Chapter 162: Maw Trenches
Felix went first to Sky Marshal Kaelor and greeted him. Sky Marshal Kaelor simply nodded in response. Not that he was indifferent, but he simply didn’t know how to respond with words.
Felix didn’t mind and said, "We’ll be in your care again."
Sky Marshal nodded again with an assuring smile.
However, Felix didn’t feel assured yet. Something was wrong. He felt his intuition was telling him of a possible impending tribulation he must crossed.
He recalled of Flame Sovereign’s revelation and felt even more unsettled. He asked Guide for assurance but Guide herself was silent.
Felix felt his heart unsettled even by the time they sat inside. His intuition was also telling him not to miss the Obsidian Wing, either.
It was perplexing. Even knowing that he might face danger if he entered the plane with his family, his intuition told him he must proceed as fate had weaved for him.
In the end, Felix could only believe by Sky Marshal Kaelor’s ability while also feeling assured that there were twenty other more Lord Beast Tamer in the plane aside from Master Shen and Doctor Eleanor.
The rest were Commander Beast Tamer—only his parents and Mia were at the Awakener Rank.
The Obsidian Wing finally set off, and Felix continued to feel unsettle. He couldn’t even enjoy the scenery outside of the Clark City.
Krisha sensed how agitated Felix was. His fidgeting fingers and his eyes darting everywhere, with beads of sweat on his forehead conveyed his restlessness.
Krisha frowned.
She sensibly leaned closer to him and whispered on his ear. "Why are you so anxious?"
Felix was not startled. He was aware of her action.
However, he didn’t reply, causing Krisha to be frustrated.
She was worried about Felix, and the latter wasn’t willing to share his worries with her.
She was a bit annoyed.
She stared at Felix and sighed. She didn’t know how to ease his anxiousness.
In the end, she grabbed his hands and caressed them.
Sarah and Noah began to notice their interaction and couldn’t help but observe their son.
They wanted to ask him what was wrong, but Krisha was the first to whisper on his ear.
"Rest assured. All will be well."
Felix shook his head. He gritted his teeth as he stared at the massive TV.
He said, "I don’t think it will be, starting now."
Everyone simultaneously glanced at the massive TV and realized they were heading to a sudden appearance of a space rift...
...
Sky Marshal Kaelor was taken aback. He had not expected the arrival of the space rift at all.
He held his breath.
The distance, the arrival, the calculation—the appearance of the space rift seemed to be deliberately targeting them.
The last appearance of the space rift occurred was the time when Krisha’s mother entered. Now, another space rift emerged.
It seemed to be sentient enough to intentionally target them.
He couldn’t maneuver the Obsidian Wing. It was already fated to enter the space rift.
Immediately, he grabbed the hand microphone and spoke, "Don’t panic. Save your energy. We’ll be entering the space rift."
His tone was difficult to gauge. His words were limited, not providing comfort and assurance at all.
However, the passengers were already aware that panicking would not benefit them. They could only trust the Sky Marshal.
There was one truth though that caused them to be despaired.
Not a single individual, whether a King Beast Tamer in the past, had returned after entering the space rift...
...
Once a space rift had opened and another being entered, it would close after some time.
However, when the Obsidian Wing entered, the space rift instantly closed, as though it only invited the Obsidian Wing.
The Obsidian Wing entered into another world. Through the massive TV, they held their breath and observed the world with palpitating heart.
They instantly arrived to the same conclusion that the world they were about to live was bleak and terrifying.
It was a ruined world. The sky glowed dark crimson, covered by a massive vortex cloud, where they just came from.
The land was consisted of deserts, forests, rivers, mountains, and pits... but far from what they had seen in their homeland that were filled with vitality.
The deserts were black ash, the forests were bones, the rivers were dark sludge, the mountains were jagged obsidians, and the pits were filled with massive corpses.
The world was also so vast that the entirety of the human settlement couldn’t compare.
Sky Marshal Kaelor was quick-witted. When he noticed, they were heading to a citadel, his hair stood on ends and hastily reverted the direction of the Obsidian Wing.
The citadel was definitely where the owner of the world was residing. It might be powerful enough to contend against a Monarch Beast Tamer.
