Dream Life

Episode II: The Western Region of Aurelia Street

Tria Calendar July 2, 2017.

Sometimes the day after the Summer Solstice Festival, the merchants leaving were more than thoughtful. But it's not a quick journey either. We go slowly down the Aurelia streets with the merchants - the main streets connecting the west commercial city of Aulera with the east adventurer's city of Periclitle.

Aurelia Street is a relatively safe street on the eastern side of Doctus, but the western side is a dangerous street where bandits and demons travel. There is a geographical reason for this.

The eastern side over Doctus can be said to be a force zone of the Kingdom of Lax when viewed in a mega-vision manner. It is also an area where demonic crusades are fairly frequent due to the proximity of the adventurer city of Periclitle.

On the contrary, the western side is close to the Saeum Mountains, a substantial border between the Caerm Empire and the Kingdom of Lax, a place that is difficult to describe as any sphere of power.

Since the Saeum Mountains were a disputed area between Caerm and Lax, there has been little crusade by the two countries, with many demons inhabiting as a result.

There were also many villages abandoned by Caerm's invasion operations, and it was also a place where bandits, robbers and others who said they were easy to lurk in.

Worse still, the great power closest to the streets, the Caerm Empire, was not aggressive in crusading demons and bandits in the Saeum Mountains.

Nor did the other great power, the Kingdom of Lax, advance its army to the south, which is the frog side, although it actively crusades on its own side, the northern side of the Saeum Mountains.

Because if Lax enters the south side of the mountains, the border dispute with the empire, which is now on fire, threatens to reignite.

There was a clear reason why the Caerm Empire was a nominal territory but not actively involved in the safety of the Aurelia streets.

It is the Union of Urban States, including Aurelia, which benefits most from the streets of Aurelia. Furthermore, the Kingdom of Lax in the north, and the Kingdom of Kaum in the south, at the end of the street, also benefit.

In other words, if the streets of Aurelia flourish, they will only contribute to the expansion of the forces of the Union of Urban States, such as Lax, the enemy country, or Aurelia, which is rapidly growing its forces and becoming a virtual enemy country, with little benefit for Caerm to his own country.

Regardless of the northern governor Raswell's border uncle, who is benefiting from the streets of Aurelia, he believed that for the emperors and nobles in the southern imperial capital, Plymouth, he had no inclination to help the rivals.

And while Aurelia, the commercial city that benefits most from this street, Aurelia's leaders are naturally willing to improve the situation.

But they were unable to deploy a massive crusade operation.

Aurelia is allowed to survive by the Caerm Empire by having only minimal force as a commercial city. Though the Aurelia crusaded demons and bandits, she was concerned that deploying a large army would give the Caerm Empire a pretext for aggression.

This means that the streets from Doctus to Aurelia have become a vacuum zone of a kind of force in which the interests of the great powers are intricately intertwined.

For this reason, merchants travelling down the streets of Aurelia often organize large caravans in self-defence. Two or three hundred mercenaries were escorted to nearly a hundred wagons to deal with threats from demons and bandits.

That being said, we don't get to put together a massive caravan every time. The speed of travel of carriages is inconsistent, and transport costs increase even in line with slower carriages.

If even smaller chambers of commerce seem to carry the same goods as larger chambers of commerce, it is obvious that large chambers of commerce would be advantageous if they arrived in the same city at the same time.

Young ambitious merchants who dislike it sometimes set up small caravans and go out into the streets trying to get out of major chambers of commerce.

But it should be said that such merchants were bound to pay the price. Still, the merchants in one or eight battles went on and on.

And it's us, but from the identity of the escort and the creation of the carriage, it looks like a line of wealthy aristocrats from a distance. For this reason, it is likely to be the target of the bandits.

Aristocrats often have lighter and more expensive goods than merchants - jewellery, cash, etc. There are even more unfamiliar travelers than the merchants, and they can get away from the merchants because they frequently take breaks or, conversely, hate to match the speed of carriages.

Also, if there is a luxurious carriage in a utility-based carriage, the target is easily identifiable even from a distance and seems to be considered a prey for the outfit.

This line of the Lockhart family, although there are fierce men who said Guy Jakes or Byron Seedorf, the vigilante's young man is twenty. There, he looks like a young soldier with little experience if only appearance.

Plus, the fact that the six of us are young and many women are hired as escorts makes them more likely to be targeted.

I pointed that out to my father, but he answered me with a laugh, without looking particularly concerned.

"I won't be late for the bandits. Well, about triple the number of people would be able to overwhelm. Of course, I expect a lot from you guys."

