Chapter 459 - 360: Part 2
This was the scene that greeted Wen Ying when she finished cooking and came to call them for dinner.
"Little White, Kong Jian, time to eat!"
Wen Ying’s voice roused them from their meditation. The two of them stood up and followed her to eat.
A simple meal of two dishes and a soup: braised pork ribs, stir-fried celtuce, and a mushroom and tofu soup.
Although neither of them was hungry, the sight of the food on the table whetted their appetites.
’Is this what a home tastes like?’
Kong Jian thought to himself, feeling incredibly happy. ’So, so happy.’
He ate while sneaking glances at Liger.
Little White was much more carefree, only thinking about eating. She didn’t spare a thought for the fact that this was their first meal at home, or her first meal at home since taking human form.
It was a very happy meal.
After they finished, Kong Jian offered to do the dishes, and Wen Ying didn’t refuse.
Little White didn’t like doing chores, but she still carried the dishes and utensils into the kitchen.
Wen Ying looked at her long-unseen Zhu Yu Grass and plucked a leaf to pop in her mouth.
The Spiritual Energy from this Zhu Yu Grass wasn’t much help to her at her current level, but it was better than nothing.
The poor Zhu Yu Grass, having half its leaves plucked by its owner the moment she got home...
’It’s probably crying its little heart out.’
After cleaning up, Little White took Kong Jian out to wander the streets. Wen Ying lay back in her recliner, took out her phone, and sent a message to Uncle Zhang, but there was no reply.
Wen Ying sent a message to Aunt Zhang next.
It wasn’t until she was going to bed that night that Wen Ying finally received a reply from Aunt Zhang.
"Little Ying, you’re finally back! Your uncle and I are in the provincial capital for some business right now. Have you eaten? The house key is in the shoe cabinet outside the door. There are ingredients I left in the house, and some dumplings I wrapped. You can go get them. Please don’t let yourself go hungry."
Wen Ying looked up at the pitch-black night sky outside.
’Auntie is messaging me this late, and she’s asking if I’ve eaten?’
’At this hour?’
"Auntie, are you and Uncle hiding something from me? If you need me for anything, I’ll be there in a flash."
Again, no reply.
The next reply from Aunt Zhang came the following morning; it was a new message Wen Ying found after waking up.
Wen Ying called Aunt Zhang, who picked up almost immediately.
Half an hour later, Wen Ying hung up the phone.
Uncle Zhang had been acting strangely lately.
Ever since they started being able to dream of the Old Master, the Zhang Family’s life had, frankly, undergone considerable changes.
But there was something particularly strange about Uncle Zhang’s current behavior.
At first, Aunt Zhang didn’t think much of it, but over the past few days, she felt more and more like her husband had become a completely different person.
When her husband suddenly suggested going to the provincial capital, how could Aunt Zhang possibly feel at ease?
She locked the door and went right along with him.
They left their child at its maternal grandmother’s house, giving her some money as well.
Unexpectedly, after arriving in the provincial capital, Uncle Zhang’s changes became even more blatant.
He started frequenting a cemetery, sometimes running off in the middle of the night. Even more excessively, he would sleep in the cemetery at night!
This left Aunt Zhang terrified!
She prayed to the Old Master for several days, hoping for some guidance, but she hadn’t dreamed of him at all.
Aunt Zhang felt helpless. Although she felt bad about troubling Wen Ying with this, she had no other choice.
Uncle Zhang wouldn’t communicate with her or listen to her anymore. Aside from coming home to eat when he was hungry, he wouldn’t return at all. The situation was truly getting serious.
When Wen Ying left, she had given the Zhang Family some peace charms.
Aunt Zhang said on the phone that the peace charms were lost.
This struck Wen Ying as even stranger.
’With the fog appearing everywhere now, the Old Master is probably very busy down below. It’s normal that he hasn’t sent any dreams. He likely never expected something like this to happen to his unfilial son.’
After hanging up, Aunt Zhang forcefully dragged Uncle Zhang away from the cemetery.
The cemetery’s management was already very unhappy!
Uncle Zhang had shown up acting suspiciously at the cemetery time and time again. If it weren’t for Aunt Zhang, the police would have been called several times by now!
Uncle Zhang would have been arrested and locked up for a few days at the very least.
After being scolded, Uncle Zhang was dragged by Aunt Zhang back to the house they had rented for a few days.
Aunt Zhang had told Wen Ying the address over the phone.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she opened the door, Aunt Zhang saw two pieces of talisman paper floating before her eyes.
Aunt Zhang reached out, grabbed the talisman paper, and shoved it into Uncle Zhang’s clothes. She watched as Uncle Zhang instantly cried out, his body beginning to twist and contort before he finally fell to the ground and closed his eyes.
Sensing that Uncle Zhang still had a heartbeat, Aunt Zhang tugged at his clothes. One of the two pieces of talisman paper had already turned to ash.
The other one was perfectly fine. Aunt Zhang picked up the talisman paper and confirmed that the intact one was a peace charm.
’Then the one that was destroyed must be the Exorcism Talisman, right?’
’I can’t believe my husband was actually possessed!’
’It was actually kind of funny, now that I think about it.’
After all, ever since they started dreaming of the Old Master, the couple had come into contact with things ordinary people never would.
They had also burned plenty of good things for the Old Master.
A possession, which would be a huge deal for a normal person, was a trivial matter to them.
But they never expected to actually fall victim to one themselves.
After dragging her husband onto the bed, Aunt Zhang quickly boiled some noodles for herself, then lay down on the sofa, not feeling the least bit sleepy.
She had spent entire nights wide awake, keeping watch over her husband.
But now, her husband had passed out and couldn’t possibly run off again. She could clearly get some rest, yet she felt no desire to sleep.
’I wonder when Little Ying will get here.’
’Sigh, that unreliable Old Master of ours. We serve him so diligently day in and day out, even getting sick from time to time from burning him offerings, yet at this critical moment, he just vanishes!’
’What great matters of state could he possibly be busy with!’
Aunt Zhang was still a little resentful. She had been so tired these past few days.
She was constantly on edge, terrified that something would happen.
It was just that no one would believe her family’s troubles if she told them, and besides, the matter of the Old Master couldn’t be revealed to outsiders.
Wen Ying rested at home for two days before setting off for the provincial capital with Little White and Kong Jian.
