Dream Life

Episode Thirty: How to Use Life

Tria Calendar July 19, 2017, around 5 p.m.

As a result of discussions with the Raswell Border Bells, my plan to retaliate against Lukes was approved.

To persuade the key figure, Harrison Gannell, he heads to the room where Gannell is being held, along with First Knights Chief Baron Manfred Braceford. The Knight Commander walking in front of me and his escort, the two knights, were silent all the time, creating a harsh atmosphere.

Gannell was being held in a room near the knights' stuffing house at Welburn Castle.

A soldier of the First Knights standing at the sentry acknowledges the figure of the Knights Commander and reports no anomalies while saluting. In reply to that, the Knights Commander ordered the door to be opened.

"Sir Zacharias Lockhart will conduct the interrogation more than this. Open the door."

The soldiers at the sentry gave the words a look that seemed unexpected for a moment, but sometimes it was the orders of the commander of the regiment, who obeyed without saying anything.

I'm the only one going in through the open door.

The room is dim, with an orange sunset coming in through a small window for brightness illuminating a corner of the room.

Gannell was tied to a chair in the center of that room. His hair is disturbed and the dirt on his clothes is noticeable, but he has such a calm expression that he does not think he has continued to assassinate those who become enemies.

He was staring at the little window without any particular reaction when I walked into the room.

The sound of the door closing seemed to notice me entering the room, slowly turning my gaze.

"Lord Zacharias Lockhart?

There was no point in asking questions or confirming the question, only the nuance of “what have you come to do” was felt. When I nodded at the question, he meditated quietly on his eyes. The figure is tranquil and gives a certain sense of divinity, like an enlightened high priest.

"I need you to do something for me."

I started talking straight.

"To me? What are you gonna do to me waiting to be executed?

Words didn't dislike the tone on my back. Looks like he just honestly said the question “What do you want me to do?"

"Subject to Sir Gateskel's help and restoration, I would like to ask for a muscular testimony from now on"

Gannell reacts to the word Lord Gateskel's help.

"Will Master Desmond be alive? I heard you were already harmed?

I shook my head.

"That's fake information I let flow. We're going to meet with him later."

A calm look as if he had enlightened himself turns. Gannell points his natural sharp gaze at me, then looks down to think about it.

"False information?... Dear Desmond is alive... have I been danced..."

When you squeal like that, you turn your sharp gaze at me again.

"So, what kind of bullshit are you gonna make me talk? No, against whom?

I try to sound as flat as I can,

"I'll tell you first. You will not be executed."

He nods small. There seems to be nothing in my language that says no to exit.

"You will be executed in public. We want people to talk on the spot. That I was Luke's man..."

Explain the scenario I draw. In anticipation of the time when the excitement of the wedding ceremony of the brothers settles down, execute Gannell in public. In doing so, Gannell says he'll start making monologues as if he were going to bruise the audience.

"... you were captured by Lukes on the western front and you betrayed your country without enduring torture. And to disrupt the Empire, he took in Lord Gateskel. He then took Sir Gateskel and Viscount Tysburn as puppets" cuckoos "with drugs obtained through Aurella's merchant Oulett, Luke's foreman... not only manipulated the Viscount and Sir Gateskell with drugs, but also assassinated Patrick, the son of Uncle Borderline, in order to cause confusion here in the northern region..."

Gannell is listening to me without saying anything.

"... I lost Master Patrick, but there was no great confusion in the Borderline Uncle family. So Luke, in a hurry, planned the cultivation of the bloody drug of the Light God (Lucidus) and the revolt with it..."

So he nods small and whines to himself, "You're so close to the fact there," he says.

I nod back small to his soliloquy and move on.

"... and you, who decided that the time was ripe, used Sir Gateskel as a puppet to rebel against the Fourth Battalion and to try to make His Excellency the Governor deceased. But it was held back by the elite of the First Knights..."

"It was Lockhart who prevented that revolt. Especially when I hear you had a lot of power.

"It's better if the Lockhart family doesn't come forward. It must be Welburn's patron saintly knighthood that has minimized the tragedy of the Fourth Battalion. It doesn't matter..."

Ganell nods small whether he is convinced or not.

"What matters is that you show yourself to be a follower of light divinity. You must mock Lord Tiesburn and Lord Gateskel. It's fanatical, too."

Gannell looks a little troubled, unusual for him with no expression.

"I have trouble expecting me to act..."

"I don't think it's that hard. Because all you have to do is spit out the dialogue with the intention of mocking the fanatics of phototheism."

He meditated his eyes quietly as he contemplated,

"I see. I do have a heap of things to say to them. Should I exhale that feeling..."

And you convinced me or nodded loudly,

"Let's be good. I'll ride your lord's plan. If Desmond can live forever after blowing a bubble at them, there's nothing to hope for. But Dear Desmond... No, that's good..."

So after a few ideas,

"Aren't you unacceptable around the Knights Commander? Master Desmond manipulated the knights to start a rebellion."

