Dream Life

Lesson 59: The Great Demon (Greater Demon)

March 25th.

My grandfather and Dan went to scout the enemy stronghold. That's where I first saw the enemies of the gods.

The person had pitch-black wings like crows, and his skin was black like an African race. The moment the pitch-black man shows up, he feels its overwhelming power and the war runs.

Moreover, the man noticed us lurking more than five hundred meters away, pointing the demon at us. He was noticed even though he was hiding in a shield from being seen and using a telescope to monitor him.

Fortunately, the demon who came looking for us never found us and managed to escape, but it was unclear what method of detection we used, forcing us to reconsider what we were thinking - the operation of hiding in a shield and ambushing.

Returning to base, we assembled key members and began discussions.

I briefly explained what had happened earlier and asked everyone for their opinion.

"Did you find it at that distance," said Beatrice, surprised, "do you mean it's hard to ambush," Nicholas roars.

Other members also think with a difficult face.

In the meantime, Rod, brother with a resolute expression, speaks.

"I should have known from the beginning that you were a terrible enemy. Can't an ambush be done, but isn't there any change in the operation that draws the enemy in?

My grandfather also regains his usual audacity to his brother's fortitude.

"Right. Surely there is no change in our policy of fighting in our favor."

So he looked at me, and he said, "Will you sort things out for once?"

"Okay. Then I'll sort things out."

That's what I'm going to say. I'm going to organize the information in my head.

"First of all, the assumption that the enemy's ability to detect is low has collapsed. Plus the premise that the enemy leader can't move. But I don't think that means you can't destroy each one. At least the Grounddragons can't travel to this place right away."

"Mm-hmm. You're right. So what do you think we should do?

"Yes, if the enemy insults us and attacks us in small numbers, we will destroy each and every one of them in this place as we have done before. If you don't stay and attack us, why don't you go from here to that ridge and attack us from above, with the maneuver of sharpening the Great Devil and the Devil"

My idea was to beat the great demons and demons first, which is air force. The enemy's best balls are highly detectable and dangerous, but as we can see from our escape, the demon's own ability to defeat the enemy is low.

There are many other members of this time who can use bows besides Hector. Not only Guy or Dan, but also three of his squire Mark, Freddie and Jake are archers, so even with the exception of Liddy, six are archers of level forty or higher.

Also, arrows, which are consumables, are heavily secured in storage magic (inventory), and there is no risk that the arrows will run out.

These six will be joined by three magicians: me, Liddy, and Sharon. Have the archers tow us, and if we magically attack, we can defeat our enemies with some effectiveness.

The anxiety material is that the enemy's closest balls and winged demon-like men join the attack, but as far as fighting the Necromancer (Rich) the other day, they tend to insult the enemy. If you poke at that point, it will be possible to reduce the enemy's power.

"Well, that doesn't mean there's no change in intercepting here first. So, Hector, how's the right place for an archer?

"There are several rock shelves on the south slope. It's about fifty meters high, but it's a great place to help if your predecessors are going to be in the square below."

Liddy supplements Hector's words.

"If Zach builds an evacuation hole, he can withstand range attack magic. Of course, I assume you'll take the shield."

Rock shelves with no escape are resistant to single-shot attacks, but can be hit with a single screen against storm magic.

However, Range Attack Magic does not have weaknesses either.

When using massive magic, even demonic demons must be stopped. Because if you don't, you won't gather the power of the Spirit you need.

Also, the magical range of a commonsense storm system is about fifty meters. Unless attacked directly from the top, they are within the range of the rigid bows used by the Hectors.

Assuming you're in a horizontal position, Hector can definitely guess. So it's unlikely they'll be using range attack magic, but common sense may not make sense, Liddy pointed out.

"Fine. Zach, I need you to check the area later and make an evacuation spot I think you're the best. Does anyone else have an opinion?"

That's where Byron raises his hand. When my grandfather admitted to speaking, he began to speak in his usual heavy tone.

"You will burden Master Zacharias, but why not magically build an underground fortress"

"Underground fortress?," my grandfather says of his doubts.

"Yes, it's called a fortress, a measure to expand the base we have now and lure it there"

"I see. Their fighting power is a demonic system that's good at big demons and flying. Narrow the entrance and no dragons or cyclops will come in."

"Exactly. Plus, even if demonic demons attack, there will be no avant-garde. Can we fight in our favor?"

Byron's suggestion is sensible. The idea is to seal what the enemy specializes in, set a battlefield in their favor and bury the enemy.

