It was his first time out looking for a job, and he was a complete greenhorn, clueless about everything.

When he saw that the interviewer was just a young woman, his heart sank.

He had graduated over a year ago. After finishing the internship his university had arranged, he hadn’t been able to find another job.

He had finally found a research institute that seemed promising, only to find that his interviewer looked like a young woman who had just started college.

But considering his current desperate situation, Aaron Archer had no other choice.

Figuring he had nothing to lose, he sat down in front of Chloe Sinclair and handed her his resume.

Chloe Sinclair had already seen Aaron Archer’s general profile before she arrived, but now, seeing the detailed version, she was slightly surprised.

"Your resume says you have a Ph.D. Why didn’t you look for a more established laboratory?"

It wasn’t that she looked down on her own venture, but she currently had little more than an empty promise to offer. Aside from a vague concept, she couldn’t give Aaron Archer anything concrete.

Aaron Archer’s face grew hot, and a hint of shame crept into his expression. "I have. I couldn’t find one."

He had previously worked at one of the nation’s top-three biopharmaceutical research institutes, but he had resigned in less than two weeks because he couldn’t stand the work environment.

Chloe Sinclair’s question felt like a public humiliation, and his heart pounded with anxiety.

After all, he had interviewed at dozens of institutes, big and small, over the past few months, and nearly every interviewer had asked the same question.

Every time they heard he was unwilling to sign his research findings over to the company or a professor, they would all look at him with disdain, scorning him behind his back.

He had expected Chloe Sinclair to be just like the others and look at him with contempt, but to his surprise, she was simply watching him with a gentle smile.

Aaron Archer froze.

Then, Chloe Sinclair spoke.

"I’ve read your resume. You graduated first in your high school, won first place in two separate biology competitions, and received the National Endeavor Scholarship twice. You’re brilliant."

It was the first time anyone had encouraged him like that. Aaron Archer stared blankly, shifting awkwardly on the small red sofa.

Before he could say a word, he heard Chloe Sinclair continue, "I’m the head of this research institute. In fact, I should tell you that my company hasn’t even been officially established yet."

The flicker of happiness Aaron Archer had felt was instantly extinguished, his smile freezing on his face. A storm of conflicting emotions churned within him.

He wanted to curse her out, but the sight of Chloe Sinclair’s placid expression made him hold his tongue. He waited silently for her to continue.

"The job posting was put up rather hastily. I didn’t expect anyone to apply so soon."

’After all, the salary listed in the online ad was only that of a typical intern.’

"But I can guarantee that the institute will be established before the end of the year. If you still want the job then, you’ll be our first official hire."

Aaron Archer’s interest was piqued.

But the thought of his dire financial situation made him hesitate.

In the next moment, however, Chloe Sinclair’s words completely erased his doubts.

"If you’re willing to join, I’ll pay you a full month’s salary starting now. Once you’re a full-time employee, your salary will double. And if you’re not satisfied with the environment here, you can resign at any time."

Chloe Sinclair had her reasons for saying this.

Before she came, she’d felt that the name Aaron Archer was strangely familiar. Just now, however, she had suddenly remembered the great biologist, Aaron Archer, from her past life.

She didn’t know him well. It was just that in the month before she died in her previous life, she had come across his name on short-form video apps and in trending topics online.

To research a cure for cancer, Aaron Archer had actually tested the drugs on himself. A few years later, a new anti-cancer medication was officially rolled out worldwide on a massive scale.

Aaron Archer was only twenty-five now. He wouldn’t change all that much in ten years, so Chloe Sinclair still had a faint impression of his appearance.

Still, she was a little surprised.

’She had assumed someone like him would have a life of smooth sailing. She never would have guessed his early career would be so bleak.’

’This was a talent who could rise from the ashes of adversity. She had to keep him, no matter what.’
