Chapter 179
Alex’s eyes narrowed in suspicion as he stared at the tiny chibi floating beside his head with a mischievous smile on her cute but annoying face.
’You definitely know something. C’mon spill it?’
The chibi immediately looked away and drawed out.
[Nope]
’I know you know something so don’t try to hide it.’
[I know a lot of things. After all, I am a high level cheat system, remember?]
’Then can you just tell me what you know about Nyx, Doris, and Jade being here.’
The chibi suddenly became extremely interested in the passing scenery outside the hospital, clearly trying to avoid the topic.
[Alex, don’t you think the weather looks really nice today?]
Alex’s eyebrow twitched.
’You can’t be serious.’
[I’m always serious... Okay maybe not everytime, but now I’m super serious]
’You literally just told me that I would find out soon.’

Alex stared at her for several more seconds before sighing and flattering her.
’Can’t the all powerful system just help her pitiful host out for once and tell me what she knows? I’ll even buy your favourite snacks.’
The chibi finally looked back at him and thought for a second before pulling a cheeky little grin.
[As tempting as that sounds, oh pitiful host, I’m sorry but I’ll have to decline even though it’s going to hurt my heart]
’Why not?’
[Because it’s better if you find out yourself]
Alex’s expression became slightly darker.
’You’re obviously enjoying this, aren’t you?’
[Uh duh!]
’You little gremlin!’
[Hehehe]
Alex sighed inwardly. There was absolutely no point in continuing this conversation. He already knew the system well enough to understand that once she decided not to reveal anything, forcing information from her mouth was practically useless.
She would probably spend the next thirty minutes making fun of him while refusing to give him a single useful answer.
’Fine. I will find out for myself.’
The chibi blinked before saying cheekily.
[See? My host is finally learning]
’Don’t get too excited.’
[Too late!]
Alex was just about to turn around and follow after Nyx and the others when a familiar voice suddenly reached his ears.
’Alex?’
He froze hearing his name, then his eyes slowly shifted to the side where Lily was standing a few meters away from him with a slightly confused expression on her beautiful face. Jessica, her best friend, was standing beside her, still occasionally touching the swollen side of her cheek.
Lily tilted her head and asked softly.
"Is something wrong? You’ve been standing there for quite some time now."
Alex blinked. Oh right. He was still with Lily and Jessica. He had almost forgotten about them while focusing on Nyx’s group.
Shit! Alex glanced toward the hospital entrance where Nyx, Doris, and Jade had just disappeared. If he wanted he could follow them almost immediately.
However, he couldn’t exactly abandon Lily and Jessica after bringing them all the way here. Jessica was injured, and Lily was just a young girl, so she was still visibly shaken from the kidnapping attempt.
Besides, there was no need to rush. With his super hearing, as long as they remained inside the hospital, there was practically no chance of him losing track of them.
’Sigh. I guess I’ll deal with this first.’
Alex turned toward Lily and smiled.
"Sorry. I was just thinking about something else."
"Oh." Lily nodded. She didn’t seem completely convinced, but she didn’t question him further. Alex then glanced toward Jessica.
"Come on. Let’s go get your friend checked first."
Jessica immediately waved her hand.
"Really, handsome, I’m fine, see."
"You’re not. C’mon you were just slapped hard enough to bleed. It’s best we see a doctor just in case."
"Well..." Jessica touched the side of her cheek. "Okay, when you put it like that, maybe I should see a doctor."
Alex couldn’t help but sigh.
"That’s what I’ve been saying. Now let’s go there."
The three of them soon entered the hospital. After asking for directions, Alex and the two girls eventually arrived at a doctor’s office.
Jessica sat comfortably on the examination bed while a young female doctor with brunette hair and professional face, carefully examined the side of her face.
Alex stood nearby with his arms crossed, while Lily sat quietly beside him. She would occasionally glance toward him whenever she thought he wasn’t looking.
But every single time his gaze shifted in her direction, she would immediately look away, pretending as if she was staring at her friend.
Alex had already noticed her tiny movements but he didn’t say anything about it. The doctor carefully examined Jessica’s cheek one more time before finally nodding.
"Thankfully, there’s no serious damage."
Jessica sighed in relief.
"Really?"
"Yes. The swelling should go down naturally over the next few days. However, I’ll prescribe something to help reduce the inflammation and swelling."
The doctor quickly wrote something down before handing the prescription to Jessica.
"Take it according to the instructions I’ve just written down. If the pain becomes worse or you notice anything unusual, come back immediately."
Jessica nodded. "Thank you, doc."
"You’re welcome."
The girls thanked the doctor once more before leaving the room. Alex followed behind them. The moment they stepped into the hallway, Alex glanced toward the hospital entrance. Nyx’s group was nowhere to be seen.
Perfect. Alex looked at Lily and Jessica.
"You guys go on and wait by the car for a moment, I’ll soon come."
Jessica raised an eyebrow and asked.
"Why?"
"I’m going to drop both of you home."
Lily immediately shook her head.
"That’s really not necessary. You’ve already helped us enough."
Alex gave her a flat look.