If there's a problem, it's in terms of whether the enemy will go underground as we think. In common sense, it is unlikely that we will enter a place where we kill our own advantages.

We can only hope that the enemy will insult us.

"Zach, what do you say? Though I think Byron's suggestion is worth considering?

"Right. There are two problems. One is whether our enemies will come in the way we think."

"Right," my grandfather nods.

"I think it's going to hang on to the act that we didn't have teeth outside and ran in without stopping"

"Mm-hmm. If you do have a soil attribute magician like you, you can't build a massive basement. Because if you make it look like you escaped without resisting your enemies, you're unlikely to come after them."

"Fortunately, it's subtle, but the enemy is confident in their own power. If that makes you overconfident, you won't hesitate to go into a disadvantaged place either. It's not a solution to the problem to set up an operation on the assumption that the enemy is overconfident."

"Okay. But now I just have to think about it. So, what are the other problems?

"Yes. Second, it has a little to do with what your uncle said earlier. I mean, how far can I make it on my own? 'Cause halfway through it, it just turns out to be a bag rat."

I don't agree with you about that.

The base now digs about a metre wide and ten metres deep on the cliffs on the south side of the valley, making the five metres deep about five metres wide.

Given the battle, we need to dig about thirty meters further into the back.

In today's place, if they shoot fire attribute magic in from the outside, they'll do it with heat and acid deprivation, and for the magic of poison and paralysis to work.

It needs to be at least an L-shaped passage and stretched beyond the range of the fog of dark attribute magic paralysis (paralysis mist) or the cloud of sleep (sleep cloud).

"How much time do you need?

"It will take three days to create something of satisfactory size even to expand our current base. Naturally, in the meantime, I cannot join the attack"

If you just dig about thirty meters, it won't take a day. But you'll need three days to make room to fight behind it and even make an escape passage.

If my enemies attack me in three days, I will intercept them with my Magic (MP) consumed. I'm just wondering if my grandfather would approve of a situation where I'm not all good enough.

As expected, my grandfather was slightly troubled. But I immediately raised my face,

"If you want to think about how to lure your enemies in the future and wait for them to arrive, you should have measures in place to take advantage of them."

That's all I'm saying, turn your gaze on me,

"Ask for underground expansion. I'll leave the shape to you. You're probably the best person I know."

So toward all, I declare forcefully.

"There is no change in the policy of defeating enemy scouts! I'll do anything to increase your chances of winning, even if the Grounddragons arrive here early! If you do, you won't win."

The policy was decided, and everyone moved on.

Hector and the Archers will use the rock to create a shield so that they can hide themselves on the rock shelf. Walt and the others had removed stones that were likely to be taken off their feet in order to improve the scaffolding of the ground area, further confirming where to evacuate if they were shot with magic from above.

Guy and Dan took turns watching and set up a system to give signals when scouts approached.

Liddy and Sharon are alternating to hide themselves on the rock shelf to intercept an approaching enemy.

Apart from them, I quietly dig tunnels in the back of the base.

The aisle was made about two meters wide. This is the size of the winged demons that can only get in one at a time, but we can manage to get them in line. The height is about three meters, thinking about waving the sword.

Continue digging holes by yourself and when the magic power (MP) is halved, lie down on the simple sleeping table to restore magic.

This way, even at the worst of times, half the MP remains, so we can fight with magic.

It's not something we do where our enemies could strike, but we're taking off our armor to increase the efficiency of our rest. Thanks to this, MP is recovering at about 10% per hour.

As a result, I intend to continue the cycle of working for an hour and taking five hours off, day and night. If we do well with this, we'll be able to finish it more than a day ahead of schedule.

Day one, the demon showed up twice while I was working, but they're all shooting off with the magic of Liddy and Sharon. I was focused on my work, and until I was taught at dinner, I never noticed.

After dinner, it was time for me to rest except for the watch, but I was still going to keep working on it.

I saw that, and Liddy said, "Are you okay with using magic in the middle of the night? I've heard."

"I'm fine. If you can sleep for five hours, it's no different than when you're sleeping. And I'm not doing my job. The body is easier than usual."

"But don't push it," Mel said with a worried face, Sharon nodding the same way.

"I didn't force it. And if we don't make it up as soon as possible, we might not make it. We're all hanging in there, so I'm just gonna do everything I can."

That's what I said and headed to the back of the tunnel.

