Chapter 409: A Gift
As he removed the documents from the envelope, he pushed them across the table, towards Michael.
Slightly curious, Michael picked up one of the documents, realizing that it was a deal worth $80 million. It was quite a good deal, and it really suited Vanguard Corporation.
Of course, it was a long-term contract, where it needed Vanguard Corporation to be in charge of security in several events.
Michael set aside the documents containing the information on this contract, instead, he looked at the other document.
This document on the other hand seemed to be a share transfer agreement, where Chris was transferring 12% percent of Harrison Group shares, to Michael.
The Harrison group was the one that was in charge of the several subsidiary companies of the Harrison family. Basically, owning some shares within the group was much more valuable than the shares of the subsidiaries.
With the net worth of about $120 billion, 12% shares equated to around $14 billion in terms of value.
Michael raised his brows slightly as he gazed at Chris. It was quite a surprise to him that Chris was willing to go all this way just to ask for forgiveness from him.
But as he looked at the man, immediately, he began to understand why this seemed to be the case. Even though he was not 100% sure, at least, he believed that he could understand Chris’ intentions.
"So, are you trying to associate me with your Harrison Group? In this way, in case the group encounters a problem, I might have to act in order to save that 12% of the shares?" Michael asked bluntly.
The Harrison Group mainly dealt with entertainment. The entertainment industry was full of drama, and it was not that difficult to find a situation where an entertainment company collapsed overnight.
After all, for most entertainment companies, what they mainly dependent on was the reputation of the celebrities that they had signed. If one of the celebrities or most of the top celebrities lost their influence, the company would begin making losses.
If it was not well managed, it would not be much of a surprise for the company to suddenly collapse.
So, most of the times, the owners of such companies usually had so many connections. That way, they would be able to deal with different situations.
With Michael’s influence of being the owner of Vanguard corporation, and the newly rising sky Technologies, just the fact that he was a shareholder of Harrison Group, was enough to be able to raise the price of the shares by a good margin.
Clearly, while this guy was here to ask for forgiveness, he also had the intention of regaining what he had just given. He might have given out something way more valuable, but in the long run, there was a great possibility of him earning back everything that he had just offered to Michael.
Basically, this guy was investing, taking a risk, believing that Michael would lead to the growth of the group. Even if it was not a big growth, the one that he expected, he would still be able to leverage some of the connections that Michael had, so that the group could grow further.
Upon being directly exposed by Michael, Chris was not that much surprised. In fact, he was amazed as he nodded appreciatively.
At the same time, he thought, he had really made the right decision by coming over to ask for forgiveness. If they could bind Michael to the Harrison Group, the benefits that they would be able to get in the future would be tremendous.
Additionally, he believed that the decision to involve Michael into the group was right. After all, the type of background that could produce Michael was not simple.
By this time, he was much more convinced that Michael was not just related to the Santos family, but there was another force that was related to Michael.
Since they trusted Michael and gave him the authority over such a big company like Vanguard corporation, it was clear that he possessed the skills.
"You have sharp intuition, Mr. Santos. I had no any intention of hiding my actions. I believed that this amount for forgiveness, you would be able to tell something.
And I’m not going to hide anything about it. My intentions are just as you’ve said, to ask for forgiveness and at the same time, to make a gamble." Chris was obviously not shy to admit his intentions.
That was something that improved Michael’s impression of him. But regardless, Michael really had no any intention of involving himself with some other groups.
While some things could be easily sorted out, some situations could lead to more complications. Because of this, he preferred to be the only owner of a company, instead of involving several other people in the main decision-making.
But just as he was about to refuse, he suddenly remembered something. Why not give this opportunity to the Morgan family? This could be considered a small gift and later on, during the engagement, he could plan for something bigger.
Since he had Kate, then he would have to give some care to her family as well. That was especially for Kate’s mother, who had raised Kate alone.
"I won’t personally take on those. But, if you’re willing, you can give them to the Morgan family under my girlfriend’s name. I believe that since have information on me, you have the info on her." Michael stated.
Of course, even if Chris did not agree, Michael would just find another method of giving a little gift to the Morgan family.
From his understanding of the Morgan family, even though they really cared about the members of the family, the issues regarding the marriage was always in the hands of the older generation.
It was because of this that Kate had previously almost gotten engaged. If not for Michael getting involved, she really might have ended up getting married by David Kingsley.
Even someone like Raymond, he did not have a say in who he was going to marry. He already had a fiancee arranged for him, and unless he had someone else who was better than the one that they had arranged for him, he would have to marry her.
This was just how most of the big families worked. Almost everything that was done, it had to consider the family.
Chris was momentarily puzzled when he heard Michael’s words. But this did not last long as he quickly nodded in agreement, "No problem at all. Since it is the family of your girlfriend, it is no different from giving it to you."
Even though things had not gone as he had initially intended, still, he was tied to Michael. It was indirect, but at least, there was a link between him and Michael.
As for trying to insist that this gift was meant for Michael, he understood that something like that would only end up backfiring.
Another thing, he thought, since Michael cared so much about his girlfriend, in case the group faced a problem, as long as he could ask the representative from the Morgan family, there was a great possibility that Michael would take action.
Therefore, immediately, he decided, no matter who it was that was going to be in charge of the 12% shares that he was handing over, he had to maintain a good relationship with them.
It would be even better if they could become best friends. That way, it would be much easy for him to be able to make a request through him, to reach Michael’s girlfriend, then reach Michael himself.
Regardless, at this point, Chris was amazed by Michael. Clearly, he did not seem to care much about the shares that had been given to him. He was even willing to give them out to someone else.
Moreover, he was not even giving them directly to his girlfriend, instead, to the girlfriend’s family. This showed just how much Michael cared about Kate, and how big his background was.
"Okay, I will make a call, and someone will meet you to discuss about this share transfer agreement. I believe that you can reach Brenton city, right?" Michael nodded before asking.
"Not a problem. In fact, I can get there today, and get everything done." Chris immediately agreed.
He was much more willing to go, and was in much of a hurry as compared to Michael. After all, the earlier he associated himself with Michael, the better.
If things suddenly went wrong before the share transfer agreement was signed, who would even accept such a gift? Therefore, at least, before anything unexpected happened, he had to bind himself with Michael.
"Okay, the person to sign that contract should be Olivia Hall, my girlfriend’s mother. Make sure you remember that." Michael gave a reminder.
"Understood. Please, allow me to leave right now, make some changes on the contract, then immediately set of to Brenton city." Chris stated as he stood up.
"Go on." Michael nodded.
As he watched as Chris left, Michael did not think much about it. He already understood what this guy’s intentions were, but he did not really care that much.
But of course, if he attempted to do anything shady, he would suffer the consequences.
While thinking about this, he took out his phone, before he made a call. Just a few seconds later, the call connected and Raymond’s voice came from the other side, "Wow, I never thought that while spending time with my cousin, you would have the time to remember me and the other guys!"