"You were almost kidnapped.*
Lily became silent. Alex then glanced at Jessica.
"And your cheek is still swollen. Besides I brought you guys here, so I can’t just leave you to go back by yourselves at this time. It’ll be best if I drop you off."
Jessica opened her mouth. "But..."
"No buts. I will drop you girls off."
Jessica immediately closed her mouth, making Alex nod in satisfaction.
"Good."
Lily couldn’t help but smile slightly. Alex continued.
"Both of you wait by the car. I will be there shortly."
Lily blinked and asked softly.
"Whare are you going to?"
"I just want to see an old friend. It wouldn’t take much time."
Jessica’s eyes suddenly lit up with curiosity.
"An old friend?"
Alex nodded. "Yeah."
"Is she pretty?"
Alex nearly coughed. Lily immediately looked at Jessica and yelled softly.
"Jessica!"
"What?" Jessica said, innocently raising her both hands. "I’m just asking."
Alex rubbed his forehead. "This girl..."
Jessica grinned.
"Fine, fine. We’ll wait by the car."
"Good." Alex nodded. Lily followed Jessica toward the exit, but before leaving, she suddenly turned around and looked at Alex. For some reason, she felt reluctant to leave him.
Alex smiled at her and said again.
"I’ll be back soon."
"Okay." Then she followed Jessica. Alex waited until both girls were completely out of sight, before his face immediately changed. The playful smile on his face vanished and his eyes became sharper.
"Now..." Alex muttered then closed his eyes. His enhanced hearing instantly expanded and the world tens of meters around him suddenly became incredibly clear. He could hear hundred of different sounds all at once.
From the footsteps of nurses in the right wing to the beeping of medical equipment, the murmuring voices of patients and even the small sound of someone coughing several rooms away.
Alex ignored all of it and continued to focus, searching for the familiar voice of either Nyx, Doris or Jade. His attention moved deeper into the hospital before he finally heard what he was looking for.
"Really?"
Alex’s eyes snapped open. That voice! It was Doris’s own.
"That’s great news."
Alex immediately turned his head. The voice had come from somewhere deeper inside the massive building.
’What the hell are they doing over there?’
Without wasting another second, Alex began walking toward that direction. Though his steps were calm and his face remained completely normal, inside his curiosity was growing rapidly the further he walked, the more his expression changed.
Eventually, he arrived at a quieter section of the hospital, and moved his gaze toward the sign hanging above a door, which read GYNAECOLOGY.
Alex stopped with his entire body freezing almost immediately from shock. For what felt like several seconds, all he did was to simply stare at the sign. His brain refused to process what it meant.
Then his eyes widened slightly as he thought of something.
"Could it be..." Alex swallowed. "Could it actually be what I’m thinking?"
His heart suddenly began to beat faster and faster with each passing second. He didn’t know why. There were countless other reasons why Nyx could be visiting a gynecologist.
The possibilities were countless. Like for example, maybe it was just a routine examination, or maybe Doris or Jade had some kind of medical appointment.
Maybe....
Alex suddenly heard a female voice from behind the door saying.
"The first three months are incredibly delicate, so you need to avoid any and all unnecessary stress. After all, you are now going to be a mother, Miss Nyx."
Alex felt like he had just been struck by lightning. The doctor continued.
"It’s a good thing the first month has gone by without any issue. So make sure you’re getting enough rest. You should also exercise moderately and maintain a healthy diet. Food rich in protein, iron, calcium and Omega-3 fatty acids are especially important."
Alex’s eyes widened and his heart seemed to stop. Just then Nyx’s calm and unmistakable voice rang out.
"Okay."
"...Pregnant?" The word escaped his mouth in a barely audible whisper. He continued staring at the door and repeated again. "Pregnant..." Before his brain finally began connecting the pieces. His heart began beating even faster than before.
"Nyx is pregnant..." His mind went completely blank once more as the weight of those words settled down. He couldn’t even think properly.
For some reason, his first thought wasn’t about the hospital, or the doctor, or even about Nyx herself. It was about the future.
A child. And not just any child but his child? Alex’s breathing suddenly became heavier. He had never imagined himself becoming a father again. Not after everything that had happened in his previous life.
His slut of an ex wife has betrayed him with his ex bestfriend. She had given him a massive green hat. And worse still, she had made him spend so long raising another man’s children without ever knowing the truth until the day he died.
He had loved those kids with his life. He had protected and sacrificed countless things for them, making sure they never lack even one bit. Only to eventually discover that they weren’t even his flesh and blood.
The cold hearted betrayal had destroyed something deep inside him. And now... The thought of Nyx carrying his child suddenly felt completely different. This was his own flesh and blood. His actual child. A child that belonged solely to him and Nyx.
Alex’s mind was in complete chaos. He didn’t even realize when tears started streaming out of his eyes as a choked sob left his lips. Finally, he had his own child!
He was so lost in thought that he didn’t notice the footsteps approaching the door, or hear the voices of the women inside becoming closer.
Just then the door suddenly slammed open, causing Alex’s head to snap upward and his blurry eyes filled with tears widened as soon as he saw who it was...
