Global Lords: My Territory Heart Is a World Tree

Chapter 242 - 148: What’s a Wild Eye Demon Doing Here?

’Why does this building look so out of place?’

It was the largest structure in the entire city, a full size larger than even the Lord’s Mansion.

It resembled the base of a tower. The structure was octagonal, appeared to be five stories tall, and had a massive footprint. Tapering toward the top, its highest floor was roughly two-thirds the size of its base.

Most importantly, as Lin Kong had the Rock Puppet circle it a few times, he couldn’t find a single window.

’No windows? What is this building for?’

’And why build it so big? What’s the point?’

’I’ve never seen any other lords with a building like this.’

Out of curiosity, Lin Kong had the Rock Puppet try to push the building’s door, but it wouldn’t budge.

’Forget it, I’ll go open it myself! This city has no creatures or traps... It doesn’t seem too dangerous.’

Lin Kong considered it for a moment and decided to check it out himself. He couldn’t get a clear enough look through the Rock Puppet’s eyes; he had to see it in person.

Lin Kong released his control over the puppet, hopped on his Floating Car, and zipped through the city gates toward the building.

A few minutes later, flanked by a dozen or so Druid guards, Lin Kong stood before the building’s entrance.

He had just circled the structure on his Floating Car and found that it truly was seamless—not a single crack. The only way in or out was the main gate.

’Looks like this is the only way in.’

The bizarre structure had thoroughly piqued Lin Kong’s curiosity. He was desperate to get inside and see what it was for.

He pushed and pulled on the door with all his might, only to find that no matter how much force he used, it wouldn’t move an inch.

’This heavy? Impossible!’

He then tried attacking it. A faint light flashed across the door’s surface, leaving it completely unscathed.

’Oh? Is there a Magic Array?’

Now Lin Kong was even more intrigued. It was rare to find a territory with a Magic Array; he had to take a good look.

Lin Kong channeled his Spiritual Energy and cast Spiritual Vision, shifting his sight to the spiritual plane.

He immediately saw a faint layer of Spiritual Energy coating the entire building.

In other words, either the whole structure had been enchanted with Magic, or it was covered in inscribed Magic Arrays.

As he tried to inspect the arrays, a wave of dizziness washed over him. Their overwhelming complexity made it impossible for him to distinguish one from another.

It was like a struggling student looking at advanced calculus; he could understand each individual symbol, but put them all together and it was complete gibberish.

Lin Kong was dumbfounded. He never imagined he’d find a Magic Array he couldn’t comprehend in some abandoned territory. So much for being a newly-promoted Senior-tier Druid with all high-level masteries. He’d set out on his adventure full of confidence, only to hit a wall at the first hurdle.

With no other option, Lin Kong called for backup.

"Main Body, I need your help! Come take a look at this!"

Upon receiving Lin Kong’s message, Lin Yu walked to the main throne in the Lord’s Hall and sat down. He then sank his consciousness into the Territory Core, merging with the World Tree.

In that instant, an old CPU upgraded into a photonic computer.

With the boost from his Main Body’s remote cloud-computing power, Lin Kong looked at the Magic Arrays again. This time, he saw them with perfect clarity. The tangled mess of lines instantly resolved into combinations of different basic arrays.

’This one’s an Energy Gathering Array, this is an Energy Storage Array, this is an Isolation Array, this one’s a Mind-Bending Array, and this is...’

The purpose of the building’s arrays was to absorb and store energy. They then used Spiritual Energy drawn from the air to reinforce the structure and prevent outsiders from peering inside.

Furthermore, they inflicted negative effects like mind-bending and magic suppression on anyone who entered without permission.

’Such a strange building. What on earth is it for?’

Now even more curious, Lin Kong walked to the door, formed a hand seal, and cast a spell on himself.

"Wait for me out here!"

He ordered the Druids, then nonchalantly passed straight through the main door and walked inside.

Inside the building, there was no light. It was pitch-black.

Lin Kong’s Extraordinary Body already possessed darkvision, so he could still make out the shapes in the darkness.

However, to see more clearly, he cast a spell to create a small mote of light.

When the light appeared, Lin Kong was hit by a tremendous mental shock.

It wasn’t an attack from the building’s inscribed arrays; he was simply staggered by the scene within.

A thick, deathly aura permeated the interior. Skeletal remains were scattered everywhere, filling the air with the stench of decay.

The skeletons were of all different shapes and sizes; a single glance was enough to tell they weren’t all from the same race.

’Who was this lord?’

’Did he collect the corpses of all his enemies?’

’Don’t tell me he was a Necromancer...’

’...Is this what a Necromancer’s domain looks like?’

Lin Kong scanned his surroundings in shock. The scene suggested the building was a kind of charnel house, but beyond that, there were no other signs pointing to a Necromancer.

’But if he wasn’t from the Undead Race, then why build a charnel house?’

Lin Kong couldn’t make sense of it, so he decided to explore the rest of the building.

TAP... TAP...

Lin Kong carefully picked his way around the skeletal remains on the floor, observing as he went. He saw nothing but bones.

However, things changed when he reached the third floor.

From the third floor upward, the variety of strange skeletons dwindled, replaced by a massive number of human skeletons.

’So... what makes the Human Race different from the races downstairs?’

Lin Kong continued upward, lost in thought.

He failed to notice that hidden beneath the piles of bones were mummified corpses.

Sensing the vibrations of his footsteps, these corpses opened their tightly shut eyes, silently watching Lin Kong—the lone figure of light in the darkness.
