Chapter 933

Over the next several days, Oliver continued teaching them what it meant to be a novice traveler. According to their archmage guide, it was important for them to learn these things because there was a chance they would remain novice travelers for quite some time.

Apparently, the teacher who took them in would only allow them to advance to Journeyman Traveler once they had learned enough skills related to traveling. Not only that, but they would also have to complete several traveling missions. Only then could they advance in rank.

Basically, the ranking system was Novice Traveler, followed by Initiate, Apprentice, Journeyman, Adept, Master, and finally Grandmaster.

At first, Anton thought he would only need to reach the Journeyman rank.

“What traveler rank do members usually have before they gain the skills necessary to travel to different worlds or dimensions?” Anton asked Oliver.

“My teacher told me that traveling to different places in this world using the skills provided by the organization begins at the Journeyman rank. Traveling to another world within this dimension is handled by Adepts, while traveling to a different dimension is the purview of Masters and above.”

Anton internally sighed. He knew there was a chance that it would take quite some time before he gained the skills necessary to travel to a different world or dimension.

Still, he hoped that because of the power his Diablo System had given him, he would be able to reach that level in a much shorter amount of time.

When the day finally came for the teachers to select their students, Anton wasn’t surprised when he was immediately chosen.

The wizard who chose him was a Semi-Divine Rank wizard and a Master Traveler named Vernatu.

In fact, all of his batchmates were chosen by teachers as well, which greatly surprised Oliver.

Anton was excited that the member of the organization who had chosen him was a powerful Semi-Divine Rank wizard, but what mattered even more was that Vernatu was a Master Traveler.

Oliver told them that only a handful of members had reached the Grandmaster Traveler rank, so those who had reached the Master rank were also extremely well respected.

Master Travelers could already travel to different dimensions.

Oliver gave Anton instructions on where he needed to go to meet his new teacher. Vernatu lived in his own tower, and as his student, Anton would have to stay there as well.

When Anton reached his new teacher’s residence, he was impressed by how enormous the tower was.

Of course, other towers were just as massive as Vernatu’s Tower, but from then on, this tower would be his new home.

A female wizard led Anton to Vernatu’s office on the topmost floor after he entered the tower.

Since the tower was several stories high, Anton was thankful that there was an elevator.

In truth, he was a little disappointed when he learned that Vernatu’s Tower used an elevator to move between floors. It would have been far more interesting if the tower used some kind of dimensional array to teleport its occupants to different locations within the building.

The female wizard leading him noticed Anton’s expression and asked what was bothering him.

Anton admitted that, since Traveler’s Haven was known for its powerful spatial spells, he had expected a tower belonging to a powerful Master Traveler to use such spells for transportation between floors.

The wizard explained that the tower did utilize such spells, but for general movement, especially for low-ranking novices, the elevator was usually the preferred method. At least, that was the case until they reached the middle section of the tower.

Once they reached that point, they would have to use a spatial gate to reach Master Vernatu’s offices.

The wizard guiding him also told Anton that Vernatu had accepted three students that year, and Anton was the second student the Semi-Divine wizard had taken.

A third student had yet to be accepted, and it would probably take a few more weeks before that student arrived.

The first student had been accepted a month ago.

“Does that mean we have to wait for the third student to arrive before Master Vernatu starts teaching us?” Anton asked.

“Of course not. Each new student is taught by the master individually,” the female wizard replied.

When they reached the spatial door they needed to use to reach Master Vernatu’s offices, the wizard finally left.

Anton would have to continue alone.

He stepped through the spatial door and finally reached the entrance to Vernatu’s offices.

As he stood in front of the door, it opened, revealing an old wizard seated behind a table and reading a thick book.

Anton waited for several minutes near the doorway before Vernatu finally closed his book and gestured for him to approach and sit in the chair across from him.

Once Anton was seated, Vernatu began asking him questions.

“Have you regained your wizardry rank?”

“I haven’t memorized any new spells, but I’m sure I’ve regained it,” Anton answered.

He thought that might technically be a lie. Anton was certain that he had never actually lost his wizardry rank.

He assumed that because his wizardry rank depended on the power provided by his Diablo System, the organization’s rebirth process had not affected his system in any way.

Master Vernatu handed him a crystal globe used to test wizardry rank.

The crystal showed that Anton had reached the Supreme Rank.

After that, they discussed the spells Anton could use through his bloodline magic, focusing mainly on spatial spells.

That discussion didn’t last long because Anton only had a couple of spells related to spatial magic: the Teleport spell and his Town Portal scrolls.

He demonstrated his Teleport spell for Master Vernatu several times and handed a couple of portal scrolls to his new teacher.

He also provided the notes he had taken while studying the spell structure of his portals.

Master Vernatu spent several minutes examining his notes on the spell structure of the portal. Afterward, his new teacher asked him about his experience studying spell structures.

Anton retrieved one of each magic item he had created based on his studies of the spell structures provided by what he still referred to as his family’s bloodline magic.

Since Master Vernatu seemed patient, Anton started from the very beginning.

He began with his Fire Bolt lantern.

First, he demonstrated the Fire Bolt spell, casting it several times for Vernatu to observe.

At first, Anton was worried that he might damage one of his new teacher’s possessions inside the room. However, Master Vernatu simply gestured for him to continue.

Anton shouldn’t have been surprised when he saw that his spell didn’t reach any of the items inside Master Vernatu’s office.

When Anton cast Fire Bolt and aimed it at the wall, the spell fizzled out before it could reach its target.

It was as if some kind of unseen force had gathered around the office and snuffed out his spell.

After demonstrating the spell, Anton began explaining his understanding of its structure. He then demonstrated how he had created his Fire Bolt lantern by etching the spell structure onto one of the few remaining sculptures in his inventory.

After that demonstration, his new teacher asked him to continue.

Anton proceeded to demonstrate every magic item he had created and explain the spells on which they were based.

The discussion lasted for several hours, but neither Anton nor Vernatu seemed to notice the passing of time.

Eventually, they began discussing Anton’s motivation for becoming a traveler.

Anton repeated what he had always said about the movies and television shows that had inspired him to become a multidimensional traveler.

Anton was surprised when Vernatu asked him to show one of the movies or television shows that had inspired him.

He selected the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Vernatu patiently watched the entire episode.

When the show ended, Anton opened up about his desire to travel through space someday aboard a spacecraft.

He believed that the only way he could experience such a journey was by reaching a dimension that had achieved that level of technological advancement.