"His Excellency the Governor is persuaded about that, and His Excellency Braceford is also convinced. Besides, I'm responsible... well, I swear by Lockhart's name, I ask you not to question Lord Gateskel's sins. Just..."

"Just?"

When I whispered, Gannell asked me back.

"It's just that Lord Gateskell will do it. As far as I can tell, I don't think they'll try to live forever at your expense..."

Gannell is small enough to agree, but he's staring right at me.

"Isn't your lord already thinking of measures? Even Desmond's fearful lord can't say such things without a plan."

I couldn't stop being surprised. It is said to be Gateskell's katana, but he had a strong impression with the commander of the unit in action and did not expect to gain that much insight.

"... yeah, I'm thinking about it for once"

That's what I answer, so I did my best.

(Maybe I was underestimating this guy named Ganel. I only thought he was a samurai who could do the dark work behind him too... if he had served someone like Uncle Borderline, he could have been a good commander or politician...)

"I'm not thinking of a big deal when I say measures. I was just trying to convince you."

Was Gannell also surprised by my answer, "To me?," he asks back, expressing his concern.

"If I say I will be sacrificed, Master Desmond will no doubt disagree. That one thinks it's even inside me. And he's not the one who's going to sacrifice his life until he dies."

"I know that. But if I tell you honestly what you think... do you regret it? That I let Oulette hook me up. And that it was used by Luke."

Gannell has a slightly distressed look. I ignore it and keep talking.

"You complain about wanting to reward Luke with one arrow. He wants me to take my measures even if I don't mean to. If you say so much, I'll persuade you later."

show a slightly crucible trick, but you blew it right off,

"Let your lord take care of everything. If it's to reward the fanatics of Luke, I'll bet you everything about me."

Where he is convinced, put in contact with the Braceford Knights Commander waiting outside.

"Lord Gannell is going to cooperate. As you should, Lord Gateskell."

The Knights chief still had the look of bitter worms chewed up, but said nothing in particular and ordered his men to follow the gateskell.

A few minutes later, Associate Baron Desmond Gateskel was brought in, looking exhausted.

"Lord Zacharias... what are you going to do?

It wasn't even a playful tone like when we first met, it was just a clerical way of talking like checking facts.

"Lord Harrison Gannell wants to talk to you."

Gateskell finds out Ganell was captured and groans, "Why didn't you run away," but immediately starts to talk to himself in a mockery.

"There's no way he's gonna get away with this. Was he attacked by Uncle Borderline trying to avenge me? No, to say you're here, did you aim for you..."

So he shook his head small and groaned, "... but I don't have a face to match him..."

I appeal to his heart with a sincere expression.

"Lord Gannell will be executed. He wants you to hear his will..."

Looks like Gateskell got lost in that word, too. And then, a few seconds later, I whine, "I'll see you."

I nod to the Knights Commander to send a signal. The Knights Commander also nodded back and ordered the soldiers, the outposts, to open the doors.

When I went inside, I waited so that Ganell, who remained tied to the chair, could bow his head.

"I'm sorry. Because of my lack of strength..."

Gateskell blocks Gannell's words of apology.

"You did a good job. I didn't have enough power. That's all."

And he goes on to scoff at himself, "It's to say I was more incompetent than I thought I was".

"No… there's no point in saying any more"

Gateskell also smiles back when Gateskell says so with a smile.

But Gannell quickly became a serious look,

"Dear Desmond, I have a favor to ask. My last wish. How dare you?"

"Last wish? I'm dying too, but is that what you wish for me?

Gannell nodded small, staring again into Gateskel's eyes and starting to talk.

"I want to avenge Luke for continuing to give me despair. I want Desmond to be exposed to shame for that..."

"Shame on you? Now, exposing yourself to shame..."

So he realizes that I exist, and he looks at me and says, "You blew something in." Then head to Ganell,

"I don't know what they said, but I'm not going to expose myself to any more shame. We were, no, I was defeated. This place should be open to death."

Gannell shakes his head loudly. Deny it in a strong tone for him, who rarely puts his emotions on the table.

"That's not true! We haven't completely lost yet..."

"Didn't we lose? We were defeated by Uncle Borderline and by Sir Zacharias. He was even better at one or two than I was, this guy."

"No...... I did get hit as good for Uncle Borderline. But I still have my hands on Luke. If we die like this, Oulett, the Lukes will laugh. But if Sir Zacharias's plan..."

"To avenge Luke, you want me to ride this guy's measures? I have my pride, too. I'm not going to expose you to any more shame."

Deny the gate skeleton because it feels like there are no islands to mount it.

Still, Ganell didn't give up,

"We have to reward Oulett at all costs! The man manipulated me for convenience, grinning in the shadow at the way I scratched my feet... the result is this..."

I mock myself for saying so and being held captive.

"... because of my incompetence if that's all. But..."

Tighten your teeth tightly and release a strong killer.

"They took everything from me! My family, my honor, my territory...... and again trying to take everything away from me!

Gannell quenched the killing he had unleashed and began to speak quietly.

"After being captured at Luke's, the territory and the title were taken up because of their insinuation, or so it seems. I thought they were pawns after they took everything from me..."

