Dream Life

Episode Fifty: Dan's Agony

February 1st.

I received a letter from Master Zach. And I'm very worried right now.

I'm 23 years old, too. And as a minister of the Viscount Lockhart family, and as a son of the Ser Jakes family, he has a great responsibility.

My father Guy will also be fifty this year. I'm still in the woods fine, and I don't see any signs of my sword or bow fading. On the contrary, like our predecessors, we still continue to level up.

As for the housekeeper, he says he'll give in when I get married, but he doesn't seem to be going to hide out yet.

We're talking about that marriage, but it's moving on once and for all.

The target is Elena, Eleanor Masefield.

I've been with her for over eight years already. In the meantime, all I could see was Mel, and he kept favoring me.

Elena is twenty-three years old, just like me. As the son of a knight, he was old enough to say he was late, but he still waited for me.

I started living away from that Mel, and after about a year I finally got organized into feelings.

So I made up my mind to marry her early this year.

And he tells her about it and promises to head over to the Masefield family near Wellburn in the spring.

I can't forget what she looked like then.

Even though he was usually temperamental, he couldn't say anything only then, he zeroed his tears, and at the end of the day he hugged me and cried. When he calmed down a little, he laughed at me with an embarrassing face.

I really wanted to live for her then. [M]

That's when a letter came from Master Zach.

The letter said that an enemy demon clan of the gods had been found near Riccadale, and that he wanted a hand to defeat that enemy.

I don't think you need me at Zach's party. In swords it is inferior to Mel, even in bows it is inferior to Mr. Lydia.

The letter said you needed my ability as a scout. [M]

Scouts are my only stunt, but they're not very good for Beatrice or Zach either.

Surely I would be the most fit of the Lockhart family scouts. If you're simply exploring the signs, Father and Mr. Hector are better, but they're both physically tough to keep up with the Zacks.

I'm not sure I can keep up with Zach and the others today, but I'm still younger than the two of you.

The first time I saw this letter, I was happy. I thought there was still a place for me among them. [M]

But I soon got angry.

Because I felt strongly “why if I could finally forget”.

I talked to my father first.

When I showed him the letter, my father hardened his expression and thought about it. And then he looked at my face and asked me, "What do you want to do?"

I thought that was what I wanted to know and talked to you about it, but I didn't say anything about it and just replied, "I don't know".

"Well," my father said,

"Dear Hall, you should talk to your predecessors. If Master Zach thinks he's as dangerous as he wants to be with you, it means that the enemies of the gods are more dangerous opponents than ever. The Lockhart family may have to respond with all their might."

You're absolutely right. My thoughts had gone only to my feelings, and I had lost sight of the great purpose of protecting this world.

I'm always like this.

I can't even think about the Lockhart family, the home, thinking about my feelings all the time. I haven't been able to grow up for long.

When I snorted at my father's words, I went to the castle.

Upon entering the castle, many visitors were in the hall.

Merchants such as the Kingdom of Kaum and Pericritle, but also other noble ministers of the Empire.

Lockhart Castle has been constantly visited since Master Zach built it. Because it is a beautiful castle and a lot of ingenuity and is indispensable to the seeds of the story.

As a result, many people deliberately took to the village on errands passing through Ars Avenue.

I go in in in my everyday clothes, but the people here know I'm the Jakes man, and they smile and greet me.

Especially the merchants I think of as Master Zach's belly, who have shown their faces to my house many times with gifts.

"Dear Jakes, could you please give us some time after this?"

"No, no, no, why don't we talk about the Empire tonight, leaning in with us?"

I hear voices from a lot of people, but I'm like, "I'm sorry. I have to go to your hall," he said, turning down, passing between them.

Not as good as Master Zach, but people keep trying to get into me. You can't make a big deal out of me, but you don't know that. [M]

When I arrived in front of your office on the third floor, there was Ricky Burton, a squire standing upright immobilized with a spear in his hand.

"Is your palace dealing with visitors?," Ricky didn't break his serious look and told me, "No, I'm alone now," he said.

Breathe in front of a fine door, knock, and say, "It's Dan. I need to talk to you," he says.

