The room instantly fell dead silent, and a voice asked warily, "Who is it?"

"Captain, it’s me, Pine!"

The door was suddenly kicked open, knocking the scrawny man hard to the ground.

"Damn it, you scared the hell out of me! Next time state your name immediately!" A bald, burly man wearing an official uniform with a curved blade at his waist cursed at the scrawny man.

Aside from the other officers present, the table behind him was covered in fine wine, good food, peanuts, and melon seeds, there were even two beautiful, flower-like women sitting in the seats of honor.

"Yes, yes, yes, Captain’s reprimand is entirely just, it was me who didn’t understand the rules."

"This is a little token of my appreciation. I hope Captain can be magnanimous!" The scrawny man scrambled up wretchedly, pulled a tattered purse from his robes, and handed it over with extreme flattery.

Captain Gale took the purse, weighed it in his hand, and nodded in satisfaction. "At least you know the rules, speak, what is it?"

The scrawny man’s eyes lit up, and he proceeded to recount the incident with extreme grievance.

"What?! Someone actually dares to commit assault within the capital?! They are simply lawless!"

Upon hearing this, Captain Gale was instantly furious.

As constables, their job was to maintain public order, for someone to dare commit assault right under their noses was simply a slap in the face.

"Captain Gale, you must seek justice for me! You must catch that assailant and avenge me!" the scrawny man pleaded tearfully.

"Don’t worry, I will definitely catch that assailant, daring to commit assault within the capital of our Silver Willow dynasty is simply courting death!" the Captain declared with murderous aura.

"You said his purse was filled with spirit stones, right?"

Captain Gale’s righteous expression vanished instantly, replaced by sheer greed.

"Yes, Captain Gale!" The scrawny man nodded hastily.

"Brothers, stop eating! Let’s go, we’ve got a big score, once this is done, drinks are on me tonight at the Spring Radiance Brothel!" The eyes of the men behind him lit up one by one.

They grabbed their swords and eagerly stood up.

"Right, Captain Gale, should we call Old Man Roan to come along? Just in case the target is a trained martial artist," someone suddenly asked.

"Forget it, that guy is way too self-righteous, he might ruin our good thing later," another retorted.

Captain Gale stroked his chin, thought for a moment, and said, "Just to be safe, bring him along, once the matter is settled, we’ll find an excuse to send him away!"

"Yes, sir!" Someone responded and immediately ran off to fetch the man.

Subsequently, the group marched aggressively toward the location the scrawny man had mentioned.

Very quickly, they encountered Adam and Cecilia.

"Captain, it’s them! They are the ones who hit me!" The moment the scrawny man saw them, he pointed and shouted.

"Oh? So you’re the ones who assaulted someone?"

Captain Gale stepped forward with a fierce scowl, his gaze swept over Adam and Cecilia, and upon finding no fluctuations of spiritual energy on their bodies, he let out a deep sigh of relief internally.

"Yes," Adam replied indifferently.

"Good, do you know what the penalty is for committing assault within the Silver Willow capital?" Captain Gale said with murderous intent.

"Oh? What is the penalty?" Adam asked back unconcernedly.

"According to the laws of the Silver Willow dynasty, one who commits assault shall have an arm severed as a warning to others!" Captain Gale proclaimed righteously.

"And what about theft?" Adam was in no rush, asking calmly.

He had spotted a middle-aged man walking at the very back of the group.

The man was around fifty years old, yet his hair was completely white, and he was looking at Adam with a solemn expression.

This was Roan, his late father’s only friend.

After his parents passed away, Roan often came to visit and had given him a lot of help, however, after Adam went through various tumultuous events, in order not to implicate him, he had gradually cut off contact.

The very reason he made such a scene with a mere pickpocket was precisely to have Roan appear before him in a perfectly reasonable manner.

Otherwise, if he actively sought out Roan on his own, he would absolutely be targeted by the Nova and Ash Clans.

"According to the laws of the Silver Willow dynasty, a thief shall also have an arm severed as a warning to others!" Captain Gale stated.

"Then since he committed theft, is there any wrong in me severing his arm?" Adam smiled faintly, at the exact same moment, he used a secret technique to transmit his voice directly into Roan’s mind.

"Uncle Roan, it’s me, Adam."

Standing behind the crowd, Roan’s eyes instantly widened.

"Uncle Roan, don’t react, I fear someone might be watching you." As the voice rang out in his mind again, Roan swiftly forced his expression back to normal.

"Uncle Roan, tonight, go to the Horizon Inn, just find a random table to drink at, I have matters to discuss with you!" After delivering this final sentence, Adam cut off the transmission.

Roan’s expression remained entirely unchanged.

"Theft? Who saw him steal your things? We only saw you injure him!" Captain Gale sneered craftily, his gaze landing on the purse in Adam’s hand.

"Bring your purse over here and let me take a look, this purse is now criminal evidence and must be confiscated!" Captain Gale demanded with unchecked greed.

Adam glanced at him, then simply tossed the purse over.

Captain Gale caught it effortlessly, upon opening it, his eyes lit up brilliantly.

Good lord, there are actually twenty low-grade spirit stones in here! We really hit the jackpot this time!

Captain Gale rejoiced internally, he then looked up at Adam, his face twisting back into a fierce scowl. "Where are the rest? Take them all out! They are all criminal evidence!"

The corners of Adam’s mouth curled up, showing extreme magnanimity, he pulled out the rest of the purses, ten in total, and tossed them all to Captain Gale as well.

"That’s all of them, are we good?"

The eyes of Captain Gale and the constables nearly popped out of their skulls in greedy delight.

A full two hundred and twenty low-grade spirit stones! This was absolutely incredible! Watching from the side, the scrawny man was practically green with envy.
