Dream Life

Episode 55: Ulrich's Workshop

Tria Calendar September 24, 2017.

In the morning, when the blue sky was wide open, we were heading from the Golden Floor (Anville) Pavilion, where we stayed, to the Blacksmith Town.

I will pass on my measurements of protective equipment and rough requests for weapons this morning and plan to go on a field survey of the distillery's candidate sites this afternoon.

Each blacksmith in charge behaves differently for everyone. Even so, from the inn, the blacksmith district is at the end of the eye and nose, and the city itself is a small city with a radius of about a hundred tens of meters, so if you just go, you'll get there in just a few minutes.

It's no big deal in distance, but the city of Ars itself is a structure built on slopes, surprisingly intertwined, which is supposed to be guided by Blacksmith Guild officials.

Incidentally, Will Keegan, a squire accompanying him to this Ars trip, was also asked to make a spear. It's just that he wasn't exactly the same famous artisan as Beatrice, the "Maker of Divine Spears” Oigen Hauser, but he's still supposed to have three hundred blacksmiths hit by superior blacksmiths with just enough arms to be chosen.

In contrast, he was firmly frightened, "Whatever Mr. Walt is, in me…". Will, who became a squire after being young and recognized by his grandfather Govan and father Masaias, turns thirty this year, and his magician level greatly exceeds forty. I'm old enough to be thirty, but I can't even compare myself to Walt Vassel, a squire head, who is just near level seventy, and I won't have a choice to be afraid of.

The two unrelated Scott and Johnny Water are supposed to check the location of the nearby brewery "..." at the Blacksmith Guild headquarters until we're done with our errands. This is to prepare for the survey of distillery construction candidate sites in the afternoon.

I was led by Jack Harper, an Alliance headquarters employee, to the workshop of Ulrich Drexler, where he would strike the sword first.

Ulrich, head of the Guild of Craftsmen, but he's not at the Guild headquarters every day. Yesterday was the day the distilled liquor regular flight (Scotch liner) arrived, and he was at Alliance headquarters, but basically he was striking a sword in the workshop.

There is a workshop in Ulrich about fifty meters north of Guild headquarters. It's not that big for a famous blacksmith's workshop, to the extent that it's a little bigger than the average house - 10 m wide on the ground floor, two floors underground, about 15 m deep - and to say the difference, it's about as big as having a chimney.

Ask Jack about it,

"You're all surprised, there are only twelve blacksmiths in the master craftsman's workshop. That's only five people living there, so that's enough..."

Even when it comes to workshops, they don't need that much area because they do refining metal and storing materials elsewhere.

What can I say, the workshop at Beltram, a blacksmith in the village of Rasmore, is much bigger. Of course, I know I can't simply compare it because I also do casting in Beltram's workshop, but still, as the world's leading blacksmith's workshop, I can't help but feel small.

As soon as we reach Ulrich's workshop, a young Dwarf blacksmith appears and is led upstairs underground. Even when it comes to the second basement floor, the house in the city of Ars is built on a slope, so if you go up a few stairs, you can also go out the outside on the underside of the slope - the southwest side. I mean, it feels more like a half basement than a complete basement.

This workshop, however, has a blacksmith workshop on the second basement floor, an office and dining room on the first basement floor, and a residence on the ground floor.

Going down to the blacksmith workshop, Ulrich and two veteran blacksmith-like dwarves talk in front of a block of metal, beside which young craftsmen seem busy preparing tools and adjusting furnace temperatures.

You noticed by the sound of the door, and soon Ulrich approached us.

"I've been waiting for you! Okay, here we go!

I'm already pretty tense when I say it's not 8: 00 AM.

"What about the material? Tell me if you have any hope. I don't think Adamantite is a good idea... if you say so, you're a magical swordsman. Then maybe we should make it a magic sword..."

I was curled up like a fury, and I was about to shut up, but I became hardened by the words he uttered.

(The material is Adamantite... magic sword... would be a lie...)

Adamantite is a very rare metal, and because of its high hardness and compatibility with magic, it is called the best metal for weapons. Naturally, it is said that the value is high and that the material alone for a small sword wave will not drop 100,000 C (krona) (= 100 million yen).

By the way, Mithril is considerably lighter than Adamantite - lighter than steel - and an excellent metal for weapons and protective equipment, but inferior to Adamantite in terms of hardness. Also, there is Orihalcon as a famous magic metal, but unfortunately it has not yet been found in this world. My mentor, Professor Raspade, told me that an old book in the Great Library of the academic city of Doctus has a statement about Orihalcon.

I try to say no to the too expensive material by saying "Adamantite, just the material cost......" but Ulrich blocks my words,

"Don't worry about the money. No, it's not a lot of money like this!

Exactly a blacksmith competing for one or two in the world. Say "to this extent” the material that is difficult to obtain. To say anything more, I thought he would be offended and thankfully decided to take the suggestion.

"... ok. Then I'd like to ask you in Adamantite. I don't need to be a magic sword, but I want you to grant me the magic of hardening if you can."

Magic swords are also called “demon swords” or “holy swords," but refer precisely to "swords that grant attribute magic”.

This magic sword, but the material goes well with the "power of the Spirit" such as Mithril. Metals called "so-called" magic metals are used. By incorporating the Demonic Crystal Stone and the Magic Formation into it and passing magic through its Demonic Crystal Stone, attributes such as fire and light can be granted.

A commonly known magic sword is a flaming sword that grants a fire attribute with a high degree of destructive power, and when passed through magic, it can wrap a flame around itself and increase its attack power. However, they can't fly a wrapped flame, which is common in novels and such.

