Dream Life

Episode 77: Shadow Man

Tria Calendar October 12, 2017, around 4 p.m.

We rescued Luna, a messenger from God in the village of Thysek, and we were aiming for Thornbrough, an accomodation town along the streets of Ars.

In about two hours I would be completely engulfed in darkness, but the town was still far away and the situation was whether I would make it to the critical sunset even if I walked normally.

More critical than that is that the enemy's main unit is approaching.

I hear more than a hundred oak roars from a position not so far away. And that's definitely close, and we'll be caught up in less than an hour as it is.

If we're alone, even if we're surrounded by about a hundred orcs, it's not impossible to break through if we stand around well. However, while protecting Luna, it will be difficult to deal with even if the enemy pushes against the May Rain Ceremony.

I left Luna to three men, Dan, Mel and Sharon, to join Liddy and Beatrice in a ploy to stop the enemy.

Beatrice, the first to agree to this measure, opens his mouth after Dan and the others run away to the west.

"Well, how do we stop it? I guess you're thinking of something, huh? Is that the magic of the Dark Butterfly you used against the bandits before?

Shake your head "wearing" at Beatrice's inquiry.

"Just like the Knight of Welburn, I don't think Black Butterfly Circle Dance (Spanglewaltz) works"

Dark attribute magic is magic that acts on the spirit. As a result, it is very ineffective if you are manipulated by drugs or magic. In fact, it had little effect when fighting a knight manipulated by drugs in Welburn, the northern city of the Caerm Empire.

"So what are you going to do?

I didn't answer that question directly.

"The Orcs were chasing Luna like crazy. Why do you think?

Beatrice said, "I don't know," and shook her shoulder.

"Liddy noticed that the powers of the Dark Spirit are unusually strong around Luna. It would have gone dark when I panicked in the village. Ever since then, the dark spirits have been making so much noise."

Beatrice snorts but speaks doubts.

"You did get so dark that it was suddenly night then. But how does that relate to orcs?

"Orcs are originally demons of dark attributes. Besides, if you're manipulated by the dark attribute magic used by the Demons, it's not strange to overreact if they show you all that dark dark power. I mean, I think it feels like I'm drunk with a stronger force."

Liddy nods loudly.

"Right. Even I'm going to be fascinated, so it's possible that you're a demon of the Dark Class."

Even Beatrice, who is not a magician, seems to have intuitively understood the image.

"I see... even so. How are you going to use that?

"I was thinking while running earlier," he replied to Beatrice's question,

"If I gather the power of the Dark Spirit, I think the Orcs will come over here. I'm going to magically illuminate them..."

Here's what I thought:

If the orcs feel the power of the Spirit as they feel the sound and smell, is it blinding to them by placing something that feels the same before them? If you put a moth light in front of a moth that gathers in the light of the house, it's like gathering in it.

Fortunately, it's time for the Dark Spirit to begin to be full of power. Dark attribute magic makes it relatively easy to gather strong power. If you flaunt it, you'll be able to deflect the attention that's right for Luna.

"But then the orcs will come to you. It's more than two hundred, by the way! It's impotent!"

Liddy says so and strongly disagrees.

"I disagree, too. I'm a magical amateur, but isn't it hard to keep gathering spiritual power for a long time? Even spells don't keep being chanted in battle. They'll catch up to you soon enough, even if you attract enough or twenty minutes. Then maybe we should think of another way."

I expected you to say that.

"I have an idea about that. There's a way I don't have to get stuck myself. Besides, I can manage until sundown. The biggest question is whether it will work. It's possible that gathering the power of the Dark Spirit won't help. If it doesn't work, you'll have to cross with 200 orcs on your own."

The roar of oak is approaching. I thought I was wasting any more time, and I broke up the argument.

"I don't have time. Liddy snipes a guy from the top of a tree who ignores his bow and magic and falls out. Same goes for Beatrice. Get in the way of the guy who's going to lurk in the bush and fall out."

Liddy's face is that he's not convinced yet, but when Beatrice says, "If you think you have a chance, I'll get on it, for that matter," and heads to the bushes of the trees, Liddy has no choice but to hook the rope to the branches of the trees nearby and then climb.

He turned to me when he climbed halfway up. The expression was stiff and had an impressive contemplative eye.

"If you can't, think about burning the woods. Whatever happens, you run away."

The guardian elf of the forest spoke of burning the forest. I guess you're worried I won't be unscrupulous.

"I know. Whatever burns the woods, I'll think of my next hand"

That's what I said, hands up gently, and to prepare for the magic, I headed somewhat to the open place.

The sun is leaning and the orange light is slipping in from among the trees.

I am satisfied that there is a long shadow at my feet and it is sufficiently thick.

(bump production... if you can't figure it out, there's no hitter...)

"Night and peace, God of darkness (Noctis). Give me the will to be my own person. I will not give you the power of my life at that price. Wake up, Impact Master! Shadowstoke!"

