Chapter 205: THE CONFRONTATION IN THE MORNING
Kayden looked back and forth between Seara and the former Gamma Javen. As a warrior, he was greatly outranked, and he should have followed his orders unless he was told otherwise.
Yet, when he was about to stand up, Seara spoke.
"Stay." Seara ate her bread slowly, because she didn’t want to appear as if she was panicking. "I don’t tell you to leave."
Kayden sat down again and looked at the former gamma. "I can’t follow the order."
Javen pressed his lips; he was indignant. It had been so long since he received this attitude from Seara. When she was young, she used to act tough and deny orders.
But Javen straightened her up, and she became more obedient. But now, after more than a year that she was out, her stubborn streak returned. She needed to be disciplined again.
"Stand up and follow me, Seara," Javen said. He used the same tone as he did when she was a teenager, and Seara would follow him without question.
Therefore, when he walked away and realized Seara was still sitting down, he was fuming.
"What are you doing? I told you to come with me." Javen looked back and saw Seara was still eating her bread slowly. She didn’t even look at him. "Are you being rebellious right now?"
Still, Seara didn’t say anything, and it was Kayden who finally spoke up. "Former Gamma Javen, I think it is not appropriate to rush her when she doesn’t want to go with you."
"I don’t speak to you, warrior. Zip it, unless you are talking to." Javen’s menacing glare was directed at Kayden as Kayden held his gaze for a few seconds longer before he continued eating, ignoring him as well, just like Seara did.
Seeing this, Javen was fuming; he walked back and took Seara by her elbow as he yanked her up.
Thankfully, Kayden saw that coming; he grabbed Javen’s hand in a crushing grip. "Let go of her. Do you know who she is?" This time, Kayden didn’t back down when their eyes met.
"She is my daughter."
Seara shook Javen’s grip from her elbow and glared at him. "I am not your daughter; refrain yourself from claiming me as one of your children."
"Fine, you are my adoptive child; now get up and don’t make a fuss. I have something important to talk to you about."
However, when Javen wanted to grab her hand again, Seara swatted it away.
"I said, I am not going anywhere with you." Seara glared at him viciously, but Javen didn’t seem to get the rejection, since Seara used to oblige his orders.
This time he started to raise his voice. "Get up now. Stop embarrassing yourself."
Seara pressed her lips tightly and glared at him. "Take him away from me. I don’t want him to disturb my breakfast," she said to Kayden.
And with that order, Kayden had a reason to go against Javen, despite Javen’s rank being higher than his. Without a second thought, he was about to escort the former gamma out of the dining hall, but Silas stopped him.
"Get off your hands from him, warrior, or else you are going to regret that." Silas approached his father, but his eyes fixed on Seara.
Hearing Silas threatened Kayden, it brought back all the ugly memories from her early childhood to the front of her mind.
This time, Seara stood up. The adrenaline rushed to her ears, and she could feel her palms getting clammy, but she was thankful her voice was even enough to get the word out.
"Take your father away from here, Silas, and leave me alone," Seara said sternly. She was grateful; her voice didn’t reveal how scared she was. Her ears rang, and she had to stop herself from wiping off the sweat from her palms.
Silas and Javen looked so stunned by how bold Seara was. They didn’t expect her to act like this.
"Does being the king’s mate make your head big?" Javen took a step closer; he meant to intimidate Seara with the proximity, but Kayen stepped in between them, and Silas pulled his father back.
"Let’s go back, Dad. We can’t make a commotion here." Silas held his father’s elbow in a tight grip, though occasionally his eyes would go back to focus on Seara. "Dad," Silas said sternly.
Thankfully, Javen listened to his son and moved away; both of them went back to their table, where Tansy was staring at Seara and Kayden for causing a ruckus and attracted unnecessary attention from the other people.
"I am full," Seara said as she walked out of the room. She left her food half-eaten because she could no longer hold back the tension; she could only last for that long, standing up for herself. "Take me to my bedroom."
Meanwhile, Kayden followed behind her. He threw a glance at that family of three, and they were staring at Seara until she disappeared behind the door.
Only when she was already in her room did she finally crouch down and cover her ears, pressing her sweaty palms against the side of her head, which made Kayden worried. He immediately crouched down next to her too.
"What happened? Are you in pain?"
Seara shook her head, while Kayden tried to figure out what actually happened to Seara right now, but she didn’t want to tell him.
Therefore, Kayden could only stay there, waiting for her to calm down.
"I don’t think you can handle the morning meeting." Kayden looked at Seara with a pitiful look. "I will tell King Asher that you will need some time to recover." He glanced at the time, and it was only five minutes away before the meeting.
"No. I will go." Seara clutched her chest as she stood up. She was going to attend the meeting no matter what. Even if she had to sit still and dread every second she was there.
There were a lot of people that she had to meet to be sure the people around Asher were clear.
