The same woman who could make countless people tremble with both awe and fear from nothing more than a single look.
Yet now...
Alex’s eyes immediately fell toward her stomach. It was still completely flat with no visible bump. Of course there wasn’t, after all it had only been a month or so.
But even then, this normally cold and aloof woman actually did something surprising that could make all who knew her wonder whether the sun was rising from the west.
She placed her hand gently against her stomach and caressed it softly with a gentle look in her normally sharp amber eyes. The warm sight made Alex’s heart almost stop.
Nyx took another step forward, then she looked up, causing her amber eyes to meet directly with Alex’s forest green eyes that still had faint traces of tears.
Both of them froze like deers in headlights. And Nyx’s beautiful eyes even trembled.after seeing him. For the first time in a while, genuine surprise appeared on her usually emotionless face.
Alex couldn’t move or speak. All he could do was to simply stare at her like a stone statue, with Nyx staring right back at him. Then Alex’s gaze slowly moved from her eyes... To the hand still resting gently against her flat stomach that carried their child.
When Nyx noticed where he was looking, her expression changed. And the suprise that had been on her face slowly disappeared.
The softness in her eyes vanished and then her beautiful amber eyes gradually became cold like a thick winter blizzard.
"How long have you been standing there?" Her cold voice rang out, finally breaking the thick silence.
Alex’s lips parted slightly.
"I..." He swallowed, causing Nyx’s eyes to narrow slightly.
"You what?"
Alex hesitated for another second before finally admitting the truth.
"Long enough to hear everything."
The atmosphere immediately became completely silent after he said this. Nyx stared at him as he swallowed again before continuing.
"Everything the doctor just said right now. I heard everything. From the pregnancy, to how far off you are in the pregnancy, to the diet and exercise... Everything."
Nyx’s expression remained cold and unreadable, making him suddenly feel incredibly nervous for no reason.
He had faced countless dangerous situations since his rebirth. He had fought Awakeneds, a powerful gang, and hell, even dangerous monstrosities from the Training Realm.
Yet someway somehow, just standing in front of Nyx while waiting for her reaction felt far more terrifying. For several seconds, neither of them said anything.
Then Nyx’s eyes suddenly shifted slightly, and she noticed something quickly. There were still faint traces of tears lingering in the corner of Alex’s eyes.
"Do you care to explain why you were crying?"
Alex instantly froze. "Huh?"
"Your eyes. They are wet with traces of tears."
Alex quickly raised the back of his hand and wiped his face. Only then did he realize that he had actually been crying. His cheeks became slightly red with embarrassment.
"Ah... This?" He quickly looked away. "It’s nothing, just a little dust that got into my eyes."
Nyx continued staring at him, already knowing that it was most definitely because of finding out about the baby.
Alex, meanwhile, coughed awkwardly before deliberately shifting his attention toward her flat stomach.
"So..." His voice suddenly dropped down and became much softer. "You’re really pregnant?"
"Yes." Nyx quickly answered coldly.
That simple confirmation from her caused his eyes to turn slightly red again. Then for a moment, he simply stared intently at her before suddenly bursting out into a laugh.
Nyx’s eyebrows moved slightly and Alex’s smile became even wider and wider by the passing second as he said.
"I am going to be a father."
His voice carried an indescribable feeling of happiness that made even the cold underworld queenpin’s icy face show the slightest crack. Alex looked directly into her beautiful amber eyes, with his face filled with genuine joy.
"I’m actually going to be a father."
The words came out again, almost as if he needed to hear himself say them.
"I still can’t believe that I’m really about to become a father."
Before Nyx could even react, Alex suddenly stepped forward and wrapped both arms around her, engaging her in a big hug. Nyx’s entire body immediately stiffened the instance she found herself inside his embrace.
Her eyes slightly widened in shock but Alex didn’t really care. For the first time since learning the truth, he allowed himself to fully embrace the happiness filling his heart.
He slowly tightened his arms around her, causing Nyx’s expression to slowly become strange.
"Alex."
He didn’t respond, because of how far lost he was in the hug. She called out once more.
"Alex."
But still nothing. Nyx finally frowned and said.
"You are suffocating me."
Alex’s eyes widened and he immediately released her while hurriedly taking several steps backward with an apologetic face.
"Sorry! Sorry!"
Nyx calmly adjusted her dress and muttered. "I’m fine."
Alex breathed a big sigh of relief before scratching the back of his head awkwardly.
"Right. I forgot that you’re a normal human."
Nyx gave him a flat look that made Alex cough after that.
"Still, I got a little excited."
"A little?"
"Well... Okay. Maybe more than a little." Alex said apologetically before giving out a grin. "But can you blame me? I’m going to be a father."
Nyx’s face twitched slightly but she didn’t say anything. Just then, a faint voice came from inside the gynecology room.
"Shhh."
It sounded like Doris. Alex hearing immediately picked up her voice.
"I think it’s best if we should probably stay here and not interrupt them."