When you finish casting the spell, the shape of the shadow stretched out at your feet changes. 3D so that the long stretched tip would lift, and a black human form would appear like the one that took a picture of me. It is black, but it captures not only the shape of armor and helmets, but also the fabrication of the face, like a statue made of black charcoal.

The shadow that looks like me turns slowly like a heel back. And as I instructed, he started walking north.

The shadow enters the bush showing a walking motion, but no grass or tree branches move, and the shadow body goes bare. It was about fifty m away in less than a minute because the obstacle also proceeded linearly regardless.

The magic I used this time, but the magic that gives orders to the shadows and moves autonomously.

This magic, but it came from a certain magical failure.

Initially, I was going to create a magic called "Shadow Clone" with combat abilities. I imagined it differently from the shadow figure of ninjaku, but I was tipped that I was always solidifying myself in black gear, and I thought it might not be uncomfortable to separate the shadows.

But no matter how I could object the shadows, I could only do things that had no entity. It does not possess any means of attack because it cannot be allowed to carry a weapon from the absence of an entity, nor can it release magic from the shadows. If I could share sensations such as sight and hearing, I could use them for reconnaissance, but they were exactly the same as normal (...) shadows, no sensations, etc., and I couldn't think of an effective use.

It's just magic that the shadows are just coming out (stalking).

Still, because this shadow-stalk looks just like me in the long run, I thought it might work for you, so I gave it a name and thought about the spell.

This magic, no fighting power, but it has its advantages.

There is very little magic (MP) required by the Spirit of Darkness because there is no entity and there are no effects such as heat or paralysis. They are also autonomously controlled like swallow-winged blades (swallow cutters) and black butterfly circular dances (spanglewaltz), so if they give clear instructions, they will act on their own. In other words, if you just let them wander around appropriately, you don't have to turn to consciousness, and you can use it without so much concern for the consumption of magic.

In this case, the point is that it continuously supplies the power of the Dark Spirit.

As you can see here, magic gathers the power of the Spirit at the expense of the Magic Power of the Operator (MP) when activated, but it does not become magic after entering the body of the Operator.

To put it plainly, magic that produces phenomena such as balls of fire (fireballs) continues to consume magic during activation. However, this created phenomenon continues to be supplied with the power of the Spirit directly to the phenomenon without going through the operator.

At this point, the sorcerer needs to continue to give the Spirit an MP in consideration, but instead of the sorcerer receiving immediate power from the Spirit, the Spirit's power is supplied against the flame, which is a phenomenon.

From this idea, as long as I keep giving the Dark Spirit MP, the power of the Dark Spirit will continue to flow into the shadows I make. In other words, the power of the Dark Spirit that Liddy said should be able to create a dark state.

I don't see the power of the Spirit clearly, but I feel the power of the Spirit flowing into the shadows.

(Sounds like you can handle it. The only problem is this guy's scope of action......)

The effective radius of this shadow displacement (shadowstoke) is only about 100m. If you leave any further, you will lose contact with me (the path) or you will disappear on your own.

In other words, even if it works, the orcs are within 100 meters of me, and we'll be surrounded by more than two hundred orcs.

I wouldn't be willing to lose one-on-one if I were an orc, but if Beatrice and I fought as an avant-garde, and Liddy as a rear guard, the limit would be to deal with five or sixty at a time, even on the condition that they wouldn't be turned around sideways or backwards. Even if Mel and the others were there, the results wouldn't be so different.

It's a counter-disciplinary measure that you shouldn't be surrounded while attracting orcs.

(I wish I could just take the oak to the back of the woods by myself, but I would never admit it. If those two......)

With that in mind, I hide myself in the nearby bush. However, considering that the orcs did not hang on to my measures, I am choosing a place not so far off the road.

A few minutes later, the orcs showed up from the bushes.

More and more as they sprang between the trees and out of the bushes, either because they have gone straight through the shortest course in the woods without using the road.

Those orcs, like the twenty they defeated earlier, are all roaring like crazy. Orcs with stamina far above humans, but because they had already been running for a few hours, their breath was rough and their nose erupting from the characteristic pig-like nose made a whistling sound.

When I came about fifty meters away, I exhaled relief.

The orcs took off course to the west and started heading towards my shadow.

(The first stage is success. How to buy some time later. How do we get away with this...)

I had placed the shadow over the branches of the trees. The orcs will kill that big tree, but they don't have the dexterity to climb the tree together, and they can only stick to the thick trunk. He pushed one after the other from the back, making it look like a huge pressed crust bun. For this reason, the oak in the front row is succumbing to the pressure and raising a bitter growl. That was the tree spirit in the quiet woods.

If you look at it better, you know it's a shadow, but you still don't realize it's fake because you've gathered the power of the Dark Spirit to strengthen it and the fact that the Orc doesn't have very good eyesight, or even runs wild with the Dark Spirit.

