My Apocalypse System Awakened Five Years Early

Chapter 91: Lack Of Confidence

Klaus replayed the system’s words in his mind for a few moments while Trina waited for his answer.

At the end, he couldn’t just force himself to accept the change, so he rose from his chair, his hand naturally slipped out of Trina’s grip, and he said with a smile, "I have to go."

She looked at him with a somber expression before she washed it away and smiled brightly. "Okay."

He quickly turned around and walked out of the training room.

Once the door closed behind him, Trina’s shoulders slumped, and she felt an ache in her chest. It was something she hadn’t felt before, but it was heavy and painful, as though something sharp had been lodged there.

She lowered her head and stared at the tiled floor as she asked herself, "Why was I so confident?"

Perhaps she had failed to truly understand Klaus. But even Sarin, who knew everything about him, couldn’t understand him completely, so it wasn’t something she could fix.

At the moment, Klaus was at the delicate line of questioning his values, worth, goals, dreams, and much more. All of which began from a single anxious thought: ’Can I really rule the world?’

Even Klaus himself didn’t know how deeply rooted that anxiety had become.

To put it in perspective, Klaus, who had once viewed the world from his own understanding of it, was now borrowing others to view himself.

He was using the rulers of the past and their ends and falls to decide his own capability, even though they were completely different from him.

He was a superhuman with a vast mind that could contain knowledge beyond what those rulers ever did, and he had such great minds under him.

But in the end, nothing would happen until he himself realised what he was actually looking for.

The system’s words had put a hole in what he had considered to be the perfect method to move forward, but he couldn’t just give it up, so for now he needed some fresh air and the company of a friend.

Fortunately, he knew just the right place.

A few minutes later, he halted his bike in the parking lot of Maker Finance and walked inside with a smile.

The building had already been furnished, and with Trenton’s help, all the needed technical equipment had already been set up.

On top of that, he didn’t even have to pay for them because Trenton had taken it upon himself to handle the cost.

Pots full of flowers or grass had been placed at various parts to give the place life, and he walked directly to the elevator.

The elevator door opened with a chime, and he stepped in and clicked on the button leading to the highest floor, which was the third for now.

A few moments later, it chimed and opened, and Klaus stepped out; his face no longer had a smile.

Without any knock, he walked into Martin’s office, and once there, he found Martin sitting beside another familiar face.

"Ms. Murrow..." Klaus mumbled.

Sophia and Martin looked at him with surprised expressions, and the former said, "Mr. Maker, it’s good to see you."

He nodded and looked at Martin with narrowed eyes. ’There’s no way, right?’

Martin furrowed his brows and looked around in confusion before asking Klaus, "Did you say something?"

"No?" Klaus said and turned to Sophia. "Ms. Murrow, can you please give me some time alone with Martin?"

Sophia’s hands moved to her ballooned abdomen, and she rose from the sofa. "Of course."

"Thanks," he said.

She looked at Martin and waved at him. "See you at home, Uncle."

"Bye," Martin smiled.

Klaus watched the two of them suspiciously but said nothing because he didn’t want to make any assumptions about their relationship.

Once Sophia left, Martin turned to Klaus with a frown and asked, "What’s the problem?"

"Problem? When did I even say anything about there being any?" Klaus said as he slouched on the sofa beside Martin.

Martin glanced toward him. "You don’t need to say it. I can guess from the way you are acting."

"I guess so," Klaus chuckled darkly and lowered his head.

"I am just not sure whether what I am doing is the right thing or not," he mumbled somberly.

Martin’s gaze became worried, and he nodded slightly. "I see..."

"That’s all? You have nothing else to say? No advice, no nothing?" Klaus furrowed his brows.

Martin chuckled and fixed his gold-trimmed glasses before he asked, "Why are you asking me?"

"Huh?" Klaus fell confused.

"Did you ask me when you started all of this? Did you ask me when you recruited people for your empire... or the New World?" Martin stated.

"No, right? Then why are you asking me now? What has changed?"

"I... I don’t feel confident about what I am doing anymore."

"And why is that?" Martin pressed.

Klaus thought about it, but he truly had no answer in his mind.

"I don’t know."

"That’s your clue." Martin placed a hand on his shoulder. "You have to find out why you aren’t confident anymore and work on that."

Klaus looked at him and blinked a few times slowly before he frowned and asked, "But how?"

Martin patted his shoulder and rose from the sofa.

"That is for you to find out," he said while fixing his suit.

"Think back to what caused all of this. If it was a place, go there. Or if it was a person, go meet them. Sometimes we are unable to see part of ourselves which others can. Maybe that person saw it and made you realise that."

Klaus fell silent for a while.

Seeing that, Martin smiled and walked out of his office, leaving Klaus alone with silence.

He thought about Martin’s words, and after about five minutes of silence and repeated questions to himself, a name appeared in his mind.

It was the name of the only person he had failed to make his subordinate.

Victor Frank.