Indeed, the level of young people in the vigilante is about thirty, reaching a level that can be described as sufficiently one-serving soldiers. Guys and Byrons in command are over level fifty, and my father and Enos are over level forty.

Plus with the six of us, if level twenty or so is the dominant bandit group, then maybe three or forty can fight it enough, and if we don't even get ambushed, we can even overwhelm it with the magic of me, Liddy and Sharon.

Nevertheless, he cautioned further that caution could not be exercised.

"But bandits around here are not insulting. You should take care to act with the merchants whenever you can."

My father nodded at my warning and said, "Right. Because it's silly to fight for nothing and get hurt," he agreed.

Burned by the dazzling sun of early summer, on the evening of the second day from departure, he arrived at Hollywell, an accomodation town fifty kilometres west of Doctus.

In the meantime, being stranded in a line of merchants, the speed of travel was considerably less than twenty-five kilometres per day, but without encountering demons or bandits, there was no trouble-like trouble.

The next day the forest deepens and demons begin to be heard, but thanks to about a hundred carriages and more than two hundred escorts, only sporadic encounters with demons have occurred.

July 7, the sixth day from departure.

The city of Low Cliff, the closest to the Raswell Frontier Uncle Territory, is today's destination.

Nothing had happened so far, and the tensions among the escorts were starting to loosen slightly.

(Something happens at times like this. But when I say that, it's going to be really...)

I am more alert to my surroundings than usual, and Dan, who has noticed my actions, is just as alert. Of course, there was no alert for veterans Guy or Byron.

Our position that day was in front of the caravan.

And around 2pm.

In seven or eight kilometers, in a place called the City of Low Cliff, it happened.

After finishing the break and proceeding for about an hour through a deep forest with little sunlight in it, he was in a place where the great trees were sparse and many depressed trees were growing.

It became brighter because of the sunlight, but a few meters away from the road was indispensable to hide oneself, and a slightly trained soldier was a place where dozens could be ambushed.

I thought it was a great place to ambush and I gave Liddy and Beatrice an eye. Then they seemed to think the same way, and there was force in their arms gripping hands.

As we move forward with heightened vigilance, the leading merchant convoy escort's "Raid!," "The bandits are out! The roar rose, and I heard the screaming of a man like you, and the sound of a horse, and the sound of a don like something bumping into him.

Almost at the same time the line of merchants stopped moving on a narrow road.

The sound of a wagon called a ragged horse interrupts, and with the howling sound of a horse called Bull, you can hear the anxious voices of merchants and escorts.

At the same time as the carriage stops, my father quickly gives instructions.

"Guy! Check the situation ahead!

Guy says, "Copy that!," he answers briefly, running down from his horse.

"Byron! Lead Brett and Sid on the south side of the carriage! Jim, Kevin goes on with me!

Brett and the others are vigilante youths, Brett and Jim are swordsmen, Sid and Kevin are magicians. There's another archer named Mark, but now he's the owner of the carriage.

The vigilante's young man seemed just well trained, and when he was given the order, he quickly disembarked and armed himself as he jumped his cape.

My father gives us instructions as he runs to the front left of the carriage.

"Miss Beatrice asks for a carriage escort with Zach and the others!

Beatrice said, "Copy that!" He shouts and immediately gives us instructions.

"Zach, you and Mel, Dan are on the south side, me and Lydiane, Sharon are on the north side! You've kept your head down, which means you should be after it. Keep your temper up!

Nearly a hundred kilometers long is the only line of carriages. When the mercenaries, with more than two hundred men, are also dispersed in this large formation, the number per place is quite small.

In this caravan there are several carriages loaded with artefacts from the northern kingdom of Sartooth and materials from the expensive demons of Periclitle, which today, coincidentally, were solidified forward.

I checked that line when I left in the morning, and predicted the most alarming timing, and it seemed to hit me. Naturally, we're in that target, too.

(I wonder how powerful the enemy is. There will be at least fifty of us attacking this many merchants. The aim would be the forward Sartooth merchants and us. For example, I guess you're going to hang a yang in the back to dampen the escort and disconnect it from the front in that gap......)

I approached Beatrice,

"I don't know where the enemy is coming from. Me and Liddy, Sharon better snipe off the carriage."

Beatrice said, "Okay. But watch out for enemy arrows," he admits.

I told Liddy and Sharon to climb on the carriage and further told my mother in the carriage not to go outside.

My mother was slightly blue, but she snorted with a grin at her temperament that made me worry about young Sophia.