"You can come in," I said, leaving, so I'm going in.

The office faces south and overlooks the village of Rasmore thanks to the large glass window made by Master Zach. It's midwinter now, so it's bright white on one side, but with a soft winter light, a clean shade was drawn.

To the extent that it seems pretty to me, Master Zach said the view from the castle was the best, and he drank alcohol at a spire that often serves as a viewing platform.

The paperwork was looked at by the concierge.

"It's about the letter from Zach," you said. They had arrived not only at my place, but also at the palace.

If you think about it, it's obvious.

I declared that I would live as a minister of the Lockhart family, away from the Zacks. If you want me to lend you a hand, it's natural for you to talk to your master. [M]

I was so upset that I didn't realize this. [M]

"So, what do you want?"

Your palace was asked with a stiffer feeling than usual.

"To be honest, I don't know what to do."

"Well," you say, but I won't talk to you any more.

"I talked to my father, and I was wondering if the situation was so bad that Master Zach would think about calling me. If so, I wasn't talking about me going, not going, I was told I had to discuss what I should do as a Lockhart family minister."

"That's what Guy said... right. Certainly the whole Lockhart family, no, it's all about those who live in this world. If as many enemies as Vlad, King of the Undead, appeared, it would be tough for the Lockhart family alone to move."

So I wondered what Master Zach had told the Miyagi. I was just wondering if I could ask that.

The Master told me the contents of the letter.

"Zach has told us that the enemy is comparable to that Vlad Varonos, plus that the Great Demon (Greater Demon) was under his control, and that there could be other families. On top of that, I think we should be more vigilant around the village. And, Dan, he wants me to lend you. However, it was added that if I thought I could do so."

"So should I go to Master Zach? Or should I hit village alert?

The Master did not answer my question clearly. [M]

"The same goes for the area around Periclitle, but the area is very calm now. No major damage has been done on the streets of Ars, and the forests and the mountains of Aquila are quiet. That's what you know best."

I snort loudly.

"Yes, the demon thinning is working, and I don't think there's a problem with it"

"Same goes for me. You don't have to be aggressive in this situation..."

I'm in the woods like every day, but I don't see any anomalies at all. I have been more vigilant than ever, especially since we talked about demons coming down around Periclitle and Riccadale around last summer, but still this area is as usual, with little damage from demons.

The story of your hall continued.

"... I'm more concerned about Periclitle than I am here. More clearly, I was wondering if something would happen where Luna is. As you will remember, Vlad attacked because Luna was there. The undead came down the mountain after her. For example, the next person to be targeted is Pericritle. And it would be Rickadale in front of it."

"I think so too"

"Zach is thinking of doing something on our own. So that there is no danger in this village...... if we are to be full, it is safer to move Luna from Periclitle to here, including Zach, and to cite and defend the total power of the Lockhart family. But I haven't said a word about it."

That's what your palace said, and he turned to the window.

"He likes this village. I never really got tired of seeing this landscape..."

So he turned to me. [M]

"I know it's bad for you, but can you help Zach? Please."

That said, I bowed my head. [M]

I panicked.

"Please raise your face!

"I know you suffer. But I need your help to protect Zach. I also thought about whether there was another way. But I couldn't think of anything..."

I stood by that word. [M]

Trying to do what you can for your beloved lord, the Hall.

"Okay. We're headed to Rickadale."

"I'm sorry," you say, but the expression is distorted due to distress.

I can't help but smile to ease your feelings. [M]

"When I come back from Rickadale, I (...) intend to marry Elena. Of course, I would like to say hello to Maysfield's parents... but I would love to hear from you at our wedding."

I usually say "I”, but only then did I say “I” for the first time in a long time.

Did your palace also understand my thoughts, soothed my expression and said, "I'll give you my best greeting".

After I left the office, I headed to my predecessor.

My predecessors were watching the vigilante training at the training ground with Mr. Walt.

You should be turning seventy soon, but just like when I was a kid, I sent a tough glance at the vigilante, and he's drunk out loud when he's a little lazy.

It was time for my training, so I decided to wait there. [M]

In front of me, my five-year-old or so was desperately waving a wooden sword. The harsh words of my predecessors are flying and tearful.