The excavation for thirty meters, which hits the aisle on the first day alone, is over. Part of the room for the showdown and about forty metres of escape route will be completed, as we can work twice by tomorrow morning.

Not all night, but short sleep and continuous use of magic induce mental fatigue. But this basement, or the underground labyrinth (dungeon), is what we need as insurance.

Work will continue silently the following day, March 26. Liddy and the others are coming to see how it goes with the lunch slip, but the situation outside doesn't seem to be very good either.

"The Great Devil and the Devil were flying together. I refrained from attacking on Govi's orders, but maybe they found me..."

I expected them to let out the Great Demon because they're not stupid either. If I had, I could have attacked you, but Liddy and Sharon's magic threatened to lack decisiveness over the Great Demon, and my grandfather wouldn't have ordered the attack either.

At that time, the Great Demon had been swirling over the sky many times, and it was possible that some trace had been discovered.

I try not to look unnatural, but I would have no choice but to find it because I do a lot of fine work, such as installing shields and developing scaffolding.

"If they find us, we can't help it. Perhaps we can strike out of our minds next time."

"Right. But which do you prioritize? I'm sure it's a demon, but I'm not sure it's a big demon."

"Magic should focus on the Great Demon. Tell Sharon in particular to focus on the wings. Perhaps, but the Great Demon cannot be defeated by magic. You should pull it down to the ground and leave it to your grandfathers."

"What do demons do? It's a hassle to let them get away."

"It's the same if you're suspected anyway, even if you get away with it. Depending on where you're flying, if you're in Hector's range, attack with a bow. If you're out of range, it feels like a magic attack after taking away the Great Demon's mobility."

"Okay. I'll tell Govi that. Don't push me, either."

So after you kissed me, Liddy walked away.

Then underground expansion will be carried out in the same way as yesterday. It shall be the part used for the showdown, creating a square five metres wide and twenty metres deep in the deepest part.

The ceiling is about five meters taller than the aisle. This is an idea for effective use of our magic.

The entrance is narrower than the passage, making it about a metre wide, from which it feels gradually spread. This can be attacked in multiple ways from here, but to make the enemy a structure that only lets them in one at a time.

I haven't even made it yet, but I'm thinking about installing a rock plate for shielding and designing it to prepare for a magical attack. He wants to set up a trap if he can afford anything else, but it will depend on the enemy if he gets around to that point.

At dinner that day, it was intended to hold a final consultation on the future policy, but that happened abruptly.

Around 4pm before dinner, resting in the base's simple sleeping area, I felt somewhat noisy outside. If the enemy's attacking, they're supposed to contact me, but no one's coming. I was curious, so when I went outside, my grandfathers were fighting the Great Demons.

"Walt comes from the right! Nicholas is in the front with his shield! Beatrice and Mel poke a gap and attack freely! ……

Apparently, the Great Demon hurt his wings with Sharon or Liddy's magic, walking closer without flying in the sky. There was a demonic shadow in the sky, but it was pierced and crashed by Sharon's magic and the arrows unleashed by Hector's men.

The Great Demon, but only with a “Greater" and he looks compelling. It is easy to imagine that the muscular brown body is more than two metres long and more powerful than Walt or Byron.

The face has long dog teeth in golden eyes, two horns in the head, more like a Japanese ghost than a demon. It looks fierce at first sight, but its eyes make me feel intelligent, cunning from the mouth I'm laughing at.

The great demon slowly approaches me with an angry eye. I don't know if I had it hidden in my right hand, or if I could use storage magic (inventory), but I held a large sword about a hundred and fifty centimeters long.

The left hand was furthermore wrapped in flames, sometimes throwing flames at the Lockhart family warriors.

The Great Demon is considered a second-degree equivalent demon in the ranking of Adventurer Alliance. This means that the danger is comparable to that of a flying dragon (Wyburn) or a synthetic beast (Chimera).

For this reason, my grandfather seems to be handling it carefully as well.

"Who is your Lord?," my grandfather talks as he approaches.

We know the Great Demon can speak our language, and he seems to have thought about gathering some information.

Of course this has the aspect of buying time. The Liddies who beat down the demons are buying time to turn to cover.

But the Great Demon doesn't say anything just by raising the edge of his mouth.

"Interpretation, can't we talk like animals? Okay, let's get you out of here."

My grandfather decides that the Liddies can turn to support him and jump out of the rock he was shielding. More Nicholas was shielding forward, and Walt and Beatrice and Mel were moving to turn back.

