Chapter 392 - 336: Hamburger Combo (2)
The head nurse’s face was livid, her chest heaving. She was clearly furious.
But unfortunately, the woman before her was the one person who couldn’t care less if she was angry.
All she could do was swallow her anger.
"What do you want?"
"I haven’t decided yet. But you have to remember that you owe me one request. How about it?"
The head nurse considered for a moment, then agreed. "It cannot violate the rules."
Then, she watched as the human woman pulled a pair of glasses from her pocket. They were completely pitch-black.
The kind a blind person would wear.
Wen Ying placed the sunglasses on the desk in front of the head nurse. "Why don’t you try them on?"
The head nurse took off her own glasses, which were useless for concealment, and put on Wen Ying’s sunglasses.
’So clear!’
’I can see everything perfectly clear, not pitch-black like I’d expected.’
The head nurse opened the drawer again, took out a palm-sized mirror, and looked at her reflection.
Sure enough, the bruise at the corner of her eye was hidden. Nothing showed through at all.
The only thing visible was the rest of her face, beyond the sunglasses.
’These sunglasses... are really nice.’
The head nurse was very Satisfied.
Wen Ying held up the notification letter. "The head nurse looks very Satisfied. So, don’t forget to put your seal on my letter, will you?"
The head nurse’s hand, still holding the mirror, froze. ’She’s figured it all out?’
She put the mirror back in its drawer, pulled open another, and took out a seal, pressing it onto the notification letter.
Her gaze and tone were ice-cold. "You may go to work now."
Wen Ying took the notification letter and left without hesitation. But as she walked out the office door, her voice drifted back, "Don’t forget my request, now. Whenever I need it, you’ll have to be ready to fulfill it for me, Head Nurse."
The head nurse didn’t say a word.
Only after the human woman had disappeared did the head nurse let out a sigh of relief. She leaned back in her chair, as if finally dropping her guard.
Holding the notification letter, Wen Ying walked toward the third-floor staircase.
Ordinarily, no one could get from the second floor to the third.
Wen Ying had been driven away last time. This time, clutching the notification letter, she stood at the landing of the third floor. She held the letter out in front of her. "I’m the new caregiver."
Sure enough, she wasn’t repelled by the rules.
She slowly set foot on the third floor.
The second and third floors were clearly in the same building, yet the third floor felt as if it were shrouded by some kind of seal.
Upon entering the third floor, Wen Ying heard a sound. GIGGLE GIGGLE... GIGGLE GIGGLE...
"Brother Dog, we have a new toy!"
As the voice rang out, several small children ran out of a room. They looked adorable, no different from any other kids.
Some were seven or eight years old, others around ten.
But it was the seven- and eight-year-olds who circled Wen Ying. The older ones stood off to the side, trying to look cool as they watched the scene unfold.
The interest in their gazes was intense. "It’s a woman this time, and a pretty one at that. Brother Dog, our soccer ball is broken. How about we twist this woman’s head off and kick it around? A ball that pretty would definitely be more fun."
"Then I want her hand! I can add it to my collection. That’s my favorite kind of collectible."
Wen Ying looked at the mischievous children before her. She knew they weren’t merely mischievous.
They had really done these things before—and not just once or twice.
"Human woman, aren’t you scared?"
The child who spoke had a pompous, world-weary tone, as if playing the part of a grown-up. It was almost comical to hear such an adult-like cadence from a child’s mouth. But in a place like this, the effect wasn’t comical. It was terrifying.
They seemed dissatisfied with Wen Ying’s composure. Every single person who came before had been terrified by them.
’How could this time be any different!’
"Hmph! Woman, don’t think you can get away with just pretending to be calm! Your job is to make us Satisfied. Otherwise, we’ll give you a ’Terrible’ on your work evaluation for today! And then, there’s only one way out for you—death!"
"Scared now, human? I command you to make me something delicious to eat! My favorite thing from your human world is a hamburger!"
The child who said this puffed out his chest, looking at Wen Ying with a triumphant smirk.
’Every time he gave this command, the humans would all start begging for mercy!’
’He savored their fear and their pleading. This time should be no different.’
’If this woman can’t do it, he’ll just have to twist her arm off!’
’This is going to be so much fun!’
"A hamburger, you say? If I make a hamburger for you, will you give me a ’Satisfied’ evaluation?"