(I miss you. That being said, it was over fifteen years ago...)

I was thinking about the first time I attended training. I don't have any more memories of the time, but I only have a clear memory of what my predecessors were afraid of and couldn't help it.

At the end of the training, speak to your predecessors.

"I have a letter from Master Zach. He wanted me to come."

The previous generations didn't seem to know about the letter and are asked, "When did you come?"

"It arrived earlier. I've already reported it to your hall."

"Right. That doesn't mean we got a big guy in Riccardale."

"Yes, it looks like a demon following the Great Demon (Greater Demon). He said that both Master Zach and Mr. Beatrice felt as strong as Vlad."

"Well, as strong as that Vlad..." he growled.

"If there's anything we can do," Mr. Walt said.

"I'm sorry, but I need to talk to you about Zach and the others. I need a favor from you..."

So it was unusual for my predecessors to mumble.

"Zach will try to solve the problem on his own so we don't get annoyed."

"Yes, I agree"

"So I'm asking you to send me some information as appropriate. You, the scourge of the Lockhart family, will report the situation objectively. I can look at it and think about what Nong can do. I really need your report to do that."

As my predecessors said, Master Zach will try to solve it on his own. That's great, but if they lose their lives with it, we all grieve.

"Accepted. I will try to send the information I find out in due course."

"I asked for it."

That's what you said, he slapped me on the shoulder lightly.

Speaking to my father about reporting to the Miyagi and his predecessors, he said, "Really? Then do it without remorse". I don't care because this is the usual thing, but I feel like I have to say a little more.

The next day, I was given an exemption from reconnaissance and training that day and headed to the city of Kilnarek, where Elena was.

Kilnarek is a new city that has joined the territory, because the Mistress and Master Rod are staying alternately, and now Master Rod is acting for the Lords, and she is also here, the samurai of Master Rosary.

The Jakes family crest - wearing a cloak with a lion's crest with a sword and bow, so many people call me when I enter the city. Responding with your hands up to it, head to the Lords' Palace.

As soon as he enters the hall, he greets Master Rod and tells him that he is headed to Riccadale.

"Right. I'd like to go too..."

That's what clouds my face.

"Leave it to me. I think you can fight with confidence because I believe that Lord Zach will protect your territory."

"Right......" replies Master Rod, seemingly thinking of something.

After Mr. Rod's place, we headed to the private room where Mr. Rosalee was.

Rosalie was with Dean, who was three years old, as she gave up her eldest daughter, Lady Retisha, who was born at the end of last year.

Behind it stands Elena with Angie.

When I told her I was headed to Rickadale, Master Rosalie gave Elena a sad look when she saw her amazing face.

"Elena is pitiful," you say, but she immediately shook her head small to the side,

"But that Mr. Zach calling you means that's the only way"

And look me in the eye.

"Like talking properly with Elena before we leave. I asked for it."

Elena and I created an opportunity to talk alone.

I'll move to another room, but Elena won't look me in the eye.

"I'll definitely be back. Then we have a wedding. I took the liberty of saying hello to your palace."

"But..." I say, but I take that lip, holding her shoulder.

And with a slightly stronger hug, he said, "You don't have to worry. Because you're the one I love," he whispered.

So you calmed down a little, your blue eyes were a little moist, but your spine was stretched straight.

"Okay. I'm also the daughter of a knight's house. I know my fiancée, no, waiting for her husband is also the job of a woman in a knight's house."

"I don't know how long it will take, but it should be over in the spring. Then we'll go to Masefield as planned."

So I remembered something abrupt. [M]

(Didn't you say "flagging" to talk about marriage before the fight? I think Zach told me that story...)

A flag seems to be like a jinx where something happens when you say the word.

(You're going to scold me for saying this to Master Zach. Why are you flagging me! What...)

I thought about that, but immediately concentrate my consciousness on my fiancée in front of me.

"Rickadale is not that far away. Besides, with Zach and Lydia, it's usually safer than going to the woods."

My lies have been seen through, but she still smiled at me when she said, "Right."

I swore to my heart that I would definitely come back to see this smile.
