Chapter 374 - 204: Having Eyes but Failing to See

Although Master Su was a man who’d worked the land, he had seen more than his fair share of the world. Naturally, he noticed the change in Manager Li’s expression.

"Zhixin, what was the name of the room Xiaochen booked again?" Master Su asked, feigning confusion.

Although Su Zhixin didn’t understand his father’s scheme, he played along. "We booked two rooms. They’re called... Violet Qi from the East!"

The moment Manager Li heard those four words, "Violet Qi from the East," he felt his heart leap into his throat. If anyone had lifted his shirt, they would have seen his entire back drenched in cold sweat.

’Thank goodness I came out to see what was going on. If this situation had escalated, I would’ve been finished.’

He struggled to calm his racing heart, his attitude becoming instantly solicitous. He bowed toward Master Su and said, "You must be the esteemed Master Su. The rooms are all ready. Please, right this way!"

With that, Manager Li prepared to personally escort them to their private rooms.

He had been standing nearby yesterday when Su Chen and Yin Zheng were talking, and he’d heard everything clearly. Although it was for that Mr. Su’s father’s birthday, it was a family banquet, so naturally, only members of the Su family would be attending.

Su Zhixin had expected to argue with this Manager Li for a while longer. ’How did he just back down and admit defeat after only a few words?’

He couldn’t figure it out, but he decided not to overthink it. He would just follow his father to the room and ask what was going on later.

But he had barely taken two steps when a harsh voice rang out, "Manager Li, what is the meaning of this?"

The wealthy woman, Xiaomei, directly blocked Manager Li’s path. Even the woman called Qin frowned.

"Xiaomei, can I please explain this to you later? Let me just escort these honored guests to their room first," Manager Li said, his tone pleading.

Anyone with half a brain would have realized by now that the situation was not as simple as it seemed. But some people, it seems, leave home without one.

"Did you think we were just blowing hot air? If they’re eating here, we’re leaving! And when we do, we’ll be sure to give your restaurant plenty of ’free publicity’ in our social circles!"

At these words, Manager Li, who had been so deferential just a moment ago, straightened his back. This was an ultimatum, and he already knew the right answer. If he made the wrong choice now, his career would be over.

"Supervisor Yang," Manager Li said, turning to the lobby supervisor. "Since these ladies no longer wish to dine with us, please show them out!"

At this, Qin and her two friends were completely dumbfounded. They had never imagined this would be the outcome.

Su Zhixin, on the other hand, was ecstatic. A smug smile spread across his face as he looked at Qin and her friends.

Their eyes met. The moment Qin saw the smug, gloating look on Su Zhixin’s face, which felt like a personal mockery, she flew into a rage and kicked a stool near the reception desk, sending it flying.

"Li Ming, I’m telling you! Don’t even think about keeping this restaurant open in Wudu!" Qin shouted, pointing a finger at Manager Li’s nose.

"Oh? Is that so?" a deep, resonant voice drawled from outside the entrance. "I’d like to see who’s got that much nerve."

Everyone turned toward the sound. When they saw who had arrived, Qin, her two friends, and Manager Li all trembled. Only Su Zhixin and his family looked on with curiosity.

A group of seven or eight people walked in, led by none other than Yin Zheng’s father, Yin Shan.

As a well-known magnate in Wudu’s business circles, how could Qin and the others not recognize him?

"Chairman Yin!" Qin and her friends said respectfully, walking apprehensively up to Yin Shan.

Unfortunately for them, Yin Shan didn’t spare them so much as a glance, walking straight toward Master Su instead.

As they were entering, the sharp-eyed Yin Zheng, who was walking behind his father, had recognized Su Zhixin and immediately deduced the identity of the elderly man with him.

He had immediately explained the situation to his father, which led to the scene of Yin Shan’s stern rebuke just now.

"Master Su, hello! Welcome to Wudu!" Yin Shan said warmly, enthusiastically shaking Master Su’s hand.

Master Su now recognized the enthusiastic middle-aged man as well. After all, as a legendary figure in Wudu, he had seen him on television back in his younger days.

"Hello, hello!" Master Su said, forcing himself to appear calm.

"Master Su, let’s head to the private room to talk. It’s not right to keep you standing here."

Manager Li immediately rushed to the front to lead the way, guiding the group of a dozen or so people toward the private rooms.

Watching the group depart, Qin and Xiaomei felt as if all their strength had been drained, and they collapsed onto the floor. "How is this possible?" they muttered. "They’re just a few country bumpkins. Why would Chairman Yin be so warm toward them? He must be mistaken!"

"Yes, he must be mistaken!"

The words seemed to be a desperate attempt to reassure themselves, but eventually, they had to face reality.

The only one of the three who was relatively composed was Lili, who had remained silent the whole time. She was now regretting her inaction. ’Why didn’t I try to stop them in the elevator?’ she thought. ’I might have even been able to get on Chairman Yin’s good side.’

But alas... there was no medicine for regret in this world.

There was one other person who was feeling quite relieved: the lobby supervisor who had been about to suck up to the women. ’Thankfully I hesitated at the last second,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, the consequences for me...’

Supervisor Yang couldn’t help but shudder at the thought.

Seeing the two women still collapsed on the floor was bad for the restaurant’s image. Supervisor Yang’s eyes flickered, and he spoke up. "You two should get up. There’s no use sitting here looking miserable. You should go home and figure out how to salvage this."

His words snapped the two women back to their senses. They scrambled up from the floor, knowing that Supervisor Yang was right.

After leaving the restaurant, both women took out their phones and called their husbands.

After they briefly explained what had happened, the response they each received was an angry roar—"You useless, stupid sow! You’re only good for screwing things up!"—before being told to get their asses home immediately as the line went dead.

They had arrived so arrogant and high-and-mighty. No one could have predicted they would leave in such a pathetic state.