Gateskell, and I'm stunned by that word.

"I've been thinking about it the last few days. Why, Oulett chose me..."

Ganel's monologue continues.

"I chose me as a handkerchief because I was taken prisoner by chance... but didn't they consider using the pawn they got effectively... take everything from me and decide that the aristocrat who fell into me plotted it... blinded by revenge I cause confusion in the Empire... this is how it all fits..."

Gannell's words go on.

"I was destined to die in the Imperial capital. I guess that was Luke's plan. But Master Desmond did not spare us... so they thought I still had value for use. Even though I changed my name, I've been in contact..."

Gannell's thoughts were muscular.

Escape him from captivity and return him to the Empire City. It's not hard to imagine him running for revenge when he returns. In order to make him forget me and retaliate, he carried out the task of taking over the title and territory. Since Gannell doesn't have the back shield of a grand aristocrat, the manipulation must have been successful without much effort.

Gannell, who was a disposable pawn, survived. Not only did he survive, he was to serve the Viscount Tiesburn family close to the Raswell family, the northern governor. I guess this was a coincidence. But knowing it, Luke's Holy King's Palace would have been a delight. Because he succeeded in planting a seed of confusion in the northern realm of the Empire without labor.

I know what you're trying to say.

Gateskell is silent when he says that.

After about ten seconds of silence, Gateskell slowly started talking.

"I know what you think. But my survival leaves the north (here) with its roots. No matter how you retaliate against Luke, you'll end up falling."

Gannell tried to open his mouth, but before I do, I'll break into the conversation.

"You say it's a scourge, but it'll be temporary."

Gateskell, looking back, has argued with a somewhat lonely look.

"I sacrificed the Fourth Battalion. More than a hundred loyal knights and soldiers for my ambition. Regardless of the sophisticated border uncle, the knights are unconvinced... if I survive, there will be a crack between the Governor and the knights. In that case, Luke will be able to reach out from the Imperial Capital."

"I do have that concern. But that depends on what you're going to do. Sincerely, if you devote yourself to your country, you should be recognized sooner or later. And..."

I cut the words there and watch the Gateskell react.

His expression remains unchanged, quietly awaiting the continuation of my words.

"... what are you going to do about His Highness the Viscount of Tiesburn? As far as your testimony is concerned, I'm guessing His Highness the Viscount did not order you to put your hands down aggressively. I trusted you and entrusted you with the fate of my clan. Then you are responsible for the Viscounts"

"Sure you're right... but what will Constance do to the Viscount Tysburn family about this one?"

I will explain the facts as if I were going to tell them the truth so that I don't feel ungrateful.

"His Excellency Viscount Constance Tiesburn had a story about you hiding away and your man taking over the trail. But I hear that if Lord Gannell testifies, there will be no more blame."

Gateskell has a slightly bitter look.

"Well... will Master Constance no longer be charged... so what is my disposition going to do"

Hearing about Viscount Tiesburn not guilty, Gateskell's heart was also beginning to shake.

"Before I do that, let me explain the measures I have in mind. First, to Lord Gannell..."

I will briefly explain what I explained to the borderline bosses. When Gateskell finishes listening to me, he shakes his body to show discomfort.

"Are you going to use Gannell as a tool! Isn't that the same fanatic of light god then!

I stare back at his wrath-burning eyes without changing my expression.

"No matter how they say it, this is the best measure. Lord Gannell has no reason to live forever, not even restore his honor. Then you should use this person's life effectively. Lord Gannell wants that too."

Gateskell stuffs all over me, but soon he regains his composure.

"That's certainly the best thing to do. But it's also an unexpected measure for me… I think I know why your lord has crossed with that spicy, famous Wargman Speaker - the magician's guild council chairman of Doctus…"

After I said I was blurry, I immediately looked into my eyes,

"Let's be good. I live in shame. If Gannell wants to reward Luke with an arrow, I'll take your measures. Not for the borderline uncle or your lord. For Gannell and Constance."

When you say that like it's blown out, you turn back to Gannell.

"You did a good job. Without you, nothing would have been possible. Really hard work......"

Ganeskel shakes his head in silence at Gateskel's words. Gateskell nods, as he knows, "I'm done for here" and turns his back on Gannell.

When I left the room, Gateskell never looked back.

(I guess I trusted you as my main obedience. If only we'd met... but I don't want this happening on a golden wheel...)

I was looking at Gateskell's back not saying anything and not even changing his expression.

(... this may peel the gateskell...)

Report to the Braceford Knights Commander waiting outside that the persuasion was successful.

"It's not disgusting or anything, but it's something only Sir doesn't want to turn to his enemies. I don't feel like I can win."

When the Knights chief told me that, he said to Gateskell, "We're heading to Your Excellency's office," and started walking. There was no such hostility in his words as before, and he also seemed to be caring about the gateskells that drove his trusted men to their dead places.

I went straight back to our room.

Liddy's anger didn't subside, but seeing me a little depressed made me loosen my anger spearhead slightly.

The public execution of Harrison Gannell was decided on July 25.
