Chapter 420 - 345: The Director (3)
"You hate and detest him so much. Who exactly is his father? Can you tell me?"
"Foolish human! What makes you think I’d tell you? You killed my child, and you actually expect me to be grateful? Whether I loved him or not, he was still my child."
"Do you hate the Director?" Wen Ying suddenly asked.
The Head Nurse’s expression flickered for a moment before returning to normal. Her face was stern, her tone icy. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. If you have no other business, please leave. This is not a place where you belong! Don’t think you can do as you please just because you’re powerful!"
"Where is the Director?"
"The Director is where he belongs, of course. Foolish human, don’t assume that just because you can defeat me, you can lay a hand on the Director. You people are just too naive!"
"Is the Director that powerful?"
"Of course he is! If the Director makes a move, death is your only way out!"
"So you’re afraid he’ll turn on you? Are you that scared of dying?"
The Head Nurse stared coldly at Wen Ying, not answering the question.
But her reaction was answer enough.
"One last question, Head Nurse. I want to see the Director. Is that possible? Look at my performance—I’ve been exceptional. Am I not the best of this batch of orderlies? An employee as outstanding as me, a part of our very own mental hospital, shouldn’t I be allowed to meet the boss?"
"Human, don’t even think about it. The Director isn’t someone you can meet just because you want to."
"If you don’t let me see him, I might have to do something to blow off some steam." Wen Ying smiled, but the expression was filled with menace.
"What are you planning to do? Destroying the mental hospital will result in retribution from the rules!"
"Retribution? Oh, dear! I kicked a hole in the basement wall. Does that mean I’m going to be punished?" Wen Ying feigned anxiety.
But this only made the Head Nurse even more furious.
"I can’t make that decision! Not unless the Director himself asks to see you! Otherwise, no matter what you say, you won’t get to meet him!"
"Not even a little consideration, huh?"
The Head Nurse turned her back on the human woman, as if not seeing her would stop her from getting angry.
"If you’re not going to talk, I’ll just stay here and keep you company. I’m not going anywhere."
After a long silence, the Head Nurse suddenly spun around. "See you tonight."
"You got it." Wen Ying turned and left without a moment’s hesitation.
The Head Nurse stared at a spot invisible to the human eye. "Director, do you really want to see her?"
"A human this amusing? How could I possibly miss out?"
Wen Ying, however, was unaware of this exchange.
After leaving the Head Nurse, Wen Ying headed for the third floor. She had been able to come and go as she pleased ever since she earned a "Satisfied" rating from the third-floor patients.
As soon as she got to the floor, she was cornered by a group of children.
"Human woman, you broke your promise!"
"Human woman, we’re very angry!"
Seeing the children’s complaints, Wen Ying seemed to recall something. She really had forgotten.
"Don’t be angry, kids. It’s my fault for forgetting. To make up for it, how about I treat everyone to a big feast today?"
Several burger combos, several pizza combos, as well as spaghetti and cream of mushroom soup.
To top it all off, Wen Ying brought out two large boxes of assorted snacks.
The angry children completely forgot about being mad at Wen Ying and immediately started dividing up the food.
Wen Ying walked toward the end of the hall.
’I wonder what that little girl, Sayia, is doing.’
As she went to knock, the door swung open on its own.
Wen Ying walked inside. Sayia was still sitting in the corner, hugging her knees with her head buried in them.
"Look what goodies I brought you."
Hearing Wen Ying’s voice, the little girl, who had been on the verge of losing her sanity, looked up with newfound clarity in her eyes. "Sister, hungry..."
Wen Ying handed her a piece of braised pork chop, and the little girl ate until her mouth was slick with grease.
"This is all for you. I’m going to see the Director."
Hearing this, Sayia, who had been devouring her food, froze and looked at Wen Ying in confusion.
"Sister, you can’t go see the Director."
"But I have to."
"The Director is a monster... Sister, you’ll die." After saying this, Sayia began to tremble and stared fearfully at the wall.
"The Director hurt you, didn’t he? In that case, I’ll go get revenge for you."
Sayia reached out and grabbed Wen Ying’s arm, completely ignoring her favorite snacks.
She shook her head frantically at Wen Ying, her expression filled with panic. "Don’t go... Don’t go..."
Wen Ying sighed. "Little Sayia, I have to go. From the moment I came to this mental hospital, it was destined that I would have to face this challenge."
Seeing Wen Ying’s resolve, Sayia placed all the snacks she was holding on the floor and turned her back, refusing to look at her.
It was as if she believed this would make Wen Ying change her mind.