He was only a Lord Beast Tamer at peak rank, it was impossible to fight against it. Furthermore, the world was vaster than the whole humanity settlement. The population might be comparable to the human population, and he didn’t want to take a risk.
The Obsidian Wing flew far into the gigantic canyon instead. The passengers had so many questions, but they had fully trusted Sky Marshal capability.
Some wanted to voice out their opinions, speculating that the citadel might be the human’s fortress for those who entered the space rift in the past, but they immediately discarded the idea once massive TV showed a closer observation of the inhabitants in the gigantic canyon.
They were aghast. It was definitely impossible for a human to survive and possibly created a fortress in the center.
"What are those?" Someone mumbled, looking appalled.
He was referring about the inhabitants in the gigantic canyon.
There was a creature resembling between a panther, a saber-toothed tiger, and a draconic beast. Their bodies were covered in a mixture of dark volcanic scales, dense ash-gray fur, and black armored plates. The scales were concentrated along the spine, shoulders, and tail, forming natural armor.
There was an eerie floating jellyfish. Inside their semi-transparent flesh floated unknown Energy, fragments, and glowing organs.
Their bodies constantly distorted visual perception in the massive TV.
There were also the most conspicuous creatures—a giant. They scattered around the gigantic canyon.
Their bodies resembled a massive humanoid giant assembled from bones, corrupted repulsive flesh, and abyssal biomass. An entire forest could actually grow behind their back due to their size.
The passengers held their breath.
They failed to spot other more creatures, as the giants took most of the view in the massive TV once they appeared.
Not only most of them were terrestrial creatures, but there were also aerial creatures heading towards them.
They were enormous aerial demon beasts with wingspans ranging from twenty to forty meters. Their bodies appeared partially skeletal, as though portions of their flesh had decayed away while remaining alive.
There were at least three of them and they were comparable to a Lord Beast Tamer already.
Most of them had exposed rib cages, bone-plated necks, black leathery skin, and featherless wings.
Their heads resembled giant skulls with hooked beaks formed from abyssal bone.
Their most distinctive features were their eyes. Their eyesockets contained floating pale flames rather than physical eyes.
These flames were staring straight at them.
They flew into panic and were about to shout Sky Marshal Kaelor’s name, when they finally saw a colossal silver-black Roc in the massive TV.
The Roc instantly created a massive thunderstorm region around the plane.
However, it wasn’t enough. The aerial demon beasts, reminding them of a vulture... or a Carrion Vultures as it might perfectly be described, collided with the thunderstorm barrier.
They used their featherless wings to constantly attack the thunderstorm barrier, and the latter showed a sign of waning.
The Roc ascended high into the sky and summon a cloud of storm. When it reached a certain height, it glared at the three Carrion Vultures and descended at them like a lightning meteor.
The three Carrion Vultures finally noticed his presence and glanced at him.
They simultaneously opened their beak and summoned a ball of dense dark energy as it appeared.
The three bolt of dense dark energy fused with each other as it headed towards the descending Roc.
The passengers held their breath. They were worried at the Roc.
Just as before the Roc collided with the dark beam, its beak suddenly generated a sharp compressed lightning. From afar, it appeared like a sharp lightning arrow.
The Roc pierced through the dark beam. Its sharp lightning beak collided with the Carrion Vultures, passing through its body like a tofu.
It spread its wings as well before the impact, and its wings generated a compressed lightning streams that sliced through the other Carrion Vultures.
In one descent, the Roc killed the three Carrion Vultures.
The passengers rejoiced.
But Sky Marshal Kaelor hastily ordered the Roc to return and stored it on his beast space.
He was afraid that its Energy would attract other aerial beasts.
They then continued to observe the gigantic canyon from above.
It resembled a gigantic claw marks carved into the surface.
Such thought terrified them.
The trench network was definitely not naturally formed.
Furthermore, at the center of the gigantic canyon was a lower trench.
From afar, it resembled like a maw...
"Maw Trenches..."
Someone in the passenger mumbled.
The passengers’ hair stood on ends. A chill ran down their spine.
Some already wanted to faint, knowing that staying alive would be impossible henceforth.
As for Felix himself, he steeled himself. Not only he needed to survive, he must protect his family at all cost...