Looks like my brother Rod and Byron were somewhere else, and they care about this one, but turn to those who are more wary if the enemy doesn't come or not.

For my grandfather, the Great Demon unleashed his magic unconstitutionally. A ball of fire (fireball) is a giant ball of flame over fifty centimeters in diameter. That flies at high speed. That speed was as compelling as a professional pitcher's direct ball combined with immensity.

My grandfather dodges the flame by throwing himself out. I don't think I'm sixty-eight years old. I don't think I'm going to make a sound of emotion, but the Great Demon's movements were sharper than that.

Shortly after he threw the flame, he burst into it.

My grandfather can't even follow that move.

"Danger!" someone screams, but his grandfather, on one knee, could only wait with his sword.

It looked like the Great Devil's sword would be sucked into my grandfather.

Welburn's Dwarf masterpiece, even armor made of misrills and ground dragon leather, was such a sharp slaughter that it seemed to rip them apart.

But the sword never reached my grandfather.

My grandfather swung up his favorite Adamantite bastard with one right hand and severed the Great Demon's arm.

Everyone thought it was settled. But the Great Demon puts his left hand wrapped in flames on his grandfather as if he didn't care about one of his arms or something.

This time they thought it was absolutely deadly.

But when Nicholas hits every shield and stops the Great Demon from moving, Walt and Beatrice's spears, who were spinning in from the side, pierce him at the same time.

My grandfather stood up and tried to stab a stop, but the hand stopped.

"Back off! Everybody, hide in the shadows of the rocks!

Shouting like that jumps into a nearby rock. Walt, Nicholas, Beatrice and Mel also moved without listening back.

My grandfather, Walt and three of Nicholas were able to escape into the nearby rock shade, but Beatrice and Mel, who were attacked from the back side, have no nearby rock.

The two are running towards the rock ahead, but not ten meters away from the Great Demon.

At that time, I felt an enormous amount of Spirit power being sucked into the Great Demon's body. And when I wonder if my body has swelled greatly, it disperses with the roar.

Beatrice holds Mel aggressively and rolls to the ground.

Stones and crushed rocks splash around them, and the surroundings become cloudy with smoke like water vapor, making the surroundings invisible.

The Great Demon has launched a suicide bomb attack at the end.

"Beatrice! Mel!" he goes out to the rocks screaming.

"Mr. Beatrice!" Mel's scream echoes.

Beatrice was getting rubble on her back, more blood from her head and moaning.

Immediately hang the healing magic.

Luckily, there were no direct hits just rock fragments on the head, mostly hitting the back protected by protective gear.

Still, there was a fragment of rock eating into the leather armor, and the impact seemed to be considerable. I'm going to do healing magic, but I can't get my consciousness back inside.

In the meantime I came down to the Liddy's as well.

When Liddy leaves Beatrice to me, she turns to her grandfathers.

"Take cover for me, for this..." Mel growls with tears in her eyes.

"I'm fine. There is no damage to the head or neck. The healing magic is working. Maybe he's just losing consciousness with a strong shock to his back."

Did you hear my words, Beatrice replies in a plundered voice, "Yes, I do."

"Are you all right? Tell me if you still have pain."

up slowly, paying dirt and dust to my words,

"It's okay. We Wang Tigers are sturdy. Are you okay with that?"

"I'm fine. Thank you."

We're both safe and relieved, but my grandfathers are more concerned and we're on our way there.

Seeing where the Great Demon was, despite the strange explosion of flesh, there are no pieces of flesh, blood paste, etc., just radial traces on the heart of the explosion.

From what I've seen, even with protective gear on it would have died instantly if it had been within a radius of five meters, and it would have taken a lot of damage if it had been within ten meters.

My grandfather had crawled out of the shadows of the rocks and was being treated by Liddy.

"Are you all right!," he said, pointing at his ear with a grunt, "Looks like he's been hit in the ear.

Walt and Nicholas were safe too, but couldn't afford that face, and they both had tympanic membranes done just like my grandfather.

Hanging healing magic on my grandfathers, I would check for injuries, but they were all done with about a ravage wound.

I asked my grandfather how he noticed the explosion.

"That was the last time I laughed. I thought I was up to something, so I gave you instructions... a terrible enemy..."

"I think so too. If it was that much of an explosion, one wrong step, everyone who was there was hit. I think it's horrible in a different way than undead."

I was impressed with the usually chilling Nicholas voice trembling.