The twins with my mother, Theophilus and Seraphine, were about to go outside, tiding their faces, holding their swords. The two are at swordsman level twelve due to their grandfather's training, and they seem to be looking to stand up to the bandits.

Exactly. At level twelve, I'm stuck. Considering their feelings, they decided to entrust the two of them with the escort of their mother, a non-combatant, and their younger sister, Sophia.

I put a pom pom and a hand on their heads,

"Theo, Serra, listen carefully. I want you to protect my mother and Sophia. Because they're the last of the forts. I asked for it."

In my words the two of them nodded nervously and went back into the carriage.

(Well, how much power is coming at you. With that said, isn't Dan and Mel new to interpersonal?

I was in the woods in Doctus, but I never ran into a bandit, and still the two of them have never killed a person.

"Liddy, Sharon. Dan and Mel have never killed anyone. I'm sure it's all right, but just keep an eye on it."

The two nodded small, and when Liddy tried to say something,

"I'm coming from the south!

Dan's sharp warning voice sounded.

Shortly thereafter, several arrows descend from the south side of the carriage, from the left hand side in the direction of travel.

Mel and Dan, who could hear an arrow feather called Shh, but were vigilant enough, easily avoid flying arrows.

Arrows were released about three times, but the Mels either slapped the arrows down or avoided them easily, with no damage at all. But this one was also unable to attack the enemies who masterfully hide themselves.

It was the enemy who rushed ahead.

You thought there was too much distance to reveal the riddle, and three bandits with short bows jump out of the shade of a tree. Men in their late twenties or so with a bearded surface that feels unreliable, but the gear looks relatively cared for.

You thought the bandits put it in a vantage point, and they start putting up bows to release more arrows.

But before that, me and Sharon were unleashing magic watching the opportunity to activate magic.

We unleash the same magic, Swallow Wing Blade (Swallow Cutter) against the bandits with the breath of the Ayumu. There was no prior meeting, but the two magical swordfish draw a clean arc, rapidly approaching from the left and right of the bandits.

The bandits marvel at the magic of the swallow cutter they see for the first time and stand for a moment forgetting to release an arrow. But the bandits were calmer than they thought and turned their attention to you trying to avoid the magical swordfish flying from left to right.

That was a move within our assumptions. Liddy was slightly out of time, releasing an air hammer.

Two bandits bend and blow to the letter of turning their bodies over to the force of the air hammer's intense compressed air. Only one bandit who was not blown away had his eyes wide open and remained solidified with a blue look. I can't seem to believe the formidable formation of three magicians.

Still, he doesn't lose his chill and carefully retreats in an attempt to get distance. That's not all, we magicians decided it was more dangerous, we had bowed to release arrows over the carriage.

The bandit wasn't alarmed, but assumed me and Sharon's swallow cutter were extinguished, and failed to be alarmed.

It's a common sense response in a way because the magic we avoided once will never come back, but unfortunately for him, our magic was still alive.

The magical swordfish ignored the blown bandits, flew away to cross, and was turning around heavily. And from the left and right of the bandit with the bow, he attacked at the same time to poke a blind spot.

The bandit noticed Sharon's swallow cutter coming at him from the right when he put up his bow. Then he swung his right hand with his caged hand on his stomach and tried to slap off the magical swordfish.

But the swordfish skilfully re-orbits and scratches its hand as if it were alive. Shortly afterwards, he turned to a sudden surge and mutilated the face of the bandit.

The bandit didn't have long to raise his groan. Because my magic swordfish was poking a blind spot and sticking it in his neck.

When my magic was decided, a bright red blood splash went up. The man turned his vain eyes to me and slowly fell.

In the meantime, Dan also throws an arrow at the bandit who is about to stand up. Further, Mel tried to approach the fallen bandit in an attempt to stab a stop. At that time, he said, "We're also from the north!" Beatrice's warning voice echoes around.

Beatrice also told his fathers, "Lord! Don't go too far forward!" He was giving a warning.

I look back to Beatrice's voice.

When I looked back, in the woods on the north side, there were also more than ten bandits standing just about twenty meters away. The bandits raise their wild whispers and attack as they wield their weapons. More from the trees in the back came bandits, one after the other, as they gushed.

At that time, on the north side, there were only my father, Masaias, two vigilantes, and four Beatrice.

A multitude of cluttered groups with single-handed swords, double-edged axes, spears, etc. on the scratchy leather armor strike with a belligerent grin.

There was no time to unleash magic, allowing the enemy to approach so close that he could hear his excited breath.
