“So that’s how it is. Then I won’t go in.”
Lin Ye certainly planned to enter—it was a golden opportunity to reduce the number of quasi-gods—but he intended to go in last, quietly picking off a few isolated ones.
“A wise choice.”
The black-shelled bug stayed close to the parasitic worm. Unlike the bug, a functionally specialized insectoid quasi-god, the black-shelled bug was a combat-specialized insectoid quasi-god. It didn’t think Lin Ye could withstand its attack.
But Lin Ye had made the bug unable to even escape—that gave the black-shelled bug some pause.
The foremost quasi-god had already stepped onto the giant continent. Right now, the giant continent was digesting that young man; until the young man was fully digested, this continent was safe.
The continent beneath the parasitic worm also approached the giant continent. The two continents seamlessly spliced together, and the parasitic worm felt its body lighten considerably, as if freed from some kind of constraint.
The quasi-god at the front opened that door. The door connected to a dark, long corridor, with strange paintings hanging on the walls on both sides.
That quasi-god entered the corridor and casually closed the door behind it.
The quasi-gods behind didn’t react particularly—they opened the doors one by one, entered, and closed them after going through.
Every time a door opened, it led to a different place: a barren wasteland covered in withered trees, a beach littered with countless corpses, the interior of an abandoned building, or even an empty, boundless void.
All the quasi-gods chose to pass through the doors and go to the other side. No matter what awaited them, none tried to open a door a second time. The quasi-god facing the void hesitated for half a second before stepping through the door and leaping into the emptiness.
The black-shelled bug ultimately decided not to prioritize killing Lin Ye. Instead, it opened a door as well, which revealed a pitch-black cave on the other side.
Only after all the quasi-gods had gone to the other side did Lin Ye command the parasitic worm to crawl over to the door.
“You still want to go in? Even if you do, there’s no guarantee you’ll run into those quasi-gods. It’ll just add risk. Wouldn’t it be better to stay outside, set traps, and wait for them to come out?”
Little Guardian appeared beside the door. She looked at the handle but made no move to open it.
“If I can get that thing, I’ll have an overwhelming advantage and can pull out anytime.”
Lin Ye stepped out of the World of Ashes and reached for the door handle.
He felt that not just anyone could open this door—he had to enter through a door he himself had opened.
“Once you get it, won’t you leave directly?”
Little Guardian guided the parasitic worm into the World of Ashes. Even if Lin Ye had strengthened himself to some extent, the enemies outside weren’t easy to deal with. Better to grab the item and run, then settle the score with these enemies when they met again later.
“No. I’m going to end this war.”
Lin Ye opened the door. On the other side lay an abandoned amusement park.
Some dolls in shabby costumes wandered among the rides, and colorful balloons floated through the gloomy sky.
Lin Ye stepped through the door into the amusement park, then casually closed it behind him.
After the door shut, it vanished, along with Little Guardian and the parasitic worm.
Lin Ye stood alone in the center of the amusement park, reduced to an ordinary person.
This wasn’t a limitation of his power—he had been reverted to the state he was in before entering the system shelter.
Even the temporary boost from his Special Ability had disappeared.
No system prompt appeared before Lin Ye’s eyes. He stood on the crumbling stone slab road like a regular human being.
“Man, it’s cold...”
Lin Ye felt the chill for the first time in a long while. The ambient temperature here was around freezing. If he weren’t wearing the Sacrificial Night, he might freeze to death on the spot.
A bear doll standing not far away seemed to notice Lin Ye. It wobbled its body and started walking toward him.
The bear doll was a full two meters tall, exuding a heavy sense of pressure.
Lin Ye looked around. The place was littered with broken-down rides. The amusement park was enormous, and he couldn’t even see the exit.
Without his mental energy, Lin Ye was a bit unaccustomed to this slow, deliberate thinking.
It felt like being mentally handicapped.
The bear doll had already closed in. It pulled a rusty half-meter-long firewood chopper from behind its back and stomped heavily toward Lin Ye.
“Alright, guess there’s no talking this out.”
Lin Ye turned and ran toward what might be the amusement park’s exit, moving just a bit faster than the bear doll. Unless the bear doll threw that firewood chopper, it couldn’t pose a real threat.
But soon, several more dolls emerged from behind the rides, trying to cut him off.
“Damn, is this fair? I’m the only normal one here?”
Lin Ye could only sprint faster. He had to find a way out before these dolls caught up.
After running for over ten minutes, Lin Ye still hadn’t found the park’s exit. The dolls seemed to have gotten tired and stopped chasing him.
‘Maybe there’s no normal exit here. I need to find a way to leave.’
Lin Ye stopped. His physical condition was average. Even though he’d been pacing himself to conserve energy, he was already getting tired.
‘Am I supposed to take some ride to get out? Or find another door to leave through?’
Lin Ye scanned his surroundings. He noticed the tiles of a nearby swimming pool had the words “Exit” written on them.
‘It’s actually in Chinese. So this place was generated based on me as an individual. But why an amusement park? I’ve barely been to one.’
The pool had long since dried up. Lin Ye jumped into it and ran his fingers over the tiled text, but he found no actual exit.
‘It can’t be that I need to slam my head against this to knock myself out, can it?’
Lin Ye pried up a loose tile and found a black smiley face painted underneath.
‘Huh? What does this mean?’
Lin Ye climbed out of the pool, grabbed a putty knife from a nearby vendor stand, then returned to the pool and used it to pry up the tile that said “Exit.”
There was nothing under that tile. But at its edge, there was a narrow gap.
Lin Ye forced the rest of the tiles apart, uncovering a circular passage behind them.
The circular passage was over a meter in diameter, pitch-black inside, leading who knows where.
Just as Lin Ye was thinking about whether to enter, he suddenly heard a faint rustling behind him.
Standing above the pool was a Jester Doll, staring at Lin Ye’s back with an exaggerated grin.
It had deliberately made that noise so Lin Ye would notice it.
Only interesting prey could pique its interest.
Lin Ye glanced back at the Jester Doll. Instead of entering the circular passage, he bolted toward the pool’s ladder at top speed.
