"No! You can’t! You can’t do this to me! I gave birth to Julian’s child—I’m a hero for it! If you treat me like this, Julian will never forgive you!"

Sunny Reed shrieked hysterically, trying to climb out of bed and grab Judith Pierce. But she had no strength in the lower half of her body; she couldn’t move an inch.

All she could do was howl helplessly, trying to make Judith Pierce change her mind.

But when she saw that Judith Pierce wouldn’t change her mind, she started screaming curses until she was hoarse. "Bitch! It’s all that bitch Chloe Reed’s fault! She should have died a long time ago! Why isn’t she dead yet! If it weren’t for her, I never would have been kicked out! If it weren’t for her, Walker would have treated me better and better! If it weren’t for her, how could I have ended up like this?!"

"It’s all because of her! The more you all care about her, the more I hate her! If you want to blame someone, blame her! It’s because I hate her that I poisoned Noah! It’s because I hate her that I threatened Walker! It’s all because of her, it’s all her fault..."

Judith Pierce couldn’t be bothered to stay and listen to Sunny Reed’s mad ramblings.

Once outside the bungalow, the breeze dispersed the stench of blood and decay. She tilted her head back slightly, took a deep breath, and then said, "Don’t let her die, but don’t let her live well, either."

Daniel Hayes nodded. "Don’t worry. After all the evil she’s done, a fate worse than death is the best ending for her."

The car started, and Judith Pierce departed.

Daniel Hayes arranged for his men to take Sunny Reed directly back to Breyburn and lock her up in a private psychiatric hospital.

...

「The hospital.」

The initial tension in the air quickly vanished.

Chloe Reed lowered her eyes and typed. A cold, electronic female voice filled the air. "We’ll be going back soon. Don’t you have a plan for getting Grandma home?"

Walker Grant nodded. "I’m already making the arrangements. If all goes to plan, Grandma will leave tomorrow."

Chloe Reed typed her question: "Where is she going?"

Walker Grant said, "Grandma said she wants to go home for a visit. I’m having someone escort her. She might stay there for a while, which will give us more time to recover."

Chloe Reed gave a small nod, sighing in relief.

’As long as it’s all been arranged, then everything is fine.’

That evening, Judith Pierce returned. She had brought Walker Grant’s favorite dishes, but the atmosphere in the hospital room grew tense.

Her tone betrayed nothing unusual. "Walker, try this chicken soup. It’s very nourishing."

Walker Grant took it. "Thank you."

Judith Pierce smiled. "Why be so formal with your mother? By the way, where’s Xiaoyu?"

Walker Grant said, "She said she found a great little eatery and went to try it out. Said she’d miss her chance if she didn’t go right away."

Judith Pierce smiled and nodded. "Xiaoyu is such a lively, cheerful girl, always laughing and having fun. Her parents raised her very well."

Walker Grant fell silent.

But Judith Pierce continued, "Now that you’ve spent some time with her, what do you think of Xiaoyu?"

"Mom."

Walker Grant’s voice grew heavy. "What are you trying to say?"

Judith Pierce’s expression faltered for a second, but then, ignoring Chloe Reed’s presence completely, she said bluntly, "I think Xiaoyu is a wonderful girl. She even knows medicine, and she has such a lively, lovable personality. You two..."

CLACK!

Walker Grant set down his chopsticks, the sound neither soft nor sharp, but deliberate.

"I’ve said it before. I’m not getting a divorce."

His voice grew heavy, and his lips curved into a sarcastic smile. "Besides, she’s a perfectly nice girl. Why would she want to be with a blind divorcé like me?"
