Chapter 409 - 407: The Ancient Mirror Connected to 15,000 Years Ago
The other side seemed to fall silent for a moment.
Celeste Grant frowned slightly.
"Say something. Why aren’t you talking?"
Another line of text appeared in the mirror in her hand.
"Who are you? Why do you have my Mysterious Ancient Mirror."
She looked down at the Ancient Mirror in her hand, her eyes boring into the words so intensely it was as if she could burn a hole through them. She then said aloud, "Isn’t it obvious? You gave this to me. You said this mirror is called the Mysterious Ancient Mirror. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten you’re the one who put it by my pillow today. This is the first time I’ve ever held this Ancient Mirror, and I saw you as soon as I picked it up."
The Ancient Mirror remained silent, offering no response. She glanced at it. "What’s wrong with you?"
"What is a ’wife’?"
Celeste Grant said, "’Wife’ means... well, it means I’m your wife, and you’re my husband."
After she finished speaking, there was a moment of silence before a voice came from the other side.
"I have not taken an Empress. From where do I have a wife?"
The voice was deep and cold, as if stating a simple fact.
Celeste Grant felt her heart ache.
"Are you kidding me... Find me a noodle, I’ll go hang myself for you right now. Or find me a block of tofu, I’ll just go smash my head on it and die. You! Last night you were holding me, kissing me, calling me ’my lady’, ’Celeste’... and now you’ve pulled up your pants and you’re pretending it never happened. Are you doing this just to piss me off?"
She truly felt awful. The words Javier Sinclair had said before he left still seemed to echo in her ears.
Celeste Grant lowered her head.
To think that just last night they had slept in each other’s arms, and now, in the blink of an eye, he was speaking to her in the tone of a complete stranger. Anyone would be upset.
The other side was quiet, not a word spoken. Celeste Grant hugged her legs. "Ugh, I give up. Archfiend, why aren’t you talking? Say something! This silence is terrifying. Didn’t you go back to the Demonic Domain? How are things over there?"
The Ancient Mirror was connected to fifteen thousand years in the past.
「The Demon Realm.」
「The Ninefold Abyss.」
This was a Forbidden Land in the Demon Realm, the residence of the realm’s old ancestor.
At this moment, not far from an ancient tree, a man in black robes was seated on a chair woven from the tree’s vines—a natural formation from its extending branches. Perhaps because he often came here to sit, the sentient ancient tree had formed this chair for him.
Floating in the air before him was the very same Mysterious Ancient Mirror that Celeste Grant was holding. He raised a hand to rest on a nearby vine, tilting his head up slightly to gaze into the mirror.
In the mirror appeared a young woman with her hair down, sitting on a bed and hugging her knees. From time to time, she would look his way through the Ancient Mirror, though from her side, she could not see him.
The woman’s expression had been constantly changing, from when she first started calling out and talking to him, to the look of confusion and sadness that now graced her face.
A moment ago, she had indignantly declared she would find a noodle and hang herself for him to see. A flicker of curiosity passed through his eyes. ’Where did this woman come from?’
’She really seems to know me?’ Javier Sinclair was certain that this woman did not exist in any of his past memories.
Javier Sinclair stretched out his hand.
The Ancient Mirror floating in the air descended into his palm.
The Mysterious Ancient Mirror in his hand was his life-bound Magic Treasure, the only one of its kind between heaven and earth. If he did not wish it, no one in this world could possibly take his belongings.
The Mysterious Ancient Mirror was currently in his own hand, yet the woman on the other side of the Ancient Mirror also held his Magic Treasure. There was only one possibility: he and she existed in different times. For the Mysterious Ancient Mirror to appear in her hands, it must mean that woman was in the future.
"Heh... Now this is getting a little interesting."
The moment he spoke.
The woman in the mirror looked up, her gaze directed his way.
"What are you muttering about over there? You still haven’t told me what’s going on on your end. How could you go back to the Demonic Domain for one trip and suddenly not know me anymore? You bastard! Last night, you were holding me, nipping and biting me..."
Before she could finish.
Javier Sinclair’s hand, holding the Ancient Mirror, faltered, and he almost dropped it.
’Does this woman have any idea what she’s saying? What does she mean, I was holding her, nipping and biting her? I’m not a dog. How could I possibly do something like that?’ Though he denied it in his heart, his ears couldn’t help but turn red.
A flash of embarrassment appeared in his eyes.
"I did not."
He spoke subconsciously, his tone grave.
He really hadn’t.
But as soon as the words left his mouth...
...the woman in the Ancient Mirror, still hugging her knees, reached out and pulled down the collar of her clothes, pointing to her neck, shoulder, and chest. "Don’t deny it. Look at these. If it wasn’t you, then who was it?"
Even if he knew nothing of love and passion, he recognized those as marks left behind from overly intense dual cultivation.
He froze for a second, and his face instantly turned red.
’What is this woman spouting nonsense about?’
He silently averted his gaze.
But his fingers, holding the Ancient Mirror, tightened subconsciously.
Thinking of her improper behavior just now, he lightly raised his hand and flicked a finger.
In the Ancient Mirror, the part of Celeste Grant’s clothing that had been pulled down was pulled back up by an invisible force. Perhaps not expecting such a maneuver, Celeste Grant stared blankly, looking down at her clothes.
She looked up at him and asked.
"That was you just now, wasn’t it?"
"I know it was you."
He didn’t answer.
But as his gaze swept over her slightly astonished face, he found himself thinking she was rather cute and felt an urge to pat her head. The sudden thought made Javier Sinclair sit up straight.
Javier Sinclair frowned, not quite understanding why he would have such a strange thought. He was the Demon God. Logically, the woman in the Ancient Mirror should be no different to him than any other person, or even the grass and trees of the world. So why had his breath seemed to catch for a moment?
’Could it be... that I really have some kind of connection to this woman? Or rather, will have one in the future?’
At this thought, he frowned.
"Javier Sinclair."
"Your... Your tone is so cold."
"I’m a little scared."
"Husband."
That single word, "husband," made Javier Sinclair’s heart jolt inexplicably, and a crack appeared in his composure.
’She called me husband.’ A flicker of panic bloomed in his heart.
Yet his tone became even colder.
"Insolent."
Hearing this, Celeste Grant looked up, her eyes red-rimmed. "Insolent, my ass! I’m your wife, you know? Be careful, or I’ll get really mad and ignore you from now on."
She gritted her teeth.
"Once is one thing, but you’re doing it again."
"Other people find a husband, and it’s nothing like this disaster-filled mess I’m in. If this keeps up, we’ll have acted out all the melodrama you’d ever need for a Xianxia drama."
Javier Sinclair raised an eyebrow slightly.
’He had no idea what this woman was saying. How very strange.’
He didn’t speak, but simply raised his hand and brushed it lightly over the Ancient Mirror. At that moment, a line of text floated out from within the mirror.
"Fifteen thousand years later."
Seeing this line of text, Javier Sinclair’s hand holding the Ancient Mirror tightened subconsciously. Although he had already guessed that this woman was in a different time from him, he never imagined the gap would be so vast.