But not all orcs went to the shadows. In a small number, some continued to run west, ignoring the presence of shadows. Maybe I didn't notice the orc running along the road the other way because it kept the shadow off the road. That number is about twenty. Those orcs were about to rush down the road to Thornbrough.

Both Liddy and Beatrice have already noticed and have told them they will attack with a hand sign.

Looks like the two of them are going to launch an attack where they enter the blind spot of the orcs who are going to kill in the shadows so the other orcs don't notice. I'll be magically prepared to support you while I watch my distance, too.

At first, I didn't know what Liddy was going to do. In the deep woods, trees are disturbed and ineffective by blade tornadoes (tornado slashes), heavy storms (tempests), and water attribute snow storms (blizzards), which are the range magic she is good at. Single-shot magic includes light arrows (shining arrows) and whirlwind blades (windblades), but is not powerful enough to inflict fatal injuries. That's why a powerful single-shot magic, such as the Ice Column Spear (Isicle Lance), is not conducive to continuous fire. Because despite the situation, he was trying to use magic, not to set a bow.

(What are you doing, Liddy?... I see...)

Shortly after that, I could read her intentions.

The power of the Spirit of wood attributes gathers around Liddy.

Looks like she's going to use the big tree she climbed and stick out the pointy roots of the tree at the foot of the oak.

This magic, but the original magic, named Pile of the Roots, a pile of hard roots, is one of the few range attack magic in the magic of the wooden attribute, with dozens of piles popping up 10 cm long with pointed tips and about 3 cm in diameter at the root. It was originally created in the image of traps used by guerrillas in the jungle and elsewhere, pansy stakes - traps with diagonally cut bamboo and trees embedded in the pit.

This magic, it has little killing power, but it's pretty effective at stopping. Especially bipedal man-shaped demons have a lot of load to hang on the back of their feet, and unless they have hard feet like hooves, they have a good chance of hurting their feet. Originally combined with the magic of the earth attribute magic pit (pit), it makes it look like a real pansy stake, but if you are a magician as good at wood attribute magic as Liddy, you can use this magic alone as enough attack magic because you can get the pile out to strike it off the ground. Most importantly, it is based on a single attack magic that strikes out a single root called a hard root spear (root spear) like a spear, so its use is closer to the prototype.

The beast path the orcs follow is full of grass and hard to see at their feet. Probably chose this magic to take advantage of the situation.

By the way, this magic, but I like the fact that it doesn't need to be removed after it's no longer necessary. After a certain amount of time, the roots of the trees are powerless and the roots of the trees that have come out on the ground make it easy to end them. If you do this with a rock spear (Rockspear) of earthly attributes, you will leave a trap behind and later annoy the irrelevant who goes through it.

I don't see how much area Liddy has created the pile in, but about half of the twenty fall out of a cry out.

(That's just great. If you know the passage, this magic works. Leave it to Beatrice later and she'll figure it out...)

The rest of the oak was fleeing the ordeal because he was off the road trying to avoid the oaks groaning and squatting at the pain.

Ten orcs forcefully thrust through the bushes of the trees at their disposal.

Suddenly, one orc goes down screaming. From the shadow of a fallen oak appears Beatrice with a spear and an invincible grin.

The orcs strike at Beatrice in unison.

At the next moment, Beatrice's spear tip emitted a dazzling light.

Orcs who had forgotten me, but stopped moving for a moment to its force. Beatrice didn't miss that gap, adding a series of strikes that left residual light to the orcs. The thrust accurately captured the oak's throat, burying three oaks in an instant.

My buddies are instantly defeated, but the Orcs' wars remain flourishing, and as they surround Beatrice, they shake up their swords and strike. From my position it looked as if she had been swallowed by an oak wall, but as the orcs' disconnectors sounded, the oak wall collapsed.

And all that remained was the figure of Beatrice, who had returned blood after all the orcs had fallen. With a satisfying grin, he gently raised his spear and disappeared into the bushes of the trees.

(You're still amazing. I guess I speared it off, but I didn't have time to support it... but even though I switched to divine spears, it's almost instantaneous with ten orcs. It took Dan and I almost two minutes...)

I feel like I could easily take down even two hundred if I go at this rate, but it's not that easy. Beatrice's divine spear has a fairly short time to use. For about five minutes in a row, four times is the limit when used intermittently.

Because of the low amount of magic power (MP), it does not mean that Beatrice is particularly low. Except in special cases, the Beast Nation is said to have a racially low magic holdings. In fact, being a magician, I can only spend about half the time compared to Mel and Dan. Of course, I'm strong enough not to have to wrap up magic, but I really needed to wrap up magic to defeat a demon with thick skins like an oak with a twisted attack.

(Now think about what happened after the shadow disappeared...)

While monitoring the orcs' movements, they began to think of a means of escape.
