Chapter 280: My Husband Is Very Good to Me
Caleb Summers looked utterly infatuated.
Butler Walters, standing to the side, cleared his throat. "Master Summers, our master’s preferences are... conventional."
"..." Caleb Summers shot him a glare. "Like I need you to tell me! Is a father’s love for his son not love?"
"What did you just say?" Nathan Fawcett looked at the flippant Caleb Summers.
Back when Caleb Summers used to hang out with Ethan Linden, he had always been the type to run his mouth. They were bros, after all; they said whatever they wanted to each other.
But now, seeing the look in Nathan Fawcett’s eyes, he was scared into quickly correcting himself. "I got it backward! You’re my daddy! You’re my daddy!"
That afternoon, Anne Sutton had just gotten home. Nathan Fawcett wasn’t back yet, but she saw Lana Langley sitting on the sofa in the Linden Family’s home.
Anne Sutton asked, "What are you doing here?"
When Lana Langley saw Anne Sutton, she said, "Where’s Ethan? I’m here to see him."
"He’s at work. He’s not back yet." Anne Sutton sat down. "Do you need him for something?"
Anne Sutton still remembered what Ryan Linden had said in front of Nathan Fawcett last night!
’So why is Lana Langley acting like the victim now?’
’The wicked always file the complaint first, I guess!’
Lana Langley said, "I just think he’s gone too far!"
"Too far?" Anne Sutton retorted. "He didn’t even hold what your husband did last night against him, and you’re calling that too far?"
"Yes!" Lana Langley said. "He didn’t make a fuss in front of our relatives, but today he had my husband beaten up at the company! You don’t think that’s going too far?"
’Nathan Fawcett beat up Ryan Linden?’
’He wouldn’t go that far, would he?’
But then again, remembering his temper, Anne Sutton thought it wasn’t entirely impossible for him to do something like that.
Anne Sutton said, "Oh, in that case, your husband deserved it!"
"What did you say?" Lana Langley stared at Anne Sutton in disbelief. "Ethan hit someone, and you’re saying he deserved it! It’s true what they say—birds of a feather flock together! No wonder Ethan took a liking to you."
"..." Anne Sutton looked at her aggressive posture and said, "Go find the person who did the hitting. What’s the point of yelling here? Shouting at me is useless!"
Lana Langley said huffily, "I’m going to wait right here until Ethan gets back!"
Anne Sutton sat to the side, not trying to kick her out.
Even though she was living in the Linden Family’s home, she really had no right to kick a member of the Linden Family out.
She picked up her phone and sent a message to Nathan Fawcett. "Heard you had Ryan Linden beaten up? His wife is here, waiting for you at home! Maybe you should just stay away for now."
If he really did beat someone up, it would be best for him to lie low for a bit.
It would save him from getting into an argument with Lana Langley!
Ryan Linden was smart. After taking a hit, he sent his wife to cause a scene.
No matter how out of line Nathan Fawcett could be, he wouldn’t stoop to hitting a woman!
It didn’t take long for Nathan Fawcett to reply to Anne Sutton’s message. "Just take care of yourself. Don’t let them take advantage of you."
"..." Looking at his reply, a smile tugged at the corners of Anne Sutton’s lips.
Lana Langley, sitting nearby, stared at Anne Sutton. "What are you smiling about?"
Lana was furious, yet here was Anne Sutton, casually looking at her phone and smiling. It really pissed Lana Langley off.
Anne Sutton looked at Lana Langley and said, "It’s nothing. Just messaging a friend."
"You didn’t just tell Ethan not to come back, did you? He can stay away today, but he can’t stay away tomorrow, too. I’ll wait here as long as it takes."
Anne Sutton looked at the woman, feeling completely exasperated.
Just then, Ian came downstairs. Seeing Anne Sutton, he said, "Mom, you’re back!"
Anne Sutton looked at her son. "Is your lesson over?"
Ian replied, "My tutor wasn’t feeling well today and went home early."
He glanced at Lana Langley and asked, "Is Donna not here today?"
Lana Langley snorted. "Our Donna is in class! She doesn’t just play around all day."
Anne Sutton looked at Lana Langley’s snide expression and said, "Ian is only three years old. He should be playing."
"Is that so?" Lana Langley said. "Well, when our Donna was three, she could already recite the multiplication table!"
She looked very proud as she said this.
Anne Sutton’s lip twitched. "Wow, that’s really something."
Lana Langley said, "Our Ryan was very smart when he was little, too."
"Then what happened to him?" Even though Anne Sutton hadn’t been with the Linden Family long, she knew Ryan Linden wasn’t very reliable.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have angered his father to death’s door.
And he was always causing trouble at the company!
Lana Langley said, "It’s actually Ethan’s fault! Back when Ethan fell into the water, it was our Ryan who pulled him out! He choked on water trying to save him, and his mind hasn’t been as sharp since! Ryan saved his life, and this is how your Ethan treats him! He’s completely ungrateful."
She spoke with righteous indignation.
Anne Sutton watched Lana Langley. As she spoke, a bruise on her arm became visible.
Anne Sutton looked at her and asked, "What happened to your arm?"
Hearing this, Lana Langley froze for a moment, then subconsciously pulled down her sleeve to cover the injury on her wrist.
Anne Sutton asked, "Did someone hit you?"
"Who says?! You’re the one who got hit!"
Lana Langley retorted, her face flushing.
Anne Sutton said, "You’re clearly injured, but you deny it and try to hide it. Don’t tell me Ryan Linden was the one who hit you."
"..." Lana Langley pointed at Anne Sutton. "Sutton, I’m warning you, don’t just say whatever you want! My husband is very good to me!"
Though as she reached the end of her sentence, she seemed to hesitate.
Anne Sutton looked at the woman. "I was just asking. Why are you acting so guilty? The more you act like this, the more I think I guessed right! If he really does hit you, isn’t it a bit pathetic for you to be defending him like this?"
"That’s not what happened! Stop talking nonsense."
Lana Langley forcefully denied it.
Just then, Nathan Fawcett walked in from outside, followed by the butler.
He was wearing a black overcoat today.
He walked in, saw Lana Langley, and said, "Sister-in-law."
Lana Langley shot to her feet. "You had Ryan Linden beaten up at the company? He’s your brother, for crying out loud! How could you do that to him? Ethan, you have no conscience! If it weren’t for him saving you, his brain wouldn’t be so... You really don’t have a shred of decency! No wonder nobody likes you anymore!"
Nathan Fawcett looked at the furious Lana Langley and asked, "He told you I had him beaten up?"
"If it wasn’t you, who else could it be?" Lana Langley challenged. "Besides you, who would dare to lay a hand on him?"
He’s a member of the Linden Family, after all!
Outsiders would have to show some restraint.
Butler Walters, standing to the side, spoke up. "It was Master Summers. We don’t know what conflict they had today, but just before we came back, our master had just finished disciplining Master Summers."
Lana Langley said, "Ca... Caleb Summers?"
Butler Walters nodded.
Lana Langley said, "Impossible! Why would Caleb Summers do that?"
"Master Summers has always been willful; we can’t fathom his motives either. But for our master to take the blame for it would be far too unfair."
Caleb Summers’s personality was the type that everyone and their dog hated!
It was only right that he take the blame for what he did. Besides, there was nothing Lana Langley could do about Caleb Summers.
