Chapter 935

Anton thought that, at the very least, the time he would spend studying to become a viable traveler would be shorter than average since he didn’t need to learn offensive and defensive spells. He had those in spades, thanks to the eight characters in the Diablo II portion of his Diablo System.

He wasn’t even counting the spells he could use from his wizard character in the Diablo Immortal portion of his Diablo System.

Lemuel told him that the first few lessons would cover the general knowledge that a traveler needed to learn. It was similar to what their initial guide, Oliver, had taught Anton and his batchmates, but the lessons would be much more detailed.

The general lessons would begin the day after tomorrow, while that day and the following day would be reserved for Anton to acclimatize himself to living in his new teacher’s tower.

The general lessons would last two hours a day for three days. After that, they would begin tackling the first spell Anton needed to learn: Spatial Magic Meditation. That lesson would continue until Anton had learned everything he needed to master it on his own.

Lemuel said they would focus exclusively on Spatial Magic Meditation at first. Once Anton’s Initiate Traveler teacher determined that he had learned enough to master it by himself, they would begin studying the four spells Anton needed to master to become an Initiate Traveler: Blink, Gate, Anchor, and Spatial Coordinate Determination.

After their discussion, Lemuel brought Anton to the room assigned to him. It was located on the second floor of Vernatu’s Tower, where the novices lived.

Lemuel told him that there were currently around twenty-three novices, and that number would continue to grow since it was still the year when Traveler’s Haven was accepting new members.

He informed Anton that the number of novices would probably reach as high as a hundred before the year ended.

He also told Anton that most novices would advance to Initiate after about a year or two of study. How long a new member remained at each rank ultimately depended on the individual.

Lemuel jokingly said that the record for the longest time someone had remained a novice was four years.

“What happened to him?” Anton asked.

“He’s an Adept Traveler now and is currently in another dimension,” Lemuel unexpectedly replied.

Anton realized that the duration of each phase in the ranking system didn’t really matter. That made him feel a little better.

He was thankful that, unlike the grim fantasy novel he had read about a dark wizard organization, Traveler’s Haven seemed tolerant of what some might consider failures.

Since Anton was curious about that, he asked Lemuel about the dark magic organizations in Izmorta and whether any of them really had the extreme reputations he had read about.

Even though Traveler’s Haven was considered a neutral organization, it leaned more toward good or light—or whatever term one wanted to use to describe an organization as orderly.

In truth, most dark organizations considered Traveler’s Haven a good organization, while those considered good organizations were ambivalent toward Traveler’s Haven.

Learning more about Traveler’s Haven made Anton like it even more. His new organization wasn’t one of the dark ones that would force him to constantly look over his shoulder whenever he was out and about, nor was it a pretentious, fanatical organization obsessed with doing good, which was something he had disliked when reading about such organizations in novels.

The room assigned to him could be locked and unlocked using his mana signature, which was located beside the door. The setup had a high-tech vibe, but everything was powered by magic.

Once they entered Anton’s room, Lemuel reminded him that, as a novice traveler, he wasn’t allowed to leave the organization. He also warned him not to use his portal scroll.

Anton was surprised by that. It meant that, more than likely, a huge number of travelers in Vernatu’s Tower were already aware of his ability to travel using his Town Portal Scrolls.

“You don’t really need to leave the organization because, as you can see, Traveler’s Haven is as huge as a city. Everything you need can be found here,” Lemuel said.

Anton thanked his tutor. Lemuel then left him alone but reminded him that their next lesson would be held in Lesson Room Twenty-Four on the fourth floor.

That meant it would be best for Anton to familiarize himself with the different locations in Vernatu’s Tower. After inspecting his new room, that was exactly what he did.

He left his room and began exploring the tower.

He started on the first floor. Most of the business establishments and recreational venues were located there, including the café where he and Lemuel had talked.

There were also restaurants, theaters, a swimming pool, a practice arena, and all sorts of other facilities spread throughout the first and second floors of the tower.

Anton was surprised to discover that even though food and drinks were free, some restaurants served specialized dishes and beverages that cost a few mana stones. Most of the other recreational facilities also required mana stones, and Anton was glad that he had plenty of them.

He did notice that none of the establishments in the tower accepted gold coins.

Lemuel had informed him that if he needed spending money, he could visit the mission hall on the first floor, which was exclusively available to the travelers living in Vernatu’s Tower.

Lemuel also told him that not all the travelers living in the tower were Vernatu’s students.

Some were students of Vernatu’s students. That meant that of all the new members who joined Vernatu’s Tower, only around ten would be considered direct students, and Anton was lucky enough to be one of them.

Basically, once a traveler reached the Adept rank, they would need to accept a student from the list of new members. If an Adept couldn’t find a student they liked, a new member would be assigned to them.

That system wasn’t really an issue because, in truth, very few members were accepted whenever Traveler’s Haven held its new-member acceptance period.

Lemuel also warned Anton not to be surprised if he encountered travelers who belonged to species he wasn’t familiar with because some members came from other dimensions.

In truth, Anton couldn’t wait to meet one of them and hear about their home dimension.

Thankfully, Anton found a store on the first floor that sold a map of the first few floors of the tower. He kept the map open as he explored the first floor.

Because Vernatu’s Tower was so enormous, he didn’t finish exploring the first floor until very late at night. He then returned to his assigned room to rest.

When he used the elevator to reach the second floor, he was joined by a few people who were also heading toward their rooms.

Since Anton was a newcomer and thought it would be beneficial to be friendly, he kept smiling at everyone he met. Most of them looked at him as if they thought he was strange, which only amused him.

On his way to his room, he noticed a huge room that looked like a gathering hall, with several people inside. He listened carefully and learned that it was a general social hall for the people living on the second floor.

Curious, he entered.

He joined a group of people who were talking among themselves and introduced himself as a newly arrived member. Thankfully, almost everyone welcomed him without hesitation and allowed him to join their discussion.

The conversation centered on the spells they needed to learn to climb the ranks.
