Chapter 35: Bonus - : Stark Expo (III)
I saw your enthusiasm for the dc fic idea. Some are saying to mash it with this one
But I don’t plan on doing any Mashups with this fic. I will strictly stay in marvel.
I mean if I try and add another world to this it’ll just become chaotic and a lot more long winded that ut needs to be.
Plus, I don’t think I can handle both dc and marvel together for one fic.
I won’t be writing that one anytime soon so it won’t affect the release of this one. Dw.
Also, readers troublesome and Inklike, I hope the problems you had with John not expecting the attack on Stark Expo on the date date are clear after you have read Chapter 34.
What else was there?
Yes, the next bonus Chapter will be at 3200 stones.
Get cracking.
...
Well, truthfully, everything was an excuse.
There was only one reason John decided to punch the rubble away.
He just wanted to help Gwen because she wouldn’t do it herself. John didn’t care if he was caught as a superhuman; it was not something he could hide in this world anyway. The Kraven case was just a clear indication of that, and someone was already hot on his trail regarding that.
Could he have waited for a more ideal situation? Probably. But how could one describe an ideal situation?
At the very least, he was exposed at his own terms.
As fun as it was to train inside the controlled room, a fighter’s true level only emerged in the middle of chaos. John exhaled and relaxed his body. It felt like his skin was on fire, but it didn’t feel uncomfortable. This was just the heat of the battle.
A heat that would forge him anew.
’Now you are cooking.’ Yujiro sounded most pleased when John straightened up.
"Let’s see how I measure up against these Tin cans." John clasped his hands behind his back, pushing them upwards till they went over his shoulders.
A little distance from him, a group of Drones was trying to round up the civilians, especially those that had anything Iron Man related.
One of them had raised its gun towards a child in an Iron Man helmet. But before a single bullet could leave, John picked up an iron pole longer than him. He rushed forward like a bullet. The haki-coated pole slipped into the exposed area around the neck. And the Drone’s head came off with one swift motion.
John didn’t look at the civilians backing away and studied the head he had ripped off. Under the spray of machine oil and cooling liquid, he managed to understand the camera on the drone head. But he needed to understand the field of view and blind spots.
He went after the second drone. Ripping away its head from behind with a thrust. Then a third one. Then the fourth. By the fifth one, the drones that had focused all their firepower on Tony noticed his presence.
But it was already too late by then. John had confirmed their blind spots. The area their cameras looked at. Their patterns to threats. The time it took for them to communicate with each other. And even their response to sudden sound.
Another thing that he had confirmed was the positions of the gaps in the armours and joints from the destroyed drones he found along the way.
’There it is.’ John walked into one of the booths he had visited with Gwen just before they had the burgers, throwing away the mangled iron pole.
He didn’t remember the technical jargon they threw at him, but there was one thing that stuck with him. Bringing him here again.
Inside the wrecked tent with burning machinery and short-circuited devices, John broke the glass container at the centre and took out the tungsten stick that was a little longer than a baseball bat.
"This’ll do for now." He swung it a few times, getting a feel for the weight distribution and momentum.
It weighed about 20 kilos, but it felt just right in his hand. John stepped out of the tent as a small force of the Drones had started to close in.
There were simple army drones, with their M242 Bushmasters and grenade launchers. They had no coordination with one another and were just moving in.
Normally, it would’ve been better to just get out of here. But since John was caught on camera, he just wanted to go all out and find his limits. One actual fight would help him a lot compared to 100 training sessions.
So, when the perfect opportunity was in front of him, why would he run?
’Don’t make excuses, kid, you just want to go all out for once, don’t you?’ Yujiro was becoming too chatty.
"Shut up old man, let me cook." Haki gathered in his eyes, the tungsten stick turning black in his hand.
There were ten drones in front of him. A red line stretched from the machine gun on the Drone’s shoulder to where he was a moment ago. The rapid barrage of lead vaporized the tent and everything in it to bits. The rain of bullets tried to follow him while splintering the ground below.
But John had already reached the drone. The tungsten stick broke through the exposed leg joint. When the drone fell to the ground swung the stick like a baseball bat, shooting the broken head into the oncoming grenade.
’Balls.’ But he knew the head would miss the grenade by a hairsbreadth, and ran away.
Using the explosion as a cover, he circled the perimeter and headed for the drone that was to the furthest right. He threw the broken head from a statue at the fountain in the middle of the drones.
The machine guns turned for a moment at the sudden arrival and shot at the marble head. John came in from behind. The stick thrust straight through a drone’s head.
By the time the drones moved their turrets, he had already slipped in front of another Drone. Using it as a shield while breaking its machine gun with a single swing.
When faced with two machine guns, he threw the tungsten rod at the farthest one. Destroying its machine gun. And slipping close to the one near him. Ripping its head off with hands reinforced with Haki.
John didn’t once try to fend off the machine guns and grenades. He dodged their line of fire by knowing it in advance, throwing rubble to intercept the grenade’s line of fire. And he kept using other drones as shields, reducing the combat to one-on-one or one to two, making the drones shield him from the bullets while he dismantled them.
Another advantage to him was that these drones were not made to fight humans with cold weapons. Their armour was made to handle Tony Stark, who used missiles and blasts. These machines were designed to withstand those shocks. But that left them with obvious exposed areas that a close-range fighter could exploit, if they could get close enough.
And John’s entire fighting profile was built to get in his opponent’s face. Unlike humans, machines didn’t know feints; their actions were straightforward. This made them easier to handle with Observation Haki running at full power. Almost too simple even.
In about 5 minutes, John had taken care of about 12 drones. Painting the ground in red oil and broken hunks of sparking metal. But he could only sigh as the flying ones appeared next. These stayed out of his range, and he had no way to reach them either, at least for now.
However, he had bought enough time. A series of webs shot out just as the air force drones were aiming their missiles at them. The webs covered the launching device, making them malfunction and explode.
As several of the drones crashed into the ground, a blur of white and black landed in front of him after a graceful flip. Spiderwoman had arrived flashily.
"You are good." Her voice was low, but had the same sharpness.
"And you are... distracting." John’s eyes went to her prominently moving chest and the hips that were hugged tight by the suit.
It wasn’t that he wanted to look; his senses were just at their peak at this moment. He wouldn’t be able to ignore it even if he wanted to.
"That was rude..." Spiderwoman covered herself, but it made little difference. But the carefree vibe dropped when some more drones arrived.
"Keep them distracted, I’ll figure something out." John patted his shoulder with the tungsten stick, looking at the system panel.
"Ordering me the moment we met, huh. One of those alpha types, are you?" She chuckled, crouching low on the ground.
[Gwen Stacy is glad that you are uninjured. +100 EP]
John smiled as two strings of webs grabbed onto the pole as she launched herself towards the flying drones.
