Chapter 33: A change of heart?

He needed to take matters into his own hands. And not like before where he only sought the aid of external power.

".....I refuse to let anyone decide what happens to me again."

" I need to increase my own power...." Osborne said to himself, his features creased into a look of burning hatred.

He vowed in his heart that while he sought it, he would never pass up an opportunity to bring house Roosevelt to ruin.

While he was calmer now, it didn’t mean that inside he wasn’t burning with turbulent emotions, but because he knew he couldn’t continue on like this.

Thinking back to how Guinevere and Clawdeth had been able to beat him with ease.

He knew it wasn’t due to their skill alone, but the fact they were awakened.

In this Webnovel world, there were two ways for one to grow in power.

One being a mage or an aura user.

Guinevere and Clawdeth were naturally the latter and not the former. Due to their incredible physical prowess.

Alas, while he knew about this, he still didn’t know how to awaken as an aura user.

Since the protagonist was supposed to be a prodigy, there wasn’t a need for much descriptions.

Although one did offer descriptions.

’ To awaken as a mage, one must first learn to sense the mana in their surroundings.... That’s all the book said.’

’ But how do I sense something I’ve never sensed before?’ Osborne used a hand to cover his face in frustration.

It would be easier to learn both methods with the aid of someone who already has, but who could he rely on?

He had no one capable of such.

His family did have aura users but going back there would only worry them, moreover, he wasn’t exactly sure they’d even let him out of the estate after everything that had happened so far.

He wiped the tears and snot from his face.

’ First let’s get out of this place.’ Osborne opened his hand and the dagger emerged once more.

He grabbed it with both hands and positioned it towards his chest.

"...."

The dagger pierced down only for him to stop at the last moment.

Staring at the dagger inches away from his chest, Osborne felt dissatisfied.

Was this really it, he thought to himself, didn’t he just say he would get stronger and make them pay?

So why was he trying to escape this place with the same pathetic method.

Throwing his life away for a chance to return to that darn place and continue to suffer?

Osborne gradually moved the dagger away from his heart, holding it in one hand instead.

Still gnashing his teeth, he grabbed a huge lock of grass before cutting it off with the dagger.

He continued to do this over and over again until he’d cleared a circular space around him about 2 meter in radius.

Staring at what he’d done, he felt even more eager to continue.

He was done running, this time around he would face those darn devils for good, but unlike before, he refused to fall into their ploy.

Because this time, he would make sure they played by his rules instead.

CRACK~

Osborne heard the same nightmarish sound that haunted him but this time, he didn’t panic.

Instead reaching into the grass he held with his bare hands.

Before the rabbit could break out of its stone shell, he grabbed it and pulled it into the open space he created.

Before pressing it down on the ground beneath him.

The stone covering quickly fell off on contact.

But before it completely did, he used his dagger and vengefully stabbed through the monster using the exposed parts.

Still unsatisfied, he dragged the bloodied dagger, cleaving the murderous rabbit in twine.

Spilling it’s entrails and blood across the floor.

With his dagger dripping with blood, he continued to expand the clearing he made, each time he came upon a rabbit statue, he would kill it before it fully emerged.

The more rabbits he killed, the more eager he became, pushing him to clear away more and more grass.

Time slowly ticked by and the clearing he made was drenched in rabbit blood.

The helpless monsters, unable to fight back, could only die one by one.

Osborne didn’t even let them utter a sound, his past experiences already thought him more than enough about such situations.

Eventually, Osborne got tired.

" Grrrrrrr~" his stomach gurgled lightly from hunger.

He’d been killing them non stop that he hadn’t eaten in awhile.

He wasn’t even sure how long he’d been inside the nightmare world, but he knew this had to be the longest.

" Grrrrrr~" his stomach growled again.

Crack~

Crack~

.....

Osborne’s face creased when he heard the sound of cracking stones Infront of him..

To think his own hunger would turn against him.

Reacting quickly, he reached into the grass and pulled out the cracking monsters, tossing all three of them into the clearing.

Then stabbing all three of them before they could get up on their feet.

He stared at the dead rabbits he just killed, his expression dark.

With no other choice, and fear of putting himself into more unnecessary danger.

He picked up one of the corpses of the murderous rabbits he just killed, with one hand and used dagger to gradually peel off it’s skin.

After removing the skin, he gutted it and dug out all its organs.

With trembling hands, he brought the raw flesh to his mouth, before taking a bite.

He instantly began feeling nauseous, the taste of iron rich in his mouth.

But knowing that he couldn’t survive any other way, he took bite after bite after bite, forcing himself to swallow the raw flesh.

" BLUERGH~" But at a point, his stomach couldn’t take it, pushing him to puke out the entire thing.

He vomited even the little stuff he still had inside.

Eventually he stopped, staring at his trembling hand with an uncomfortable look on his face.

’ What am I doing....’ he said to himself, ’ Am I really going to starve to death?’
