Chapter 666: I’ve Made Up My Mind

A ragged breath cut through the silence.

Nathaniel Monroe rubbed his nose. He realized they’d already figured it out, and bringing it up again was just twisting the knife in Fiona Linton’s wound.

"Um..."

’You don’t have to go on,’ Nathaniel wanted to say.

"It’s fine."

Fiona Linton’s voice was a bit hoarse as she continued, "Jasper Holloway learned that my mother could make poisons and wanted her to work for him. She had long grown tired of that life, so she refused. In response, Jasper sent men to bomb our workplace. My parents... they were right at the center of the explosion..."

Buildings had collapsed, leaving nothing but ruins—a desolate, apocalyptic scene thick with suffocating despair.

She had searched desperately for her parents, only to find her mother shielded beneath her father’s body, already breathing her last.

Her mother’s last words to her were, "My baby, go back to Nancastle. We bought a house there. Live the rest of your life there, and live it well. Your safety and happiness are our greatest wish..."

Without another word, her mother’s hand went limp in hers.

Fiona Linton was utterly devastated.

As she finished speaking, tears streamed down her face. She stubbornly wiped them away, biting her lip to regain her composure.

"I’m sorry."

Nathaniel Monroe knew he had struck her deepest sorrow and apologized guiltily.

Fiona Linton took a few deep breaths before speaking. "It’s fine. We don’t really know each other. I just told you all this so you would trust me. I won’t hurt you."

She wiped away her tears and managed a smile. "For years, I felt like a walking corpse. Then Auntie King suggested I continue treating people, so I opened my clinic. When I’m helping patients, I feel like I’m alive again. But whenever I’m alone, I can’t stop replaying that day in my mind."

There is perhaps nothing in this world more agonizing than witnessing the people you love most die right in front of you.

She was plagued by nightmares. She could never forget the past. The hatred was like a vine that had taken root in her heart, slowly growing into a towering tree.

But when she heard Chloe Reed’s story and understood what she needed, that towering tree finally blossomed.

She would have her revenge!

Nathaniel Monroe cleared his throat. "Ahem... Yes, we can trust you now. If you want revenge, you can’t stay here. Once my sister-in-law and Walker are cured of the poison, they will definitely be going after Vera Holloway for revenge. Do you want to join them then?"

"Yes!"

Fiona Linton’s tone was exceptionally firm, her eyes filled with deep hatred and resolve. "I will kill Jasper Holloway with my own two hands to avenge my parents!"

Chloe Reed’s heart ached as she listened to the story. She reached out and took Fiona Linton’s hand.

Fiona Linton was startled for a moment, then smiled. "We’ve already agreed to work together, so let’s not worry about anything else. I’ve made up my mind. I’ll go with you."

"Really?!"

Nathaniel Monroe was pleasantly surprised!

’He thought he would have to wait a few more days!’

Fiona Linton nodded. "Yes. The only way to know if I can succeed is to try. If I fail, then I’ll get to see my parents in the afterlife. But if I succeed, I’ll have avenged them, and I won’t have to live in this constant agony anymore."