There was a short pause, before Jade’s voice quickly followed.
"Yes. I agree."
Alex’s eyebrow rose and he glanced toward the closed door. These two were actually listening all this while?
Nyx seemed to have heard them as well, and her face became slightly darker. "Those two..."
Alex couldn’t help chuckling.
"They’re probably just curious."
Nyx ignored his comment and looked back at him, before asking.
"Why are you here in the hospital? Because you don’t look anything close to being injured, to me."
Nyx’s eyes briefly moved over his body.
"Besides, even if you were injured, which I doubt with so few Awakeneds in the same Realm as you, your healing ability should be just about enough to handle it."
Alex rubbed the back of his head. He knew that there was no point hiding anything from Nyx, because trying to hide something from her was practically a child’s dream.
"Well, it’s actually a long story." Alex sighed. "The reason I’m here is because you know Andre, right? His daughter and her friend almost got kidnapped by a bunch of thugs."
Nyx’s amber eyes narrowed slightly.
"Andre’s daughter?"
"Yeah." Alex nodded. "She was with her friend when I happened to find them. The thugs had already surrounded them, and her friend got injured."
Then remembering something, Alex suddenly raised both hands and hurriedly said.
"But just in case you’re misunderstanding anything, I don’t have any sort of interest in them, since they’re still high schoolers. Besides..." Alex suddenly hesitated before adding honestly, "You are way more beautiful anyway."
Nyx didn’t say anything for a couple of seconds, she just stared back at Alex honest eyes for a while, before finally replying calmly.
"Mmm."
Alex blinked.
"That’s it?"
"Mmm."
Alex’s mouth twitched. "Okay."
After that the air immediately became awkwardly quiet. Alex stood besides Nyx without knowing what else to say. And Nyx also remained perfectly silent, with her hand unconsciously resting gently over her stomach.
Neither of them seemed willing to break the strange silence. And thankfully, they didn’t have to. The door behind them suddenly opened.
Then the female doctor stepped out and immediately noticed the extremely handsome young man, with a face so beautiful it surpassed that of any model or celebrity on TV, standing besides Nyx like a couple.
Her bright eyes briefly moved between the two of them before she finally broke into a smile.
"Sorry, mister for asking this question, but are you by any chance her husband or boyfriend?"
Alex. Immediately nodded.
"Yes I am."
Nyx’s eyes shifted toward him but she didn’t say anything. The doctor didn’t even seem to notice the slight change in Nyx’s expression. Instead, her own eyes lit up.
"Oh, that’s wonderful." The doctor said, smiling warmly. "Since you are her partner, I should remind you that the first few months are very important for both the mother and the child. She needs plenty of rest, and you should make sure she doesn’t put herself under any sort of unnecessary stress."
Alex nodded seriously.
"Of course."
"Good. You should also make sure she eats properly and take care of herself. Emotional support is also important as well. Also before I forget, please can you hold off on having any sexual activity with her for now. Since this is still the delicate period of the pregnancy."
Alex nodded again.
"Yes I can, don’t worry doc."
The doctor smiled.
"Good. Congratulations to both of you."
Alex’s face brightened once more and he said with gratitude.
"Thank you."
The doctor gave them both one final smile before leaving.

Some time later, Alex was driving his Lamborghini through the city streets. He had already dropped Lily and Jessica off at their homes before leaving them. Now, as he drove his mind kept returning back to Nyx.
He had been so shocked by the pregnancy that he hadn’t even thought properly about what he should do next.
Tomorrow, come rain or shine, he would visit her. After all, he needed to take very good care of her. Not that Nyx was incapable of taking care of herself. She was an incredibly wealthy and powerful woman so there were probably few people in the entire city who could actually threaten her.
Still, that didn’t change the fact that she was carrying his child.
His child. Every time Alex thought about those words, he couldn’t stop himself from smiling.
"I still can’t believe I’m going to really be a father..." He muttered quietly to himself.
His smile soon faded into a thoughtful expression.
"What should I even buy for her?"
Alex had never experienced anything like this before. In his previous life, he had truly believed he was a father for fifteen years, only to discover that the children were all Zack’s own.
But now, after being given a second chance at life, he had finally been given something that was truly his. A child of his own. A child with the most beautiful and powerful woman in the city.
Alex tightened his grip on the steering wheel almost crushing it unintentionally.
"I can’t exactly show up tomorrow all empty handed."
He began thinking what he should buy
Maybe some food?
No Nyx had enough money to buy anything she wanted. Perhaps something useful for the baby, then?
But it was still far too early. Alex frowned.
"Then what am I supposed to get?"
He continued thinking about it as the Lamborghini moved steadily down the road. Maybe he should ask the system later, after all, no matter how playful she was, she still gave really good advice.
The thought had barely crossed his mind when... Alex’s entire body froze as an intense sense of danger suddenly swept through him.
Something was wrong. Very wrong. At that exact moment, the temperature everywhere suddenly began to plummet so much that his exhales brought white mist.
