Chapter 319: Morgana’s Past (3)
" While Adrian was born a normal boy, his body at least, Adriana was different, she was born with both of our abilities.
I can not explain how that was possible as witches cannot use Espara ability and Espara cannot use witch magic.
But she was both, she was born with the eyes of Adam like all Lunar clan members and could also learn witch magic."
" Oh, little Adriana was that impressive?" Annie asked.
" Yes, both me and her father knew she would surpass both of us one day but her birth created a problem.
Due to her inborn strength, she weakened me severely and somehow awakened something in her brother.
From their father’s explanation it felt like a soul, an old and powerful soul so we came up with two theories.
One, something was possessing our child and reacted to Adriana, two, Adrian was a reincarnation of an old being.
Both sounded incomprehensible, after all, he was merely a normal boy without any magic or abilities.
But then again no more than 12 thousand years ago, he drew the attention of the Axiom." Meggie explained.
" By the way, I’m still not clear on what the Axiom are, I’ve heard much about them but I don’t know what they are." Said Annie.
" To be honest, neither do I but from rumours, they’re considered fallen champions from the past." Answered Meggie.
’ Thinking back, one of the Axiom I met might’ve been Adam and the other Thor, I think that theory is true.’ she thought to herself but didn’t tell Annie.
" Anyways, we knew there was nothing we could do about it but wait and pray that nothing happens to him.
However we weren’t given that chance, we had moved to a small house in the human world and sealed our powers.
We were in hiding and that was about to end and we knew it. 12 thousand years ago, the Axiom had marked me.
To hide from them, I learnt a spell from the Nameless demon to split my own soul and create body doubles.
This spell only works for those who have mastered multiple magic from the other covenants.
How many soul fragments depended on how many covenant magic you’ve learnt, I had learnt from all nine.
This spell also takes memories of all magic related to that covenant. 12 thousand years ago when I learnt the spell.
I removed a part of my soul along with memories of all spirit magic and the Nameless demon took it.
This fragment also contained the mark of the Axiom, I thought I was safe but I was wrong. When Adriana was born.
My soul became too weak, the residues of the mark activated exposing my location to them.
Running never would’ve helped and I was left with one option. I split myself into eight more fragments.
Each containing knowledge of each type of covenant magic, one of those fragments was Margaret."
" Adrian’s mother?" Annie asked, she had always wondered what the deal was there when she figured out Meggie’s was Adrian’s mother.
She thought they were the same person but she did not consider this possibility, she thought Margaret had faked her death.
" I see, but why didn’t Adrian remember you, he should’ve been nine by then no?" She asked.
She grew up with Adrian and only remembered Margaret as well, fitting Meggie into those memories was impossible.
" That was their father’s doing, the mark latched not just into my soul but memories as well.
As long I knew Adrian or Adriana were my children, I would never be able to keep them safe.
I couldn’t fight my enemies, the Axiom were and in a sense still are limited in their actions but they weren’t alone.
Disregarding their subordinates like the wraiths or Rendersol, the rest of the world also saw Adrian as a threat.
The word of the Axiom holds too much power. After splitting myself I altered my memories.
Those memories were only to return when I reabsorbed any of my fragments and I chose Margaret to be their mother."
" Wait that doesn’t make sense, if Margaret was also you then wouldn’t she remembering them as her children be bad?" Annie asked.
" The fragments are exactly me, they are a part of me. Originally I was an alchemy witch, that’s my original soul and memories.
But even if that wasn’t the case it still would’ve been fine, remember I told you, their father is the reason they didn’t remember me but Margaret.
I only altered my own memories, their father exhausted his power and cut the strings of karma across space time."
Annie raised her eyebrow, " Huh, how is that possible?" She asked, she couldn’t comprehend such an ability.
" That’s the power of the Adam’s eye once it reaches a new level of power, it can do wondrous things.
When he cut those strings he erased all connections we had to them, then reconstructed them around Margaret.
By doing this he changed the memories of the world itself, even if somebody looked into the past.
They would only see the illusion he crafted and not the truth, of course with the memories of the world changed.
So did the memories of everybody, that’s why you couldn’t remember me. As a result he was punished though.
Heaven sent him to join the hell guards, a group of warriors task to prevent powerful demons who escape hell from reaching the mortal world."
" I see, it’s a lot to take in but basically, you changed everybody’s memories to protect your children?" Annie asked.
Meggie nodded, " I suppose that’s a simpler way to put it, yes but it’s not permanent, after Margaret’s death, the strings of karma attached back to me.
At first I thought she had put a curse on me to love her children like my own so I would protect them.
But all I was feeling were my feelings I had shoved deep inside me, soon after, the fragment that was Margaret returned.
I regained a lot of my memories after and as a result I was forced to leave him again and as you know.
I haven’t been able to spend too much time next to him, the more time we spend next to each other, the more active the residues of the mark got.
Still, I was able to at least get close but now, the mark itself has returned along with my last fragment.
As such, I can’t even get within a hundred kilometres without it activating, in fact I can’t even leave this hut." Meggie sighed sadly.
" Are you that afraid of the Axiom?" Annie asked, from what she’s read about Morgana, she should be one of the most powerful beings in the world.
Meggie looked at her, " If there’s anybody you should fear, it’s them, never forget that." She warned Annie.
