Chapter 72: Monkey Warfare

Since the presence of this monkey group had hindered his Journey to the Heavenly side, he had been thinking of a way out, but now he seems to have found it.
With this clue as the opening factor, his mind started operating on another level, and he immediately started connecting dots.
’Those two monkeys must have been sent out as scouts, but they then saw me and decided to hang fun a little.’
’The Golden-furred Monkeys on this side are currently being attacked by those on the other side, and that actually explains the immediate tension that was there.’
’From the gorilla leader’s Expression it was obvious that he is currently tired of staying passively.’
’They are ready to fight,’
That observation kind of answered one question Morden had been worrying about since he had arrived.
Were the Beast not aggressive because they chose not to be, or are they not aggressive because something was forcing them not to be?
The answer would do a lot of good, and thankfully Morden could actually infer it now.
The Beasts chose not to be aggressive actively, but they can switch up when tested for long enough.
Not that he had gotten a little more hang of the scenario; he was much freer to make certain decisions.
’I should help this guy in their revenge.’
’That way I will be doing a good deed, and I will also be able to get Gene shards and maybe even grow my genetic tree.’
The Monkey leader looked at Morden with expectant eyes, awaiting his answer. Morden could also see that, so he began thinking of ways to show his acceptance.
’Should I just nod? No, that feels a little anticlimactic.’
’Ohhh, I know.’
He suddenly started materializing the Ghost Slayer again before stabbing it into the ground with a determined gaze.
Woooohooo!!!!!!
The Monkey lord made it while jumping excitedly. It seems he considered Morden a really important person.
Having confirmed that Morden was on their side and also up to date with their plans, the Monkey leader turned around and began Leaving that area.
’Finally, this stench is killing me.’
The two of them soon arrived back in the main settlement area, and almost immediately Morden noticed something was different in the vibes.
He wasn’t really sure, but if he were to attach an actual noun to what he was seeing, he would call it Chaos.
The monkeys were chattering louder; the muscular guards weren’t walking in a pattern anymore.
Morden looked at the Monkey Lord to see if he also noticed it, and without any surprise, he did.
’What are we going to do now?’
BANG!!!!
Morden suddenly heard the sound of a bow hitting a tree not too far away. That was a sign for one thing and one thing alone. The monkeys from the other side were here.
"We were just planning to come for revenge, but you came over to invade first."
"That’s really generous,"
After that first arrow had hit, more and more arrows came flying over. Most of them weren’t accurate, but it carried astonishing power.
"Ohhhh, I have forgotten that these guys could use a boost too."
Compared to the military skills of the Golden-furred monkeys from the heavenly side, the ones on this side were less combat oriented and less organized.
Morden watched as monkeys collided with each other while trying to escape, some of them freezing in place at the sight of an arrow.
’I better get moving.’
He ignored the Monkey leader’s lack of reaction and scanned around for his first opponent.
To his left, he finally noticed a newly arrived Heavenly Monkey (Golden-furred Monkey from the heavenly side) the Monkey also immediately noticed him too.
This beast in particular wasn’t armed, but from the ferocity on their face, they are extremely easy to identify.
Without hesitation, Morden charged straight at his opponent, who also did the same. They arrived in front of each other, and the beast sent a punch in Morden’s direction.
The punch moved at a fairly slow speed, almost as if there wasn’t any force behind it all. Morden watched it approach him, but he didn’t think too much of it; he almost completely dismissed it.
Thankfully he didn’t.
When the punch got close enough, Morden suddenly watched it accelerate and almost hit him.
"What the hell?"
"Don’t tell me he used boost."
But the more he thought about it, the more logical it actually became, using a normal attack or even a weak attack and then increasing the speed or strength just as it is about to land.
The attack will land with maximum momentum.
"Now this is training from the original owner,"
Despite the beauty of the attack, Morden still managed to block it and even counter.
[Speed +20(temp.)]
He swung his sword with everything he had plus boost; the attack was just too fast for the monkey to dodge. Morden cleaved off its head in one clean move.
[Common-grade Golden-furred Monkey killed: Gene shard +1]
Since the battle ended super fast, Morden had the time to actually check the string of text.
He immediately confirmed that he actually got Gene shards, so he just smiled and moved to the next target, another Common-grade monkey.
[Common-grade Golden-furred Monkey killed: Gene shard +1]
[Common-grade Golden-furred Monkey killed: Gene shard +1]
[Common-grade Golden-furred Monkey killed: Gene shard +1]
Just like that, Morden went all around, ending the lives of any Common-grade monkey he came across, just like that, the number of Gene shards kept climbing.
But preying on the ground weak long enough, and the big dogs would eventually notice.
The Big dogs were mostly Uncommon-grade Monkeys and some of them had tried multiple times to approach Morden, but they had all been stopped by the Abyssal Uncommon-grade, giving Morden a little free rein.
This addition to the battle was actually massive, as there were lesser Common-grades, there were fewer nuisances, so the actual battle could progress.
Ultimately, his spree ended as an Uncommon-grade Monkeys blocked his path to another target.
"It seems I have managed to find a big target."
"Alright then,"
"Let’s dance."
