Chapter 646: By What Right Does She Stand?

Dylan Finch instantly understood her meaning, and a cold expression crossed his face.

"This poison might be impossible to replicate, but it’s still very easy to blind someone."

Chloe Reed typed again, and the cold, mechanical female voice spoke. "And her legs. Noah will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. What right does she have to still be standing?"

"Yes, I understand."

Dylan Finch nodded, agreeing that making Sunny Reed’s life a living hell was the best approach.

"..."

Chloe Reed arrived outside Walker Grant’s hospital room. When the bodyguard saw her, he froze for a second, instinctively about to speak.

Chloe Reed quickly raised a finger to her lips, stopping him.

The bodyguard froze, blinking in confusion.

’Should I listen to Mr. Grant, or the missus?’

’Hmm...’

’Ah, screw it. I’ll just pretend I didn’t see anything.’

The bodyguard turned his head and looked in another direction.

Chloe Reed walked over and pushed open the door to the room.

Heavy, pained gasps came from within. The man on the bed was in so much agony that he didn’t even hear the door open.

Not until someone stood before his bed, a hand reaching out to caress his face.

A cool touch. A familiar scent, one that was uniquely hers.

Walker Grant’s whole body jolted!

His voice was raspy. "Chloe, why are you here?"

Chloe Reed didn’t answer. Instead, she gently touched his face, her fingertips landing softly on his temples and beginning to massage them in slow circles.

Walker Grant immediately grabbed her hand. "You know?" he asked, his voice hoarse.

Chloe Reed’s fingertips stirred, tapping on his palm.

Walker Grant sighed in resignation. "So, does your heart ache for me?" he asked.

Lying on the bed with his face wrapped in gauze, he turned his pale face to her and asked the question weakly.

Seeing him so vulnerable, Chloe Reed felt a complicated knot tighten in her chest.

She traced words into his palm with her finger.

What can I do to make you feel better?

Walker Grant let out a soft chuckle. "Kiss me. Maybe then I’ll feel a little better."

Even at a time like this, he couldn’t help but be greedy. Given Chloe Reed’s personality, she should have coldly snatched her hand away and left.

But a moment later, a soft kiss landed on the corner of his mouth.

Walker Grant was stunned. His Adam’s apple bobbed. "Chloe?"

Her cool fingertips traced on his palm again.

Do you really feel better?

Walker Grant decided to push his luck.

His lips parted. "Come up here and let me hold you. I’ll feel even better."

A moment later, Chloe Reed nudged him, prompting him to shift over and make room for her.

Then, her soft, warm body was beside him, lying down at his side.

Walker Grant shamelessly wrapped his arms around her. "Chloe, you really do have a soft spot for me."

Chloe Reed started to write on his palm again, but he caught her hand. "Just like this is perfect."

Chloe Reed gazed at his pale face, the whole situation feeling absurd. She knew he was pushing his luck, yet she couldn’t bear to see him in pain.

Chloe Reed’s heart ached. They had left things on such a terrible note, and she was always so prickly toward him.

So why would he still protect her like this?

That complicated feeling churned in her chest again. She decided to stop overthinking it, closed her eyes, and just lay there by his side.

The smell of antiseptic filled her nose. It wasn’t pleasant.

But for some reason, she started to feel a sense of peace. The exhaustion began to pull at her, and her eyelids grew heavy.

Soon, the sound of even breathing filled the air. Listening to her steady breaths, Walker Grant’s lips curved into a small smile. He gently brushed his lips against her temple, then didn’t dare to move again.
