Chapter 163: Before We Leave Neverland
Levi walked at the front. Lucy stayed on his right. Vespera on his left. Serakel, Isha, and the Reverend Mother Superior followed in a quiet line.
None of them spoke of the Demon of Grief. The words she had left still sat between them, but the work of the claim had not paused for grief.
’She said what she came to say. The rest is theirs. The land is mine.’
They passed the cavern of the five Bound Remnants. The ash-haired figures still stood in the central depression where he had left them.
Gold-rimmed black eyes tracked the group as they crossed the space. No words were exchanged. The remnants simply watched until the far tunnel swallowed the light again.
Further up they passed the pale platform where the first pre-witch entity remained. She sat in the same place, liquid shadow hair still, gold rim steady in her black eyes.
She inclined her head a fraction as Levi passed. He gave no order. None was needed.
The higher tunnels widened. The air grew less heavy. By the time they reached the outer ledges of the ravine where the stone-and-sinew creatures had first risen, the black mist was gone completely.
The path along the wall stood clear under ordinary darkness and the soft gold of the domain.
Nima and the chariot waited on the same cracked ledge where they had left her. The four slime-headed horses lifted their heads as the group emerged.
Blue vapor drifted from their nostrils. Nima dropped to one knee the moment she saw Levi.
"Master. The light changed through every layer. Even here."
"Rise," Levi said. "We return to the upper territories."
They boarded the chariot in the same arrangement as before. Levi in the center. Lucy on his right. Vespera on his left.
The other three across from them. Nima took the reins and guided the horses upward out of the ravine.
The outer dark fell away beneath them. The chariot turned toward the claimed regions that had once belonged to the witches.
Bone swamps. Northern convents. Slime domains. Holy halls. The Heart of Chains itself pulsed somewhere in the distance with the same steady gold.
For a long stretch no one spoke. The only sounds were the low roar of the blue light under the chariot and the wind of their passage.
Lucy broke the silence first. Her voice was even. "She knew each of us."
Vespera answered without looking away from the horizon. "She had been listening longer than any of the witches existed."
Serakel’s third eye remained half open. "The grief she named is real. It does not change the claim."
Isha’s slime shifted once along her forearm and settled. "We set those pieces down to follow. We can decide later whether to pick them back up."
The Reverend Mother Superior spoke last, quiet and clear. "The mark does not require us to be empty. Only loyal."
Levi listened without interrupting. His hand rested on Lucy’s thigh. The other rested on Vespera’s. The Sovereign Sigil pulsed in slow, powerful rhythm under his robe.
’They will carry it or they will set it down again. Either way they remain mine. The land remains mine.’
The chariot crossed the boundary from the outer dark into the middle territories. Familiar broken stone and black water passed below.
The restless dead of the bone swamps stood quiet under the gold pulse. No green light remained. No white chains moved without order.
Nima guided them toward a high plateau of flat black stone that overlooked several of the claimed regions at once. She set the chariot down. The horses settled. The group stepped out onto the plateau.
From this height the changes were clear. Gold light threaded through the distant Heart of Chains.
The northern reaches carried the same quiet glow. The swamps and the lower courts answered in kind.
Neverland no longer felt like a collection of separate domains. It felt like a single territory under one mark.
Levi stood at the edge of the plateau and looked out across it.
[Domain Status: Neverland – Full Authority Confirmed]
[Origin Layer: Stable]
[All Primary and Secondary Authorities: Subjugated]
[Exit Gate: Still Open]
Lucy moved up on his right. "The surface gate remains open. Aethermoor is still waiting on the other side."
Vespera joined them. "The higher realms will have felt the origin fall. Some will send eyes. Some may send more than eyes."
Serakel’s voice was practical. "We can hold the gate from this side indefinitely. Or we can close it and force any visitor to enter under your terms."
Isha and the Reverend Mother Superior stood a short distance behind, listening.
Levi kept his eyes on the claimed land. ’The surface world has its own claims waiting. The women I left behind. The marks I already placed there. But Neverland is finished only when I say it is finished.’
He turned to face the five.
"We do not close the gate yet. We return to the Heart of Chains and set the final orders for the bound and the remnants. After that we decide whether to step back through the gate or remain and see what the higher realms send first."
The five women nodded. No disagreement. No hesitation.
Nima climbed back onto the driver’s bench. The group boarded once more. The chariot lifted under blue light and turned toward the distant gold-threaded mass of the Heart of Chains.
Below them the outer dark stayed quiet. The origin layer remained claimed. The Demon of Grief was gone to dust.
The five women carried whatever her words had left behind, but they carried it while following the same mark that now covered the entire land.
The Sovereign of Neverland flew toward the center of what he had taken, the next decisions already forming.
...
The chariot approached the Heart of Chains under a sky that no longer felt hostile.
Gold light threaded through the living metal of the floating city and along every major chain that anchored it to the pit below.
The white glow that had once defined the Mother’s rule was gone. In its place the steady pulse of the Sovereign Domain moved through the structure like a second heartbeat.
Nima guided the horses to the same outer platform they had used before.
The great chain that led upward into the lower wards now carried a thin gold sheen along its links.
