Chapter 934
Chapter 934
Vernatu told him that he could understand why such a show would inspire children to become travelers. Having a grand adventure in space, just like the show Anton had shown his new teacher, would truly appeal to a lot of young minds.
“I believe that the target audience of that show understood perfectly well that it was something that couldn’t happen to them simply because there was no possibility for such a thing in their world. But with me, it’s different. I knew for a fact that such travel was possible because of our magic,” Anton told Master Vernatu.
What excited Anton even more was when his new teacher admitted that he had traveled to a dimension where some worlds had achieved such technological progress and had begun traveling beyond their planets using spacecraft.
After making such an admission and seeing how excited Anton became, Master Vernatu told him that the organization needed people with an adventurous spirit to reach places that no one from their world had ever been before and gather resources that could greatly advance their mastery of magic.
One advantage Anton had was that his so-called bloodline magic already possessed a spell that allowed him to teleport, since teleportation was basically a foundational skill that all travelers needed to master.
Anton also had access to a powerful item called a portal scroll, which was likewise something associated with travelers.
In truth, Anton believed that his new teacher looked down on his Town Portal Scroll because of its limitations. The fact that one of the destinations had to be anchored semi-permanently to a specific location meant that his portal scroll was not particularly useful compared to the spells available to powerful travelers from Traveler’s Haven.
Finally, after several hours of talking with his new teacher, Master Vernatu gave him five books that he needed to master. Once he had mastered them and completed a mission that would essentially serve as a test, Master Vernatu would increase his rank to Initiate and provide him with more spells.
The spells were all related to spatial magic. The first book he was given, which his master considered the foundation of becoming a traveler, was Spatial Magic Meditation.
It was a meditation technique designed to open a wizard’s mind and prepare it to withstand the rigors of spatial magic.
Master Vernatu explained that spatial magic was special, but extremely difficult to master. Once Anton began practicing the spatial meditation, an array would gradually form within his mind, allowing him to wield spatial magic much more easily. As he made significant progress with that spatial array, he would eventually be able to wield increasingly powerful spatial magic, to the point where he could open a gate that would allow him to travel to different dimensions.
The other four spell books contained spells such as Blink, Anchor, Gate, and Spatial Coordinate Determination.
Blink was basically similar to his Sorceress Teleport spell. Anchor was a spell that stabilized the space where he intended to create a gate, ensuring that its spatial coordinates remained stable. Gate was almost identical to his Portal Scroll, while Spatial Coordinate Determination was a spell that allowed him to determine the spatial coordinates of the place where he was currently standing.
The difference between the Gate spell and his Town Portal Scroll was that, unlike the Town Portal Scroll, he didn't need to anchor the Gate spell to a specific waypoint. He could freely use it as long as he knew the spatial coordinates of where he was and his destination.
Regarding Spatial Coordinate Determination, Anton knew that it was an extremely important spell, but he suspected that it was probably only the novice version of its type. It was limited to determining the coordinates of the location where he was currently standing.
According to Vernatu, the subsequent lessons Anton would receive would essentially cover the scientific principles behind each of the spells he had been given.
Travelers needed to understand how spatial spells worked, and they would receive lessons explaining the principles behind those spells.
Anton asked whether they needed to pay for anything within the organization, causing Master Vernatu to laugh.
His new teacher told him that he wouldn't bother explaining such mundane matters because other people would teach him about those things.
As for other spells that Anton might need, the other members of the tower could also teach him those if he wanted to learn them.
After that, someone knocked on Master Vernatu’s door before entering. Anton knew that the newcomer had been summoned by his new teacher.
“This is Initiate Lemuel. He’s one of my students and your senior. He’ll guide you through the things you need to know,” Master Vernatu said.
The wizard then turned his attention to something else, which was clearly a dismissal.
Anton followed Lemuel and was surprised when the mage assigned to be his new guide led him to what clearly looked like a café.
A café inside Vernatu’s tower.
Anton shook his head at finding such a place inside what he had considered to be the private residence of a Master Traveler.
The café had several staff members preparing orders for customers. It was about half full, and for one brief moment, Anton felt as though he had been transported to a busy city back on Earth.
There was even soft music playing throughout the café, giving the place a relaxing atmosphere.
Once Anton and Lemuel were seated, their conversation began.
Lemuel explained that whenever one of Master Vernatu’s students became an Initiate and wasn't away on a mission, a novice student would be assigned to them. Once that student became an Apprentice, an Initiate student would be assigned to them, and so on.
Basically, Master Vernatu's system provided one-on-one teachers for each member of his tower.
Lemuel would be teaching Anton the four books Master Vernatu had given him, with each subject lasting for an hour. That meant that during the first month, Anton would receive four hours of instruction from Lemuel each day, five days a week.
The lessons could even be shorter if a student was a quick learner.
Anton asked Lemuel how the organization earned the funds necessary to cover its various expenses.
Lemuel told him that food was free inside the organization. Other necessities could be purchased using the personal funds of the members, and members typically already knew how to earn money using the spells provided by Traveler’s Haven.
For things that usually couldn't be purchased directly, such as spatial spells or spatial coordinates, credit debt would accumulate under the member’s name. The debt would be repaid once the member began earning resources through missions.
Lemuel explained that resources gathered from their own world typically had the lowest value. The value of resources increased if they came from other worlds or dimensions.
By the time a Novice reached the Initiate rank, they would be allowed to undertake local missions and begin earning credits to pay off their debt.
Once a member reached the Apprentice rank, they could begin accepting missions to other worlds. The frequency of such missions would increase once the member reached the Journeyman rank. Upon reaching the Adept rank, they would finally be allowed to undertake missions to other dimensions.
During the Novice phase, members were expected to master the four spells given to them by their teacher, along with other necessary spells that would allow them to survive in hostile environments, such as offensive and defensive spells.
Regarding offensive and defensive spells, it was the responsibility of each member to choose which spells they wanted to learn, although their choices would be limited by their magical or wizardry rank.