By the way, the Mithrill sword presented at Welburn by my brother Rodrick is an unfinished but light attributed magic sword. He said he would visit Ars himself at a later date to complete it.

"Is that good? A magician should have a lot of magic. I'm sorry to say that, but a sorcerer is less powerful than a regular swordsman. I don't think it's necessary to grant magic that increases your attack power."

What he says is correct as a general theory. But I didn't dare make that choice.

"Sure, I'm weak compared to a swordsman of the same level. In fact, Mel, the swordsman, has a better shot."

"You know that for some reason."

I snort loudly at Ulrich's inquiry.

"In my case, the subject of the attack is magic. I mean, it's better to shoot in magic than to put magic into a sword. Of course, sometimes we fight in between swords. But putting magic into the sword will mean the end..."

So cut the words, raise your right hand high,

"Besides. If a normal sword is to be slashed and tied to an ineffective enemy, you can do this too..."

That's what I'm saying, I'm going to cast a spell of the Sword of Light.

"God of Light (Lucidus). Give me your glorious power, your holy light. I will not give my life at that price. Come out, Shining Sabre."

A red orange thin sword of light appears from my right hand along with the roaring sound of "Bhun”.

"If you have to, this guy can use it. So the sword should be sturdy and cut."

“The Light Sword" is a magic that has been modified to withstand the practical use of the Light Sword (Light Sabel) made on the first night when magic became available.

Previously, the Light Sword simply gathered light and did not “materialize” it. As a result, he was unable to take or play the opponent's attack and was hard to use as a sword. However, Shining Sabre (Shining Sabre) has a “core” that materializes light, so it can be attacked by the opponent, and the swordsmanship the body remembers can be used as it is.

This magic, but I realized I could materialize the power of the Spirit when I developed the Soundproofing Magic Prop, and I made it.

Speaking in terms of aggression, it does not emit heat, but it can also be cut off while dissolving the metal if it is fed more MP than is necessary to activate it. Of course, it also works on immortal demons (undead) such as immaterial ghosts. Plus, I can freely adjust the length - I can stretch it up to nearly 2m - so I can expect an ambush effect.

The weakness is that it consumes a lot of magic and cannot be activated all the time. It is a magic that is practical enough at times because it can be maintained without difficulty for the most minutes or so.

It's magic enough for practical use, but there's just one thing I didn't do as I wanted.

It's “color”.

For some reason, it becomes a red orange light.

At first it was yellow close to white. Playful, as soon as I imagined a sound effect called "boom," it turned orange close to red. It may unconsciously fit the color of the equipment, but no matter how you imagine it, it doesn't turn blue or green. It's good because the color just changed and I don't have practical problems, but I'm really worried about it.

By the way, I don't remember falling on the dark side of power.

Back to the point, there's another reason I said I wouldn't make it into a magic sword.

Granting magic improves attack power and has the advantage of being able to deal with demons where physical attacks do not work, but disadvantages also exist.

That's what they say is a lot of magic (MP) consumption.

A common swordsman, of course, is a first-rate swordsman, but when you activate a magic sword, you will have enough symptoms of a loss of magic. In an experiment Professor Raspade did back in the day, he said it was long enough, and the shorter the magic ran out in about five minutes.

For me, where the subject of the attack is magic, weapons that consume a lot of magic (MP) can be deadly. Also, in theory, magic swords absorb magic in small amounts but at all times - they will need magic to maintain the magic crystal stones and magic formations - so this will also be a disadvantage.

Ulrich looks at my shiny thin sword and shakes his head small to the side.

"Sounds like magic to me... By the way, have you ever used a guy named Magic Sword?

I shook my head. The magic sword was very rare and I had never seen the actual object of the finished product. Naturally, I've never taken it in my hand.

"Let's be good. Once you use it, you'll see. Hey, bring that one."

Ulrich gave instructions to one of his disciples.

The young man who was instructed said, "Yes!," he replies, heading back to be bounced. He immediately returned with a long, thin crate about a length of one and five meters.

Ulrich opened the crate and took out a wave of long swords.

"This guy is Mithrilled, but he's been granted a fire attribute. Why don't you give this guy a shot?"

That's what I said and headed for the garden.

There is a thick wooden stick piercing the garden, where the disciples install the upper body part of the old metal armor.

"First, try slashing me like that."

I was confused by this situation. A magic sword before delivery, perhaps worth billions of yen. If I scratch it with a slaughter, I feel relieved.

"I guess that sword is pre-delivery, right?

Ulrich nodded "um,"

"All you have to do is put your hands on the decorations. I'll deliver it tomorrow."

After that, it seems to be complete by adding decorations to the sheath, violin, etc. By the way, they say the delivery destination is the Knight of the Caerm Empire.

"If it were, it wouldn't taste good. If you scratch it..."

"Your arm won't be a problem. If you have some scratches, you can fix them."

That's what I'm saying. I don't try to fix it. I had no choice but to receive my sword.

When I took that sword, I got an exclamation sigh that it was just the work of one of the world's leading blacksmiths. A full-bodied body polished up like a mirror without a scratch. When the light hits, the rainbow glow is slightly brilliant, giving a strong feeling of power.

I took my eyes off that beautiful body and shook it lightly twice, three times.

And then there was another sigh.

Every time you feel the right weight but shake it, you get used to it, making it feel as if it's an extension of your hand.

Beltram's sword did a great job and it felt the same way, but even though this sword wasn't adjusted for me, it was as if I'd given it up for me.
