Chapter 647: It Really Doesn’t Hurt That Much Anymore

That night, Chloe Reed slept exceptionally soundly, untroubled by nightmares or sudden awakenings.

When she opened her eyes and saw Walker Grant, his face mostly covered in white gauze, she froze for a moment.

The hospital room curtains weren’t blackout, so a sliver of daylight seeped through.

The room was dimly lit, but he lay right beside her. His features were deep and defined, his jawline exceptionally sharp.

The pained, haggard look was gone from his face. That night... his eyes hadn’t hurt.

Chloe couldn’t help but reach out to touch his face, but she stopped just before her fingers made contact.

Her fingers curled.

’What am I doing?’

Panicking for a moment, she hastily withdrew her hand and slowly turned over, intending to get out of bed.

"Chloe, good morning."

At that moment, the man’s low, weary voice rang out. It was his first time speaking that morning, so his voice had a slight gravelly texture.

Chloe’s body tensed. She then reached out and tapped his shoulder in greeting.

But he caught her hand.

He grabbed her hand and placed it directly on his cheek. "You wanted to touch me just now, didn’t you? Why stop? You can touch me freely. Anywhere you like."

Chloe froze, a blush creeping onto her fair face.

’Shameless!’

’Since when did I want to touch him?!’

She snatched her hand back, threw off the covers, and climbed out of bed.

Walker listened intently to her movements. He could tell from the way she got out of bed that she was flustered and annoyed.

He could almost instantly picture the expression on her face.

Even though he couldn’t see, he could still imagine it, because her image was deeply seared into his mind.

A faint smile touched his lips. "Chloe, I slept very well last night. How about you?"

Chloe stopped in her tracks, then grabbed her phone from the side and typed, "I slept very well, too."

"My eyes don’t hurt as much, either," Walker added. "I really do feel much better when you’re here with me."

The room fell silent for a long moment before an emotionless, mechanical female voice spoke up. "That’s because the doctor gave you potent painkillers."

’He’s feeling better just because I’m with him?’

’Am I some kind of miracle cure?’

’He’s being completely absurd!’

She furiously typed again, "I’m going to go wash up."

Then, the sound of her footsteps faded into the distance.

Walker slowly sat up. His eyes still stung a little, but it was a great improvement from yesterday.

He raised a hand to his forehead. He had indeed slept well last night, even though he would wake up from time to time, reaching out to feel if she was still beside him.

She had slept by his side the entire night, and it put him at ease.

He was also starting to believe that she hadn’t been lying.

That she would indeed stay by his side until his vision returned.

"..."

The doctor changed Walker Grant’s dressing, asked a few questions, and then left the room.

Dylan Finch brought breakfast. Chloe Reed got up, set up the small overbed table, and sat down across from Walker Grant. Almost out of habit, she began to feed him the porridge.

Feeling the warm, fragrant porridge at his lips, Walker Grant stiffened slightly. "I can do it myself," he said.

But the warmth of the spoon at his lips didn’t disappear.

Walker Grant sighed softly. "You can’t keep feeding me forever. What will I do when you eventually leave?"
